What smartphone has the best typing experience? Or smartphone + keyboard combo? Is there a big difference between ios and android?

I believe some smartphones have a slower screen response time, some has worse accuracy, some maybe even too sensitive.

Is there any reviewer that tackle this?

My Nexus 5 is starting to be quite a bother, battery and performance wise
I think it's time to move on.
Looking for suggestions.

I dont wanna spend more than 250-280, I'm partial to minimalist clean black design, good battery, camera and performance.
I use it mainly for podcasts, youtube videos, streams, and internet browsing

I have liked the p9lite for a while and now the 10lite looks even better.

Amazong is selling it for 265€ over here, I think I might go for it.
The only thing that bugs me is that it has the glossy back instead of the matte backside the p10 has, which I really like.

the price seems to be so low because one in 15 phones is actually branded, while the description says no brand, I'm willing to take the risk, and get a refund
>>
>>61639358

>as long as the battery doesn't go to shit
It gets super hot when charging, but the battery life is still almost like-new, so here's hoping for the best.
This is really strange to me, having a smartphone for more than one year. I usually buy lowend or midrange. My last unit was a Moto G 3 with only 8gb internal storage. The phone worked perfectly fine, but clearing out the storage 3 times a week to stay under 8gb was extremely frustrating.
Some $50 Windows phone before that. Ditched it in 7 months because
>no software
>>
>>61639384
Honor 8 is 300€, I'd say it's worth the extra. Alternatively check out the Moto G5 Plus
>>
>>61639395
Nope, they all have it. The jelly effect is from the display being installed upside down, it's the same with all OP5's. Oneplus themselves confirmed it. Some people just notice it more, and some don't.
>>
>>61639384
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, or wait for the Note 5 which should be dropping soon

>>61639409
Heat is bad for lithium batteries, so if it's getting hot while charging I'd look into charging it with a slower charger (ie. 1A instead of 2A)

heh, I was already pushing it with 260 desu, just because I like the P line.

I would like to avoid the OP5. OnePlus is a shitty company that I would not like to support anymore.

Looking at getting an Xperia XZs to replace my aging GS5 but there seem to be some threads on XDA and Sony forums complaining about lens distortion effect making straight lines into waves Some of the comments were saying that most smartphones have this problem, plus Sony responded saying that the distortion is within industry standard for wide angle lenses, so I checked with my current phone camera and it looks like this too.

Is there actually anything especially bad about what the Sony cameras are doing or is this really just a thing that all smartphone camera lenses do because of physical limitations?

I dropped my redmi note 3, and the screen smashed.

I want to replace the glass, but a) I'm too lazy to do it myself, and b) All of the replacements that I've seen on aliexpress and other such sites have reviews that range from that the replacement is good, to reviews which state that replacements are shite, with bad color, and shit materials.

Would a local shop be able to replace it for me? It's the glass that's broken, but not the lcd underneath; all inputs are fine, but the glass is absolutely cracked to high hell - stuff is still just about readable, but it's not entirely excellent.

also the piece that broke I guess is called "fuel gauge" chip. I can power the phone on only by plugging the USB in with the battery unplugged, and then connecting the battery, and then powering the phone on.

so this allows temporary use of the phone, do you think it's damaging to do this? Would the fuel gauge chip usually control anything related to the charging of battery, or is it just measuring voltage in order to tell how much charge there is?

Looking to upgrade from my HTC One M9, it looks like its been through hell. I'm looking for durable phone or a company with cheap reliable phone replacement. I'm looking to spend around $600. I like the idea of an sd card slot but if there is more than 100 gb, an sd card slot is not even needed.

Mainly looking for a durable, reliable most likely Android phone thats fast, has a long battery life and at least 64GB of storage. Ill be using the phone on sprint.

Had an iPhone and was a joy once jailbroken. Upgraded to a note 3 and loved it until rooting it and tripping knox. The M9 hasn't been too bad except the way smaller screen, rooting it was a hassle, and its just been slow and ify lately. Wont send texts at times, cant call out. Charger port is fucked. I'm pretty rough on my stuff.

Every new update to android (and thus to derivative OSs like lineageos) are shittier in pretty much every single way (slower, takes more resources, more invasive features, removal of customization, misbehavior like complete lack of keyboard arrows and no way to turn it on, etc.) Is anything else available that works reasonably (can run android apps or has equivalent apps for everything) without all the cancer (so ios doesn't count)? What about sailfish? What happened to it anyway? Is the blackberry OS still a thing?

Why/how do phones get "slower" over time? Any phone made in the last 3-4 years should be able to text, shitpost, and play music until it physically breaks. Why the need to upgrade every other year?

this mainly applies to people using apps like facebook, snapchat, instagram etc, which are insanely bloated and bogged down.

that and just consumerism
>>
>>61648651
>>61648713 this guy is a paranoid retard. developers make software with the most current devices in mind, which means they'll make their apps do more as faster devices come out.

nobody's specifically going out and marginalizing older devices. the older devices are just falling behind. that's more salient on mobile devices because they're still advancing at a pretty fast pace compared to desktop and laptop hardware, and every year you get pretty substantial gains on computing power.

Opinions on the Google Pixel? Is it a meme phone or would it be a decent upgrade from the Droid Maxx I've had since 2014?
>>
>>61648651
It's combination of

-Mismanagement of third party. A lot of times people install retarded amount of shit that bloats up their phone, and make their file system bigger then it needs to be. In addition mismanagement of background services can slow down your phone.

- Carrier+OEM+GAPPs bloatware that ruin Android performance. 99% of reason why people bitch about Android lag is because of this.

- Apps being designed for flagship so low-end lag like crazy, and force you to upgrade to more powerful phone. High uses of Ram often slows down your device.

Factory Resets, reflashing rom, or unistalling apps solves most of those problem. It's nowhere near as bad as Windows Rot.

1GB RAM vs 2GB RAM
Out of that, ~0.3 to 0.6GB is constantly used simply to run the phone and its functions. Meaning with the 1GB RAM phone, you have very little to work with. You likely won't be able to keep more than 2 basic apps (or even 2 web pages within the browser) going at once. And most apps, even when not open, still run low-level in the background and use RAM. It's not like on Windows where when an app is closed it takes no resources...no. Then, with more and more service-type apps running (your emails, then WhatsApp, then another messaging service, Google services (non-optional)...it will become a struggle to even run one app comfortably.

2GB of RAM gives you much more to play with, a much bigger buffer, just more breathing and moving room as it were. In terms of actual user-usable RAM, it gives you much more than double of what 1GB gives you, if you catch my drift.

After that, look at the battery difference. The small one will only last you a full-day if you use it sparingly. You will REALLY appreciate that big battery.

In these two respect, like I said, the small bump in price will provide a world of difference in experience. Well well worth it.

I'm in a spot where I have a Galaxy S5 running CM11, because it has a lot of features that I lock (long press volume rocker to change tracks, removable battery, nice lockscreen, Voice+ integration), but find myself feeling as though I am crippling myself by not updating the thing.

I really, really hate material design, and it seems like phones have just continuously moved away from what I want. They're getting rid of headphone jacks, can't take out the battery anymore, more and more it listens to everything you say/do, and for some reason, they seem to purposely design them to force you to use the touch screen to do anything. If I'm on my bike, or in my car, I don't want to have to look at the phone to change tracks.

Does anyone else run into this? SHould I just give in and use a modern phone?

You need corrective lenses to avoid that effect. Have you ever looked at DSLR lens?
The Canon for example 100mm f/2.8 has 15 optical elements many of which are there just to correct various distortions..

I don't think you need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that a phone does not have 15 optical elements. Or even 10 of them. Or even 5.

>>61650486
I'll put it this way, if you live in a country that falls under the USA's sphere of influence rather than China's, would you rather have Chinese or American backdoors in your phone?

But on a more serious note, the bigger Chinese brands (Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi) are fine as long as you're buying them directly from them or from a reputable seller.

Would like a new phone that's about 400-650 dollars CANADIAN. Here are the things I would like

- microSD card slot
- about 32 to 64 GB of storage
- about 5.5 inch screen (1080p or higher)
- fairly new (although it can be a few years old, about 2015)
- nice battery (2500-3000 mAh)
- Android (can be upgraded to Nougat and most likely O when it comes out)
- fast (fairly modern specs)
- good for drops, scratches, maybe splash/waterproof? (that's not a necessity)

Would a Smartphone 5" Lenovo Moto G5 be a good buy at around 130€ for someone who hasn't owned a phone in a decade and now needs one for work?

Basically I'm looking for a solid phone, nothing fancy but with which I could still browse internet in my bed via wifi (from my own internet), using apps like Skype or Discord (I need them for work) and that's it basically. If you guys have any recommendations for me I'd be happy.
I'm from France. I'm a computer person, I need a phone because nowadays one needs a number, I want it to be sturdy and reliable, that's all, so budget is around 150€ maximum. Thanks.

I have one, it's a good phone and 130€ is a great price for it.

well, thats the tradeoffs.
but you shall consider them before you get one.

it doesn't get annoying because you never notice it at all. it'll save all the thumbnails and if you want to look at or share an old photo it'll just download it really quick.

>>61659354
Depends on the size that you want. Did you compare them? Gsmarena has an option for a direct comparison of specs.

>owning a 5 inch+ phone.

I new to smartphones, coming from a little ipod touch 4, how the hell do you move around with these things? I have a 5inch phone and I can barely stand it in my pocket.

Makes me want to buy a purse.

Hello /spg/,

can anyone advise me Iphone 6 and Iphone 6S screens ? Need to replace on both devices. Aliexpress reviews are kinda confusing, i want oem like quality

Thanks in advance
>>
>>61660449
>i want oem like quality

go to an Apple store. very high likelihood you will lose touch ID functionality with after market screen repairs (plus Apple won't touch phones that have been worked on by others).
>>
>>61660415
Many /g/ browsers wear cargo pants/shorts every day so there is plenty of room for our tech gadget EDCs.
>>
>>61660499
if i replace my old touchID sensor I wont, and I was already in apple certified store, and those fuckers gave me chink lcd for 6, which is pretty crap quality, cannot control it with sweaty fingersfor example...

it's not a huge difference it's just what you're used to
>>
>>61660415
I wear jeans every day and they are definitely not the baggy kind (not skinny either though, I'm not some /fa/ gaylord). A 5.5" phone is okay, I think anything bigger and i would not be able to move my legs. After half a year of wearing new jeans you can also see a rectangular fading in the jeans pocket so a smaller phone might be better for me I guess. Anyway, if you don't have girlish hands and don't wear skinny stuff, a big phone should be fine.
You'll get used to your 5" phone soon and will not be able to use a smaller one. Habeeb it.

SGS4. Running cyanogenmod with no issues whatsoever. Only had to change the battery because SOT was getting ridiculously shitty. I mainly use it as a hotspot device nowadays, main phone being an S7.

not baiting at all just asking a serious question,
aside from being an elitest for refusing having something everyone else has why dont you just get an IPhone 6sPlus...obviously skip the 7 cause mah headphone jack.

i mean apple takes security seriously and wont release it to the authorities even with heavy push by the government.

what holds you back? ios? its not that bad, and its marketplace is larger and more encompassing than any other marketplace.

Purchase advice. Country: Netherlands. Carrier?: KPN

Features: Android? Can use access internet, make phone calls. Want a pay as you go and not a pay monthly. Don't want it to be slow as shit.

Budget:€100-€350. Size: As long as it fits my pocket I don't care.

Right lads, listen here.

I've just had a good bit of money come into my bank account, and I want to know what phone to get.

the reason why I don't hop on the iphone bandwagon is, less options of customizing stuff, no easy piracy, and non-replacable battery.

this is also my main (probably only) issue with my xperia z1
