I'm looking to get a set of wireless headphones and am looking for input. I'm not really an audiophile or anything so I have no idea which brands to avoid or anything like that. I'm mainly just looking for something with good sound quality for music, games and watching movies.

>Budget
€150 preferably, up to €225 max.

>Location
Ireland

>Source
My computer, no sound card or external amplifier.

>Type of headphone
Around ear, definitely wireless. Every set of headphones I've ever had has eventually been broken by the wire being pulled too much. I'm retard-tier clumsy so I'd rather this not be a possibility.

His HRTF claim has been thoroughly debunked by:

Because OP is a Sennheiser shill, and there's possibly a second fucktard that spams hd600 recommendations regardless of price point, form factor, and source. And I get vilified because I attempt to give advice within presented parameters to people and I don't like Sennheiser cans and realize they're extremely flawed, but that's against their agenda to make as many people possible buy the same shitty headphones.

/hpg/ is a safe space for sennshills experiencing buyers remorse. It's also here for people who ironically don't own the headphones to shill them because it makes them feel part of some special club.

Either way, it's cancer and I'm the chemo.

not him but it's probably because of channel imbalance from the volume pot. Some limitation with analog control when it's at very low volumes. Nonononono
If your output impedance gets higher than 1/8 of your headphones' impedance, it starts to create audible FR changes because of improper electrical damping. Usually this means adding midbass bloat which is not desirable for most.
>>
>>61808998
I've been eyeing those headphones. I wonder how noticeable the distortion is. Earpads look really comfy.
>>
>>61808952
It's not a meme, hifiman has shit quality control. Read the he-400i impressions thread on head-fi it's full of defects.
>>
>>61809072
I've owned them before for ~1.5 to ~2 years. No problems; of course, I babied them, but had no issues before selling them and buying speakers
>>
>>61809047
can't go too wrong with the SRH1540 at least. That's what I have right now. The Alcantara earpads are fantastic, but it's perforated (great for comfort, not sure about isolation/seal). Might try to switch it up with HM5 leather ones when it gets colder.

can't really comment on what the distortion is supposed to be though. I don't even know how loud 80dB is supposed to be, which is supposedly where the threshold is for audible distortion.

At this price range, it was either the 1540 or the PM3. No replacement earpads available online was the dealbreaker with the PM3 for me.

I would not recommend it if it's too dry in your area or any extreme changes in humidity. I worry enough about my guitar even here in the Great Lakes just because of air conditioning making the air too dry sometimes. Can't imagine what you would have to do in a place like Nevada or something.

also wood will resonate more than plastic
>>
>>61809157
Consider planar magnetics. For any sort of metal, the low distortion sub bass and mid bass is a godsend for downtuned guitars/bass guitar and kick drum.
>>
>>61809256
75% humidity is common here near the water in Washington state. Wasn't aware that was something I really had to worry about
>>
>>61809365
>75% humidity
well it won't crack, in that climate I'd be more worried of your a/c or heater dropping humidity too quickly. I'd look into other closed headphones like the Oppo PM3 first before commiting to the EMU Teak first though.
>>
>>61809365
>>61809541
that said. I dunno how susceptible the emu-teaks actually are to humidity changes. It's more of an issue to thinner pieces of wood on wooden instruments, or like the one on the M1060.

The sound signature from the EMU teak will probably still change slightly depending on humidity though.

Neutral. V-shaped seem to be fine, but I don't have much experience. I have a wide variety in my music taste, and I switch from genre to genre a lot. Mostly has been metal and classic rock recently, but hip-hop and edm are also choices.

>>
>>61810271
I don't. Sound quality is an objective metric but tastes aren't. It's cool if one doesn't like the HD600 but it measures well on traditional DF and Harman target curves, and it has no MAJOR flaws (yes it has flaws like bass roll-off, etc.). Full sized open headphone performance peaks at the HD600's price point and it's under $300 hence why I believe that it's so often shilled in these threads. Not gonna lie, but I really like the HD600 myself but I think that you can get similar performance for a much lower price like HD598 or SHP9500, even if it's not as good as the HD600, a little EQ can fix them up easily to match/surpass it. Going up into the kilobuck area is just audio jewelry. If someone put a gun to my head and said to recommend a single kilobuck headphone, the HD800 would be my choice, the consistency of the headphone on dummy heads is pretty good, and that makes it an ideal candidate for EQing.

Headphones and audio don't really interest me anymore, it has stagnated. I think everyone should just buy a reputable product that will match their tastes and never come back in this thread.

ATH AD700X

IMO it really doesn't matter for positional audio, I've gamed on apple earpods to HD800 and overall it's more dependent on sound design within the game engine itself than the headphones. I'm not losing any competitive edge between the low and high end shit. I actually prefer earbuds for long sessions because it's way more comfy.
>>

I would rather have some good stereo headphones than 7.1 on my ear, let the game engine handle the virtualization of positional audio, as you said.
>>
>>61812820
VE monk+ or apple earpods, they're average but acceptable. I don't have audiophile standards for gayming, they just need to work and be comfy.

>>61812828
I wear glasses so headphones will always clamp against them, otherwise I'd consider over ear headphones most comfy. That's why I use earbuds.
>>
>>61812647
Haha woops didn't see the closed headphone requirement, disregard the AD700x then. I suggest the HD598C or DT770i, whichever is more comfy and closer to $100 in your country.

>pros
sounds "fun" because bass and treble are cranked to 13 not just 11

Open back and nice soundstage, positional audio is amazing (if there's no background noise IRL, if there is then not so much)

You'll probably hear things in songs you never knew existed because of the treble spike

>cons:
Plastic broke in only 5 months, pads were completely trashed and felt disgusting after 3 months

Bass is overpowering for gaming, if you're playing anything with explosions or bass noises it will completely drown out the sound of anything else going on while that is happening.
Also high pitched noises in games will hurt your ears, even menus of game can be annoying to hear

no detachable cable and the included one is a huge, heavy coiled one which is REALLY thick and heavy and it's so heavy you'll be able to actually feel it pulling on one ear cup, depending how you have the cable positioned it can be eased or worsened but if you're extending it it becomes worse

>meh:
Certain types of music sounds good while others sound worse, examples being rock/metal where it's mostly bass, drums, guitar and vocals sounds great. Techno being full of high pitched noises it just becomes a headache and sounds trash. Depends what you listen to I guess, but anything which is high pitched will hurt your ears and won't sound nice.

Because of the huge bass and treble you can never really turn things "loud" because it will just straight up hurt your ears, meaning the mids are hard to "hear" clearly if what you're listening to is already quite bassy, hard to explain unless you actually try them

They're the kind of headphones you'd want to use for very specific situations and if you fit all the boxes they'll be perfect for you, but if not and you just want a versatile pair of headphones you can find way better ones for cheaper

Only if modded, 800S is definitely the superior set of cans out of the box.

Is the Aune T1 still worth it in 2017 or are there better/cheaper alternatives to a USB Dac/Amp tube?
>>
>>61814953
Get a separate DAC and get something like the darkvoice or little dot 2. Tubes are mostly a meme anyways.

Are the AKG K340s worth getting if I ever stumble across a pair for cheap?

Is there an amp/dac like the fiio e10k that disables the pass through to your speakers when you plug headphones into the front 3.5mm port?

Tempted to get into the HiFiMAN x Massdrop HE-4XX drop for my first Magnetic Planar... What do you think /g/?

My HE-350 is my favourite headphone (that I have) so far.
>>
>>61807671
Jesus those headphones look awful.
>>
>>61816743
Nice entry planar magnetics, but like your 350s, they also feel a bit cheap. If you had no issues with your 350s, then i'd say go ahead
>>
>>61816855
>If you had no issues with your 350s
I had to stretch out the headband for a few weeks but it's fairly comfy now. Also had to burn it in, but the HE-4XX are completely different headphones, right?

I had been eyeing out the HE-400i for a while now, but the HE-4XX is like less than half the price for me...

I still have a few weeks to decide to jump into the drop.

My phono preamp died and im going to have to wait a few days to get a new one in. Got me wondering though, if basically all a preamp is doing is slightly amplifying the signal so it plays at appropriate levels when put through an amp/reciever, can I just use a small headphone amp like pic related as a substitute?
>>
>>61816933
>Had to stretch out the headband for a few weeks
That's pretty common for new headphones

The HE-4XX sound very similar to the HE-400i, which in my opinion, aren't even touched by the HE-350s

K712 for highs
K612 for neutral

Not anon, but has a weird fabric around its pads. Comfy, but may be scratchy for people with shorter hair. Some call them sweat magnets, it depends from person to person; absolutely no issue over here in Canada, including summers.

They are replaceable, but includes modding. They're clipped on, not glued.

Thinking about to buy Beyerdynamics DT 880 250Ohm.
Any other alternatives for open ones with bass heavy sound? Max cap 300€ - yes, euro. Hifiman 400i are way beyond the max budget in europe, even tho they cost like $250 in US.

Also, got a problem to separate the signal from my digital output and analogue output. My current amplifier is a Decoderstation 5 from Teufel (yeah, I know..), I need a solution for my headphone regardless since the device doesnt have a such output.

Im now unsure how to solve that misery.. Should I buy a soundcard (for sound split), a DAC, a new amplifier with enough port for everything or ..?
I use a 5.1 system with an integrated amp, 250+Ohm Headphones and a simple microphone. Pc user obviously.

Fidelio x2

DT880 aren't really bass heavy. DT990 are more bassy but also more trebly.
>>
>>61817352
DT880 is not bass heavy. It's somewhat bright. People like the bass because it's more extended than most open dynamics. If you're a bass head it won't be enough for you.

Need something that is very comfortable to last all day long listening to music without my ears killing me.

My budget is $120 at max.

Obviously over ear and closed.. so my colleagues don't hear my shit.
Thanks in advance.
I will get something better around christmas. But for the time being I need something to get me by. The best for $120
