I can see it if someone's a developer maybe or if someone wants to see if they can make a 'one-system' type of thing but for a user it's like the metric vs. english arguments. With vm's the OS is just a wrapper around the application you want to use. With older versions of windows you get high stability at modern cpu/memory/storage speeds which leaves linux for the web and things it's stronger at. Windows has the applications though.

With a standard linux wm/de themes are easily replaceable.
In Windows, you have three options:
Deal with the standard crap
Use third party software to forcibly change the style of your OS, many times replacing items in major system DLLs
