The HD 600 are very good headphones. I prefer them over the DT 880. The veil is a meme, the weak subbass is only perceptible in some electronic recordings, real bass instruments doesn't get that low.

I'm so tired of all these shitposters fighting if it is the best or the worst headphones in the world. In every thread posting the same shit, they must be so sad. The HD 600 are great in its price point, and that's all.

Vmoda crossfade 2 wireless any good?
Have m-100s but looking for something a bit more portable.
>>
>>61848527
Lowest note on a 4 string bass guitar in standard tuning is the E1 at 41.20 hz, true. However, it's not at all rare to have the lowest note be B0 at 30.87 hz (standard 5 string) or A0 at 27.50 hz.
Lower is of course possible but it's rarer and starts to sound like shit.
>>
Sup /hpg/ - Any recommendations for wireless headphones or are they all just bad in general? Pretty much just want to move around the house and lie in bed listening to music wireless.

My budget is roughly $200, but can go higher if needed.
>>
>>61848683
I don't think my headphones are shit. I bought them knowing I could return them without any worries if they were worse than the Beyerdynamic DT 880. But I loved them from the start.

>>61848673
Maybe in your country the M1060 and the HE400i are in the same price point than the HD 600. Sadly, where I live the M1060 is not even available, and the HE400i is almost twice the price than the HD 600 (275€ vs 500€).

Probably you are right saying the M1060 and the HE400i are better alternatives, but given this large price difference, I'm pretty sure the HD 600 is still a great choice.

velours won't be as hot as (p)leather. using the beyerdynamic edt 250v on mine, can wear them all day without any comfort issues. they're slightly stiff and won't crush down, though, so you may have to adjust your clamp.

O2 Amp or monoprice desktop amp?

I already have a Modi DAC but my magni amp died and I feel like branching out.

THD measurements are not a reliable indicator of audibility:
http://gedlee.azurewebsites.net/Papers/Distortion_AES_I.pdf
http://gedlee.azurewebsites.net/Papers/Distortion_AES_II.pdf
> In our next paper we will show that .01% THD of one type of nonlinear system can be perceived as unacceptable while 10% THD in another example is perceived as inaudible. Even one of these simple examples is sufficient to invalidate THD as a viable metric for discussion of the perception of distortion. Furthermore, 1% THD is not at all the same as 1% IM, but we will show that neither correlates with subjective perception.
>These results supported the skepticism that THD and IMD metrics were poor predictor of subjective perception of sound quality ratings.

Not him, but I would certainly advise against Monoprice and Hifiman products, both of which possess notoriously poor build quality. Hifiman is also notorious for extremely poor customer service. The purpose of Chinkshit is to provide sub-$100 products to poorfags. Paying more than $100 for Chinkshit is flat out retarded. You get what you pay for, and when you buy expensive Chinkshit you get an expensive paperweight in time.

This is false. Its bass response is actually slightly boosted compared to planar alternatives all the way down to 30 Hz, and fundamentals below 30 Hz are fairly rare in music.
>Recessed treble
This is patently false. Its accurate treble response is similar to an ER-4S which some will find bright.

This is not a drawback. There are no accepted objective parameters for what makes a good or a bad soundstage, only subjective opinions. Many prefer a narrow soundstage.

Guys, I'm extremely sensitive to sounds, and people at work make a lot of noise, especially slamming doors.

Will noise isolating headphones work for loud sounds such as door slamming? I just want to reduce the sudden piercing sound.

I'm at my wits end.

Should I get a bluetooth receiver thing or get a 10 meter 3.5 cable? I've never had bluetooth anything and there is supposedly a huge delay over bluetooth.

Not the HD600 shill or the anti-Monoprice friend, I suggest you can try MrSpeakers AEon first if you don't mind it costs $800 and it's closed back.
Or you can buy Fostex TH-500RP if you still can find one.

I've had a pair of DT770 80 Ohm for quite few years now (thanks to /hpg/ recommendations!) and I literally have nothing to complain about. Is there something I could upgrade to, while staying under 200$? Or do I have to up my budget if I want something better?

There are several problems with HD600, but low bass isn't one of them, except of course if they are poorly sealed.

The three main problems are
>a midbass hump around 120Hz which overshadows low bass and is responsible for a somewhat muddy sound.
>a bump near 4KHz, which overshadows the highs and makes everything sounds too forward yet veiled. This bump isn't displayed on every measurements depending on the coupler used, but it's very real.
>a poor plastic construction that may lead to snapping

Anyone debating about any other HD600 misbehavior is obviously shitposting.

I just got the m1060's a couple weeks ago. The 5k ringing is there and it pissed me off but I put the headphones through white noise, pink noise, and sine wave burn in for 8 hours and the ringing stopped. The only thing I can't stand about these headphones is the god damn connectors. You literally breathe too hard and they disconnect. It's the most infuriating thing i've ever dealt with. The sound is fucking amazing, better than the LCD 2's (which i've owned) but because of the connectors I give a strong 3/5.

>>
>>61854639

>I put the headphones through white noise, pink noise, and sine wave burn in for 8 hours and the ringing stopped.

Pure psychoacoustics placebo. Your ears got used to the sound. That's it. I absolutely guarantee you the ringing is still there and would show up if you measured them. Lots of people report sound changes from "burn in" and literally every single time it's simply a result of your brain getting used to the sound. In any case, your experience with poor quality control is very typical of Monoprice products.
>>
>>61854820
I don't see how my ears could've got used to them when I listened to them for 30 minutes, couldn't stand the ringing, did the burn in and then immediately couldn't hear any ringing anymore.

confirmation bias. planars have been around long enough so that if burn in fixed the ortho wall this method would be well tested known and spread around by now. planar manufacturers would burn in headphones before selling them if burn in fixed the ortho wall. all planars have an ortho wall and burn in does not get rid of it.

The peer-reviewed scientific study cites states that there is no correlation between headphone frequency response and price, and that non-linear headphone properties have little effect. This, in effect, means that one cannot assume that more expensive headphones are better, and that one cannot assume that the headphones best suited to an individual's needs will belong to any price bracket in particular.
>>
>>61855620
Mass delay sent everyone the wrong edge type to what they selected so we all got to keep the mistake then they sent out the correct ones. On my end they sent me the wrong one again but was like oh woops please send that one back while we send you the correct one. Finally got it in and you see both in the pic.

The tight clip and strong texturing make it difficult to slide into and off your pocket and reaching into you pocket while it's there will eat your hand up. So far just processing some cardboard boxes the edge and finish has held up but I haven't don't anything major with it. The serrations are the size and shape I like for wire stripping.

K7xx. I like how the bass sounds and how the high end is clearer and more detailed. That said there are things I like about the 6xx but they aren't related to sound. K7xx is a looser fit and it's like you're swimming in those huge headpads which can make it difficult to get it properly aligned with your ears. Wonky design elements. Hd6xx just. fits. right. with the right amount of clamp love the oval headpads and the size of them. If I could take the k7xx drivers/sound and place them in the hd6xx that would be prime.

The HD 598 looks reallly nice but it's a little pricy ~300. Does anyone have any experience buying them used? The list price is 379.99 then it's reduced to 265.77 but I can also get them second hand off amazon for $150 so that seems like a pretty decent deal. I don't know what second hand implies though, returned or used and then later sent back?

Sennheiser HD 598 SR Open-Back Headphone seem a little bit cheaper at $150 new, what's the difference between normal and SR. The regular Sennheiser HD 598 look really nice though.

Yep, just enough power for me to comfortably use my HD600 with EQ. Obviously depends on your preferred listening level. It's measured to be audibly transparent and that's what I heard.

I should have been more clear. I'm trying to get them(dt990) closer to neutral. I've never had the chance to listen to good speakers or ety/other neutral headphones so I'd like to figure out what it really sounds like.

Is there any point to getting the HD6XX *and* the HE4XX? I want to know what planar magnetics are all about, but I'm not sure if HE4XX is a good representation of them. I don't want the M1060 because of build quality issues, but I don't think I have any choice around and under $500.

Is the bass on either one something that can be reasonably fixed with EQing up?
>>
>>61857826
>Recreating planar bass with dynamic drivers
Yes, and no
>>
>>61857826
No, there's no point getting both, just get the HE4XX.

What exactly do you think needs fixing with EQ?
>>
>>61857826
Somewhat, you definitely aren't going to get planar-tier bass with dynamic drivers, if that's what you're expecting.

Click the settings in the graph and set it to -15dB. You'll get a better picture cause you're not going to be increasing/decreasing more than 10dB anyways.

>What exactly do you think needs fixing with EQ?
i don't have either headphone yet but that treble peak seems excessive.

not sure about the bass since I don't really know what kind of sounds are 10hz - 40hz and if that really needs to be remedied on either headphone

>>61857873
the HD6XX are already coming, and it's a great enough choice for me just on value alone because HD650 is around US$400 in Canada.

The sub is for deep bass output. Organs, bass, drums, etc. Difficult for any small speaker. Deceptively, floorstanding speaker can be much smaller than tjey appear.
Active speakers such as the KH120, 8030C, Event Opals.
Passives such as the Concerta2 M16 and KEF R300.
Some of the other suggestions have a particularly strong directivity, which I find a large con.

The Sinegen part is not optional. You cannot accurately EQ high frequencies to a measurement because of your unique ear canal properties.
>>
>>61857826
>Is the bass on either one something that can be reasonably fixed with EQing up?
Of course.
>>61857896
Incorrect. Properly EQ'd dynamic headphones' bass response will be perceived as identical to planars. See: http://asa.scitation.org/doi/full/10.1121/1.4984044

Most dynamics have audible bass distortion; this can be seen in the THD graphs.
And just pre-emptively, before you bother misinterpreting more studies
>more THD is good
>>
>>61858356
>>61846055

>>
>>61858485
see
>>61852181 which is not arguing that more THD is good. Nice strawman.
In any case, harmonic distortion is particularly difficult to perceive in the bass region.
>>
>>61858517
So THD is bad. End of argument, now stop reposting your shitty misinformation.
>>
>>61858436
Have you, anytime recently, compared planars to magnetics? Or are you just spouting what you hear like that Sennheiser shill who doesn't even own what he's shilling?
>>
>>61858406
>unique ear canal properties.
The pinna, not the ear canal. The canal is a non factor.

>>61858517
There is no harmonic distortion for anything other than a sine wave. The same static non-linearity that produces harmonic overtones modulates new tones when there is more than one frequency.
Masking spectra imposes a high threshold with it anyway for anything other than very simple harmonic content.

>>61858561
Planar is shape.
Magnetic is the drive principle.
Electrostatic diaphragms are planar.
Planars are flat dynamic drivers.
>>
>>61847258
Tell me if the clamp is comfortable.
>>
>>61858613
>The canal is a non factor.
This cannot possibly be true. I would think different ear canal widths would produce resonances at different frequencies. I've done home measurements with rudimentary couplers meant to simulate ear canals and using different widths have definitely produced resonances at different frequencies.
>>
>>61858758
>ear canal widths
I'm sure you meant canal length.
>produced resonances at different frequencies.
-The brain already incorporates the gain of the ear into weighting tonality. The headphone excites the canal resonances, which are direction independent, as any other source outside the ear.
-Pinna shape is much more variable. The extreme near field interaction is unlike other sound field that originate further away, and subject to cavity modes from the geometry of pinna and headphone enclosure.

Best amp for HE400i? I'm using a Magni, is "upgrading" past this not a thing?

If you get enough volume out of your Magni you do not need to upgrade and spending more on an amp will not get you increased sound quality.
