Just got my Modi 2 today. It comes in an ugly box (probably the default one where they store them and then slapped there the sticker with my info) and no fucking cables of any kind, no USB nor RCA, so I had to buy some from Amazon and they will come probably next week since I live in a fucking island.

Well, I think it won't look ugly at all under my O2.

How bad is O2+Modi 2+DT880 Pro?

They are definitely V-shaped, but they sound spacious and "right". The bass boost feels good in a lot of music recordings. I returned them because the isolation was too weak for my needs.
>>
Sometimes I feel sad because I think what if all that "quality" AMP+DAC hype is just a meme?

I bought the O2+ODAC some time ago, and I felt it was an upgrade from my FiiO E10, but I worry if it was just placebo.

Ok so I'm selling my HD650s and leaving DT990s. I can't take it anymore. Both of them are colored as fuck compared to LSR305s which are 10 times better but HD650s were 240 euro when I've bought them. It's like the price of my monitors. The DT990s were 65 euro used (4 times less) and they are no worse than HD650 in terms of sound quality. And I can use them as a headphones for games because of their sound signature and superb comfiness (while HD650s have retarded clamp force).
So I've came here to ask: Are there any normal headphones with NEUTRAL frequency response? I don't want WARM or FUN, i want fucking NORMAL. Better if they will be open and price range not limited but as always less=better.
I have M40x too and they sound a bit more normal than HD650 and DT990 in terms of frequency response.
Maybe I want too much from headphones?
>>
>>61822418
I own both the Beyerdynamic DT 880 and the Sennheiser HD 600. When I upgraded to the O2+ODAC I felt the treble less harsh and more "detailed" than with the FiiO E10.
>>

>>61819498

>>
>>61822567

>>
>>61822546
Fulla 2 + DT 880 250 ohm (had to EQ treble down because it was seriously piercing to me). Now have a comfy af setup.

What's the point of buying the schiit meme dac when one of those $20 DAC dongles does the same job?
>>
>>61822567
Should have got the HD600 instead of the warm HD650.
>>
>>61822567
How can you be so convinced that you are hearing a "neutral" frequency response from your studio monitors? Is your room treated for proper acoustic performance? Because if not, then you are listening a very "colored" response from your speakers.

I don't have any idea of how do the HD 650 sound, but I have heard the ATH-M40X and they have an important boost in the bass frequency and over 9 kHz.

The Sennheisers are notoriously hard to drive and have some crazy as fuck impedence swings across the frequency band. Because of this, certain headphone amps are capable of driving them better than others.

Audiophile dacs are a meme though.
>>
I have to do this because my headphones are too easily driven. If I keep it at 100, then I have the volume pot at such a low level that I'm very close to the threshold of obvious channel imbalance (right side turns on before left side)

I like a warmer sound, but I don't have much experience with different cans and sound profiles. I listen to a lot of electronic music, usually on the ambient side. Oneohtrix Point Never is pretty much my favorite artist right now. Aside from that, dub techno and house music are also great.
>Past headphones
I currently have a pair of grado SR-80i, but they're insanely uncomfortable. However, they sound pretty good for most things, but I would like a little more bass impact.

I've tried modding them with taped L-cush pads, as well as 4-hole punch mod. Also have bass boost enabled on the e10k, but it still isn't enough.

Beyond that, I had a pair of Xiaomi Piston 3's which were pretty nice. I also have two other chinkshit IEMs.

Can't just keep piling on cores/ghz or upping resolution like other technology. Shit's all subjective and stuff so once you get your headphone/speaker that sounds neutral/balanced to your taste where do you go from there? I know I'm not gonna get moar bass or a clearer midrange without fucking up other shit in the spectrum.

I bought into HD800 hype as a long time HD600 owner and the treble spike rapes my ears after 20-30 minutes regardless of what I'm playing. Now they're sitting in a box 99% of the time and my HD600 are still being used for nearly a fucking decade. The only thing I definitely prefer on the HD800 is the soundstage, and even then it's not by that much.

Discrete pieces of hardware is the only reason, which is also the reason they give on their website (it's a really stupid reason to be fair).

Fulla 2 is the way to go, unless you want a cheap multimeme dac, in which case the modi multibit is good. Honestly, those are the only two things they sell that I would ever consider purchasing, and I wouldn't purchase either of them if something better showed up on massdrop in the same price range, which actually happens frequently.

Are dedicated headphones amps/DACs snake oil? The standard way in which pretty all stereo receivers are built is to take the signal from the main amp through resistors and into the headphone circuit (rather than having a dedicate headphone circuit). Surely that would be better at driving speakers than some cheap headphone amp?
>>
>>61830207
Yes, they can be snake oil, but they can also serve a legitimate function.
>>
Cheapest recommended headphones? I have Tascam TH-02s and I abused the hell out of them. It's hot and humid where I live and they'd make the area around my ears sweat and become very uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time due to the material feeling tight and constricting. I did loosen them but I have big ears. Can anyone recommend something comfortable and breathable, dirt cheap, and stronk?
>>
I'm getting a X3300W, can it be used as an amp for headphones? I'll be using it in my home theater setup, but I'm wondering what headphones would be good paired with it, if I wanted to do such a thing.
>>
>>61830923
>has a headphone jack on the front
>>
I see the term 'speed' thrown around every now and then when it comes to headphones, but what happens if the headphones are too 'slow' for the song you're listening to?
>>
>>61831282

Try adding some sound crystals in the cavity to increase the frequency response.
>>
>>61831326
I only have fruit loops
>>
>>61831282
It refers to transients. It's mostly related to impulse response (how quickly a driver can go from an excited state to a resting state) and obviously the better the impulse response the "faster" a headphone/speaker sounds. Impulse response is also a good indicator of how good a speaker can produce a stereo image.

i was told that some headphones would break with some amps, something about ohms and independance, i dunno. i figure since its not a dedicated amp and is also an video reciever its not up to spec for the best headphones. which is why im asking what would be best to use with it.
>>
>>61831742
It's pretty much a wives tale these days. If you had a cheap amp from the 70s with no protection mechanisms, you could make it go pop with impedance mismatching it's uncommon these days
>>
>>61831919
im talking about the headphones going pop, i didnt think the amp would break. unless thats what ur talking about
>>
>>61831937
just turn the volume down
>>
>>61826810
Those 1/4-inch adapters are jank. Get a proper pigtail adapter before you break your shit.
>>
>>61830923
Most receivers with headphone jacks don't even have specs on power, the jack is an afterthought. Expect 40mW to 600ohm, or basically shit tier.
>>
>>61832161
the headphone jack on the front has different power outputs compared to the inputs on the back for speakers? im fine buying a seperate amp, i was just wondering if i could use the x3000w as one to power my headphones in the first place. so the answer is... no?

So, they're better with a good amp, but shit without one. Got it. See? How hard was that. Nerds and their insecurities, I swear.
>>
>>61833259
Yeah pretty much
High impedence headphones + phone 3.5mm jack or computer front jack= shit
High impedence headphones + high output impedence headphone amp with high current= good
Low impedence headphones + phone jack or front computer jack= good
Low impedence headphones + high gain, high current, high output impedence headphone amp = good but potential driver damage/hearing damage at high volume.

Quick question, is the FiiO - E10K a good headphone amp?
>>
Shower headphones?
>>
I have ATH M50x and the sound now only comes from one of the drivers.
I noticed that if I unplug the cable from my DAC and plug it only halfway in, then I get sound on both sides again.
I also noticed if I unplug the cable from my headphones (detachable) and only plug them in half-way, then I can also hear on both sides again.
My DAC has 2 outputs of different size: one that fits with and one that fits without the adapter in pic related. Both of those produce sound on only one ear, but work on both if I only plug them in half-way so that they easily fall back out.

Which part is failing and why does this happen?

Hey guys, I currently have the Fidelio x2's which I use at my desktop and 1more triple driver earbuds which I use with my phone on the go. However I may be getting the Pixel 2 and I heard it might be dropping the headphone jack, so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for some wireless IEM's, and maybe some wireless closed over-ear ones as well, based on the headphones I own already own (which I'm happy with). Thanks

You can get any high end iem with a detachable cable and buy a Bluetooth receiver or Bluetooth cable for them
>>

>>
>>61834897
just use usb-c to analog audio adapter. or just don't buy pixel 2 and support shitty business practices.
>>61834909
lots of cheap ones, including the mpow one mentioned in this thread don't support aptx so audio will sound compressed
