It's called power saving mode and I get almost 9 hours of battery life in a regular day, 6 hours with continuous light usage like Mozilla, 4 hours with heavy usage on a program like blender.
If you aren't poor you can just buy extra batteries and carry a backpack with decent pockets on it instead of a vans backpack. Btw with my jumbo battery I basically rape a Mac in every usage scenario and here's a plus. Found out that macbooks get visibly (but just slightly) damaged from 3 feet and seriously dented from 5 feet fall onto concrete and that Thinkpads have no trouble falling down 3 feet onto various floors and come out unharmed.

OP here, I returned that Thiknpad, it was a nice laptop for my gf, i5, 8GB of RAM and 128GB SSD, but it was too fucked up with stains, there was a few dead pixels (which is a shame, since it was the 1600x900 model), thinkpad red dot didn't light up and the external battery was fucked.

I'm probably getting a T450 I found, too bad it doesn't have backlit keyboard and it's 768p, but it's 256GB SSD. From the photos is looks fine.
