"Yummy and warm sounding, the 3-way balanced armature driver SE535 has great bass extension and brilliantly integrated bass and mids, with a slightly polite, but very articulate and clear treble. The ergonomics and comfort of these IEMs is excellent, and they come with a nice selection of tips."

THD measurements are not a reliable indicator of audibility:
http://gedlee.azurewebsites.net/Papers/Distortion_AES_I.pdf
http://gedlee.azurewebsites.net/Papers/Distortion_AES_II.pdf
> In our next paper we will show that .01% THD of one type of nonlinear system can be perceived as unacceptable while 10% THD in another example is perceived as inaudible. Even one of these simple examples is sufficient to invalidate THD as a viable metric for discussion of the perception of distortion. Furthermore, 1% THD is not at all the same as 1% IM, but we will show that neither correlates with subjective perception.
>These results supported the skepticism that THD and IMD metrics were poor predictor of subjective perception of sound quality ratings.
Furthermore:
http://asa.scitation.org/doi/full/10.1121/1.4984044
>Research has suggested that non-linear properties of headphone responses have little effect
Furthermore:
https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/e38e/b5526af06589596390cd585e6aa38c19344c.pdf
From this presentation given at the AES 129th convention:
>Conventional distortion measurements such as THD do not show reliable correlation to the ear’s perception

After a bit of a delay I finally received my stack (2u) yesterday. Paired with my also-new HD600-memecans, I'm honestly quite impressed. Didn't expect to hear that much more detail compared to my old HD558.

Comfort is quite good, I like the feeling of the earpads. The clamp is noticable but otherwise very much ok.

Hey! I was totally worrying whether some shit happened to you since I kinda expected you to post the next day with your new setup :)
>jpopsuki invite
Thank you very much for that. It has however thrown me deeper into idol hell. Right now listening to some keyakizaka46 on my setup. And little by little I'm liking them more. Ouch.
>Im honestly quite impressed. Didn't expect to hear that much more detail compared to my old HD558.
Me neither against my HD598 which should be almost the same as the HD558. Actually, for a good 15 seconds or so the HD600 just sounded "odd". Then I was like wow and have been awesome ever since.
I try the HD598 from time to time for nostalgia reasons, but they sound so bad now -_-
>The clamp is noticable but otherwise very much ok.
The clamp will be gone in days. After a month or so it'll be looser than an idolm@ster's *** after sleeping with so many producers.

You went with a nonstandard cable from the get-go? While it's true HD600 standard cable isn't well loved (and I hate how it's 2 wires together instead of shielded within an outer layer), it performs just fine. I'll replace it... once it breaks. If it ever does.

tkldr: Top IEMs under $500 to research?
Hello, I'm looking for a new IEM. I have an open back over ear headphone that I'm happy with but this IEM will be the most expensive headphone I've ever bought and I would like it to also be my best. I plan to use it during my commute, during the day on the go, and at my desk. Removable cable is a must in order to extend life.
I'm not looking for a specific rec, what I am looking for is a list of models to look into at $500 and under. There are soooo many IEMs and I know there are probably $199 models that beat some $450 models.
These will be for music listening and that's it.

Her name is kazuki... she's a spoiler character, so don't look her up.
The backstory kazuki has does make up most of amane's (another girl's...) route in grisaia no kajitsu. While the overall of the game is not awesome imho (people love it for some reason, however), amane route (specifically the "angelic howl" arc within that route) is absolutely worth it.
And she sounds so good on HD600 ^_^

>>62089882
The dude is asking about $88 headphones man. Those are both great models but if he is gaming, which that specific models suggests he is, I'm sure there are better options than the sennheisers. The HD 5 series is a good choice for music(wish I had a pair to try out) but those ATHs are usually used by competitive people who want the advantage of very good positional accuracy. Hearing and placing foot steps is very important.
My motherboard's audio has this thing that puts an arrow on the screen and just points to the footsteps so I don't even need audio but I don't take FPS that seriously.
That model he's asking about is famous for it's ability to place foot steps while having better than walmart tier audio.
>>
>>62089926
I wonder if that thing is really worth it? It looks insane but the fx audio dac x6 can drive just about everything. It's got a ton of power. Is it possible that those better models really deliver superior sound?
It seems like it's something that would last you decades, I'd be open to buying one.

Dude these are gorgeous. Can you describe the sound?
I'm really interested.
It's between them, the ie800, and the shure se535. I have decided against going with ety because of some in-depth reviews I have read. I do not believe they are well suited for me but I do give a nod to their incredible accuracy.
>>
>>62090214
I'm a dt990 owner and I can tell you that after eq I am consistently blown away by them. I love the fit and comfort and I believe the driver is rather good. They respond to EQ extremely well but I had to upgrade my amp to be able to do it. I am, no shit, listening to twice as much music now that I have settled on an EQ that I like. Given just how cheap the dt990 is I think I'd be comfortable suggesting them to someone who is comfortable with equalization.
For the longest time I regretted them and wished that I had bought the dt880 or a sennheiser but I no longer feel that way.
I never noticed the treble before but I do now and I believe that eq is mandatory for these.

I'm sure that EQing that terrible, terrible peak down does help, but I would still suggest HD600 once you get the chance, just to get a taste of headphones that sound good without the need for EQ.
>>
>>62090245
Balanced and clear. Bass is tight and clean, mids and highs are about as good as it gets in an iem. What impressed me the most about them is the image. It's one of the few IEMs I've listened to that can produce a stereo image with plenty of space between instruments and musicians.

If you're getting them, consider using comply ear tips with them as it makes for a tighter seal and the comfort is better. Best replacement cable is the westone epic.
>>
>>62090281
That could be just burn in, rather than finding an eq you like
>>
>>62090376
I've had them for years, for some reason the stock sound was better to me when I was younger but as I reached my mid 20s I started to dislike them and want something to replace them. I'm still going to be buying a new headphone and source soon(not mid-fi, I have a job now) but they legitimately sound good. I don't know if burn in is a meme or not but I think it has more to do with you getting used to the sound more than anything.
>>
>>62090433
Since you have an EQ now, just buy another beyer like the DT1990 and use the same EQ.

>Better than the HD
Definitely not against the HD600 in the graph :P
Competitive with HD5xx. More bassy, and more messy treble vs HD579.
Why can't beyer make headphones without fucking the treble up is beyond me.
>>
>>62092278
>The only good treble is rolled off!

Stop this meme. The hd600s are veiled
>>

>pro
Careful with pro vs premium and all that shit @ DT880.
Also, pro are known to be skull-drilling, whereas premium are supposedly comfy.
>>
>>62092306
I still find them to be the most comfortable tips ive used and the best upgrade for iems.

There are different versions of the DT 880, and i'm talking about the HD 579. Please show me how, because i'm definitely not seeing it here
>>
>>62092344
Fucked up my cropping. Sorry
>>
>>62092344
The bass part should be clear enough. Now, also include HD600 and compare the treble of both against it.
>>
>>62092354
So, less neutral with less messy treble?
>>
>>62092344
That site doesn't publish their compensation curve so it's not really useful except to compare between models. It's better to compare the 579 to the 598, note the difference, and then look at the 598 on a better site.

1More Triple Driver

Basically I want headphones to use at home with my Laptop. When I'm out and about in ears are much easier to carry. I just can't wear them for that long because it gets uncomfortable.

I'm seeing the Sony MDR-V55 for 46.99€ on Amazon right now. Is that something I should consider getting?
>>
>>62092429
HM5 or CB-1. V55 are on-ears, so not comfy. Good sonys are the MDR7506 but it leans towards brightness.
>>
>>62092429
CB-1
>>
>>62092429
>flatmate
Same room? if so, closed.
>closed
HD569, HD380 Pro, HD280 Pro, Status CB-1, Sony MDR-7506.
>open (not same room)
HD598se, HD558, SHP9500S.
>>
>>62092322
>Careful with pro vs premium
If pros are cheaper. Couldn't you just bend their headbands instead of complaining. Simple.
>>
>>62092487
Had the pro. Bending the headband was very easy, took half a minute. It's all steel so no worries.
>>
>>62092485
awesome! Now I have a bigger list I can investigate. To be honest when it comes to headphones I have no idea.

My flatmate has his own room, I just don't really like to be disturbed

The Status Audio CB-1 seem to be popular
>>
>>62092555
Unless your environment is VERY noisy, I'd suggest open.
They sound better vs price, and tend to also be more comfortable.

An invite was sent somewhere, also a reply to something was sent somewhere else.
>>
>>62092933
oh shit I just saw that the OB-1 are on Amazon for 43.77€

The CB-1 are 79€

The house I live in is very quiet for the most part. I'm concerned if my flatmate will be able to hear what I'm listening to?

I'm definitely leaning towards the OB-1 now since the price tag is much lower.
>>
Can cleaning headphones with compressed air damage the driver?
>>
>>62093226
>OB-1
Crap. CB-1 is good, OB-1 is unremarkable. At trash budget, look at SHP9500S and HD558 instead.
>>
>>62093237
But both of those cost more than the CB-1 even...
>>
>>62093251
But they're good / price. The OB-1 isn't.

>>62093200

>>

Your flatmate won't hear shit unless he's in the same room AND you're listening to unhealthy volumes.
>>
>>62093255
yeah but they're not in the budget I allocated

I'd go for the CB-1 then
>>
>>62093226
The CB-1 on the Status Audio site can be gotten cheaper with the code 'status20' at checkout.
>>
>>62093281
but they don't ship to Germany
>>
>>62093270
That's the correct choice if your budget is that constrained. It'll probably sound awesome vs entrypoint garbage you used to have.
If you ever feel like upgrading, make your budget something decent, at least $150, and look at open. Do not even bother unless you can put together that much of a budget, because it'd be a sidegrade. And FFS, do not even think about amps and dacs when this poorfag. If you're ever in the market for a motherboard, just ensure you get one that has a sound chip that does include a headphone amp. If in doubt, check the datasheet for the sound chip your motherboard maker lists.

Did you actually ABX? (double-blind)
Also, did you make the MQA file from the FLAC yourself? (hint: you didn't)
If it's a different master, it's of course going to sound different. MQA has nothing to do with it.
It's just a scam to get you to buy the same music again, and MQA-certified hardware that offers absolutely nothing in terms of measurable improvement.
>>
>>62093689
pic that shows headphones + timestamp.
No timestamp = obvious bullshit.
>>
>>62093705
I bought the same album twice(MQA and Flac) from the same store just to do the comparison.
And the MQA album sounds better by a long shot with reduced file size.

They are somewhat chill about it but they still have HD6xx as a holy grail with only things coming close to displace it are focal elear. Also why the fuck Marv got banned? This guy puts out almost half if not more measures and I thought he was a demi good founder tier to begin with.
