Sort of answering my own question here >>62110408, as I found out you can get mpv to discover external audio files with:

audio-file-auto=fuzzy

Unfortunately this also makes mpv default to the external audio file over the internal. Oh well. At least I can load the commentary tracks now.

>>62110343
No really, even Bicubic can look similar if not the same as Lanczos while using far less resources.
High quality upscaling algorithms are more optimal used for doubling low resolution content like DVD to 1080p or 1080p to 4K etc.
You're better off using other enhancements, I personally think thin edges and sharpen edges looks great with anime.
If you have the hardware and don't mind burning your GPU then go ahead and use whatever you want.

Guys I have a question:

I play around with nnedi3 and ravu r3 atm and I noticed that it obviously impacts the frame timings.

My peak frame time is now red, but the average isn't even yellow. Is that an actual problem? Or is MPV rendering ahead and as long as the average is fine- everything is fine?

That's fully at the mercy of your OpenGL implementation and platform. mpv has little say in the matter - unless you're using angle, in which case you can use --angle-max-frame-latency to increase the buffering. (With vulkan, you can use --vulkan-swapchain-depth)
>>
>>62114558
>amdgpu
Much better than on windows (with mesa). Stay away from AMDGPU-POO. mesa+amdgpu is basically as good as the closed source nvidia opengl drivers.

mpv also runs much better on AMD GPUs than on nvidia GPUs, pretty much always has*. If there's ever been a time to buy AMD, it's now. Since the whole amdgpu shit and AMD basically open sourcing their drivers into the linux kernel, the drivers are now actually good and usable. I plan on buying an AMD GPU for my next upgrade as well (possibly vega 56).

* with the exception of a few bugs that were in mpv for a version or two, but those are all fixed in master.

It shouldn't matter because your profile should override it.

For example if you want SD video only to have debanding on you need to set it off for HD or when you go from an SD video in your playlist to an HD video debanding won't turn off.
e.g.
[SD]
profile-desc=cond:get('height',0) <= 720
deband=yes

[HD]
profile-desc=cond:get('height',0) > 720
deband=no

Then if you play an HD video mpv will run the SD profile because it detects the window as 0 pixels, then when the video loads it will detect it as HD and your HD profile will override it.
>>
>>62124209
your [SD] looks like it detects 720p content which is [HD]
>>
>>62124209
Height is always unavailable when that first gets evaluated. Since it will the fall back to 0, [SD] will always be applied because 0 <= 720 is true
>>

It's just an example.

Windows v10 x64, using git build of mpv.

I think this might be a bug because I thought it was weird none of these looked different but when I set `--dscale=nearest` on command line it works but when I set `dscale=nearest` in mpv.conf it does nothing.

And now I feel dumb because I had dscale set before profile=opengl-hq and that seems to overwrite it.

Either way I consider it fixed, although nearest really fucks up the text unfortunately!

When playing video streams, the data is saved into cache, which is the same as RAM.
Right? unless if cache folder have been specified.
Is it possible to access the cached data? to do specific operation?

>Is mpv catmull_rom implementation the same as in madvr?
I can't answer that question because I have no access to the madVR source code. But you can see the mpv implementation here:
https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/blob/master/video/out/filter_kernels.c#L382

It's basically just an alias for `bcspline` with B = 0.0, C = 0.5; which is taken from http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/filter/#cubics

As for why the mpv default is mitchell; that one has the least amount of visible aliasing when downscaling the rings_lg test clip. (And fuck aliasing when downscaling) Also, mitchell/netravali's parameters were chosen via lots of cross-testing using image processing experts as well as memebers of the general public. So I put more faith in their results than some literal who's on doom9.
