He's probably just poor. In America, the banks seem to charge flat fees but give percentage interest, so if you have little enough money, having it stored in the bank will lose you money compared to keeping it in cash.

Italian guy here.

Today I've found out a friend of mine has a mechanical keyboard, so I went to his place and tried the keyboard out. It was a two and a half years old CM Quick Fire Pro with brown switches.

For a starter I noticed the caps (semi transparent ABS coated and laser ablated) weren't that worn out and the legends were still well defined, although the feel under the fingers was smoother than as I expected.

Switches however felt kinda bad: they felt rough, like there was a grain of sand in them and they didn't run smoothly. When typing fast it wasn't much of a problem, but on slower pushes it was much more noticeable, and it was unpleasant. I don't know, maybe they were actually dirty inside (the keyboard didn't look very clean either). Maybe browns don't have a tactile feedback that is noticeable enough for me: with my current keyboard (I guess it's a regular cheap rubber dome) typing isn't really pleasant, but I actually love how there's an initial very noticeable peak force that you have to overcome after which the key requires a much lower force, and inertia make you push further; having to bottom the key out in order to activate the switch is the unpleasant part, I guess.

I don't know /mkg/: everything I might want to buy, or that I can actually buy without going bankrupt, is sold with a very narrow selection of Cherry MX switches.
>>
>>61822575
thanks for responding
>>
>>61823001
browns suck, that's what theyre supposed to feel like

sounds like you want topre/electro-capacitive domes
rubber dome that resists you pushing it down until it sharply collapses, with midway actuation

I was hoping it was just a meme, or that it was one of those thing you either hate or love. I was honestly hoping to love it because it would have made everything much, MUCH easier (and cheaper).

The only topre keyboard I saw that could interest me is a Leopold FC980C, that costs 240€ ($282) and comes only in ANSI. I was even ready to disregard the italian layout as long as I was getting a ISO-UK one (not ideal, but still ISO, and I can understand the writings on the modifiers).

Are blue, red, or black better?

I wonder if Hasu could do a replacement controller with BT for the Filco Minila, so it can be fully programmable and run off a rechargable battery pack instead of AAs

It's already got a separate controller board like the HHKB and Leopolds he does, plus it uses pins instead of a ribbon cable to make things easier.

I think it has something to do with my mouse, I replaced my old G502 with a new G502 and the finish they're using for the plastic is different, even though it's only 5 Celsius it's like the mouse is sucking the moisture out of my hands; within 5 seconds of having my hands on it the mouse is visibly wet

Not bad at all if you ask me, but obviously if you like pimping your keyboard it'll be overall much harder to find caps for these than for cherry switches.

It's not like there ever was any consensus that that is the best switch anyhow.

well they aren't very good if that's what you're looking for. You're better of buying something cheaper with much much better build quality. WASD keycaps only last a year at most before they start to fade away. Then you're just gonna buy another $50 set anyways.
>>

If you get a Ducky you won't have too since its done automatically. The keycaps will be mismatched tho, but it also has the extra keys like a full size mac keyboard. The ducky keyboard also has a hardware level programming meaning you can also override the default OS mappings with your own custom ones.

To be fair, my cheap rosewill laser etched PBT only shows a little shine on the spacebar after a couple years of regular use, but I'd still recommend PBT over ABS any day because I love the texture. Enjoypbt caps aren't without fault (often warped), but the texture is just silky without being slippery. Other PBT caps often have a slightly gritty texture, which is also great.

I love my unicomp, and typing on it makes my day better, so yeah that sounds like an awesome gift. I'm not a fan of how the company refuses to improve or even fix the glaring flaws in their product, but they'd need to be a lot more expensive before I'd consider a unicomp model M a bad deal.

They're a bad deal if you buy from outside the USA: shipping costs almost as the keyboard itself.

1. It's not cherry mx
2. cherry clicky sounds like crinkling plastic and is absolutely terrible compaired to both my ALPS boards and my Matias

Why do they have a regular Masterkeys with PBT keycaps but the Pro model with RGBs has shitty ABT caps? What were they thinking?
>>
>>61837769
In regards to the noppoo choc mini. I am currently considering the purchase of some blank white PBT caps. As well as a set of green blank PBT caps.

I would use the white for the outer perimeter like show in the that noppoo picture(except it'd be white not grey) then using the green caps for the lettering/number

also my case is black like in pic

Thoughts?
>>
Should I get gateron/enjoypbt blanks if I cant touch type? They are $40 cheaper than the ones with letters on them.
>>
>>61838994
I'm guessing something along the lines of "Only gamer trash idiots who don't care about keycap plastic would want RGB, so fuck em"
>>
>>61838994
it's clear plastic that's been painted black
>>
>>61839059
might be a dumb question but do clear PBT plastics exist?

PBT doesn't have any clear formulations. POM does, and forms well with PBT so you'll sometimes see PBT keycaps with POM windows or lettering.

You're better off just finding a broken model M to use as a donor board to avoid paying like $10 from unicomp (shipping fee included) for just 2 caps.

Hi /mkg/ friends.

As someone who has used some shitty gaming mech keyboards in the past, i'm looking to buy one for my work computer.

So far I have narrowed it down to MX brown or MX Clears as the switch and leaning towards WASD Code or DAS Keyboard.

Would those be good purchases for someone who programs?

Thanks!

Learn to touch type with a visual aid on your screen, either a picture of a layout or a virtual keyboard. Lifting your hands to look at the keys slows you down.

I'm looking for another good 75% keyboard, currently own a noppoo choc mini. Any suggestions? I'm thinking aboutt he Vortex Race 3
but the escape and delete key are questionable for replacement.

Anyone have a Leopold FC660M? Thinking of getting one with cherry mx blacks.

DREVO Excalibur 84

Is another I'm considering.
>>
>>61840934
Just get a Drevo Gamer, Plum 84, or KBD75; I made sure those were ordered from least to most amount of dosh. If you get a KBD75, you really won't regret it.
>>
>>61840934
Since you probably want cheap, here's the best option for you:

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Plum84/818123_32767632458.html

You don't even need to change the keycaps since it'll come with PBT.

what are some places i can buy custom cables?
>>
>>61841213
This guy is pretty good, I've never seen anyone make coils as good as him: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1O8-y3vcuR8QClX1kB-gxhwCaVJ4b8tqBf4mBuyMltoc/viewform?edit_requested=true

Just make sure you never buy Pexon cables, or else you awaken an anon's autism.
>>
>>61841213
I second >>61841291, I have two cables from him and they're really high quality. Also offers ultra-thicc cables that are great.

Newfag to mechanical keyboards here. Why is PBT considered so good?
>>
>>61842072
ABS yellows over time and absorbs oil from your skin, resulting in a shiny oily surface. PBT does not.
