What is the actually quality of Alienware computers? What do some people have beef with them?
a huge meme, definition of overpriced and paying for the name
build a pc yourself its like legos
4x the cost for limited selection and gawdy exteriors. Just build your own and save yourself money and dignity.

Get one OP, keep that aesthetic alive. I dream of Alienware and CPanel style aesthetics coming back personally.

Well I'm in the market for a used laptop that can play the kind of games I like (S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Metro 2033, lots of early 2000's games, etc.)
I'm not into any of the flashy graphical games that are out today, anyway, most of the listings I see on Ebay for used medium-power gaming laptops are Alienwares that people are selling.
The cheapest hardware thrown into barely meme worthy cases, and sold to parents at an exorbitant price. Because their shit-stain of a kid is too retarded to convince them that computers are like legos.

On their desktops, they charge some absurdly high prices for configurations that make no sense to buy, and upgrades like jumping to 16gb of ram costs hundreds of dollars. Worse, these prices MIGHT make sense when the hardware is day 1 old but after 6 months AW doesn't discount the hardware enough to keep pace with how rapidly hardware prices are falling.
I expect much the same with laptops but laptops are a little different, they will cost more. The big failure though is that the quality of the hardware doesn't justify the price premiums. If support was top notch and bundled dell/AW software was excellent, you could make a case to justify some of the expense but it's just not the case.
I like the laptops, they're very upgradable, I replaced the CPU, ram, gpu and hard drive in my 2012 Alienware and it still runs silky smooth.
