Migrating from MPC-HC?
https://github.com/dragons4life/MPC-HC-config-for-MPV/blob/master/input.conf

Vulkan(Linux only for now):
https://github.com/atomnuker/mpv

Test vulkan and post logs if it gives you any kind of problems.

For better playback quality paste this in your mpv.conf file:
# Specify high quality video rendering preset
profile=opengl-hq
# Scaler used when upscaling chroma (color information)
cscale=ewa_lanczos
# Scaler used when upscaling video
scale=ewa_lanczossharp

# Force video to lock on the display's refresh rate
video-sync=display-resample
# Reduces stuttering
interpolation
# Interpolation scaler
tscale=oversample

Notes: Remove cscale and scale if your computer isn't powerful enough.
Interpolation can also reduce framerate drastically.

Mpv uses software decoding by default.
You may want to enable hardware decoding using hwdec=auto or hwdec=auto-copy.
Note that it can lead to issues, depending on your video card.

Getting freezes under Windows?
Add
angle-flip=no
to your mpv.conf.

If MOUSE_BTN3 and MOUSE_BTN4 aren't working in your input.conf, try using AXIS_UP and AXIS_DOWN to control scrollwheel.

To get error logs, please add
log-file=log.txt
to your config file.
Then search the log for "dumb" anything or for [e].

It should be possible in principle now, but I don't know wether it actually is.

Also, it might be possible to do some tricks to share work among threads, but that might require warp exchange (with OpenGL doesn't have).

Just dropping by to let you all know I've tried way too many times to drop MPC-HC w/ MadVR so I could use mpv like the cool autistic kids but no matter how well I follow all your advice and try your dumbass configs and try my absolute hardest to find the best settings possible I can never get it to match the quality of MPC-HC. I tried REALLY hard this time to like mpv now that MPC-HC is dead, but I still can't get the quality to match.

But you know what? The worst part is all of you guys. Some of you are the most pretentious dickwads I've ever met. I've probably asked several times for an example of why mpv is objectively better than MPC-HC and I never get coherent answers. Hell, when I find a function mpv doesn't have that I want to fix sometimes you guys just say "Durr, why'd you want to do that anyway?". Don't respond to this, I'm just dropping by to let you all know you're wasting your time with this player. Also, to all the dickwads who kept lying about how I just can't see the difference because I'm a plebian, I personally hate you. You've all wasted hours of my time because you hurt my nerd ego, but you're all full of shit and you know it.

Guys... I'm still having this problem of some fonts in the files not being properly displayed. It happens with a specific set of files, apparently all the other ones work normally. The fonts in the files work fine if I run them with the "--no-embeddedfonts" in the comm. Otherwise, it apparently displays some standard font, but I am not able to recognize it... It only happens with mpv. I have not a single idea of why or how does this happen, or what can I do to solve it. Help? Pretty Please?

>stats.lua is showing "(DR)" on page 1 but "(naive)" on the second one, bug?
Post screenshot. I have nothing like that on page 1.
>>
>>61603746
But there is a major limitation with OpenGL currently. This feature should be less problematic than display-resample on some machines and maybe need less time than switching everything to Vulkan.

audio resampling is bad for audio quality - and doesn't work with bitstreaming.
>>

>>
>>61603746
Maybe we should add an issue on github but is it really a job for mpv? Why not creating an external software/script that creates, tests and validates the custom resolutions for the current display by itself and using a script like autospeed.lua?

interesting comparison would be speed and quality compared to super-xbr (since that's what ravu is partially based on) and nnedi3 with 32 neurons. it should be faster than nnedi3, but does it look as good? and does it compare to super-xbr?

>If MOUSE_BTN3 and MOUSE_BTN4 aren't working in your input.conf, try using AXIS_UP and AXIS_DOWN to control scrollwheel.
Why, what shit did they do?
>>
>>61605046
Because windows:
https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/4623

>Yeah, on macOS and Linux/Wayland, AXIS_UP and AXIS_DOWN mean different things to BTN3 and BTN4. The AXIS events are used for devices that do precise scrolling, like touchpads and mice with gesture scrolling, and BTN3/4 are used for notched scroll wheels. This is because the AXIS events can "scale" the input commands, so for example, if you have AXIS_UP bound to add volume 10 and you scroll half a unit (where a "unit" of scrolling is some device-specific amount,) it will increase the volume by 5.

>On Windows, I couldn't find a way to differentiate between precise and non-precise scroll events, so all devices now send AXIS_UP and AXIS_DOWN. On Linux/X11 it's the opposite: We don't use XInput 2.1 yet, so we can't get precise scrolling deltas on X11 even from precise devices, hence all devices send MOUSE_BTN3 and MOUSE_BTN4, which never scale their input commands.

It's far more subtle on this clip, probably because it's so blurry to begin with. But the effect on that GITS clip is actually pretty impressive. (Although it fucks up the N IMO, the A is pretty gud)

Does scale and sclale still do shit when using ravu? Why did you start using scale-clamp=0.5? What does vd-lavc-dr=yes exactly do, I remember using the gpu would cause mpv to use some kind of shitty chroma scaler, is that still the case? And last question, how is ravu for ~720p life action content scaling.

ngu aa doesn't overthin. ngu sharp thins, but if you do tests like e.g. upscaling a 1080p blu-ray to 4k, you'll see that ngu sharp actually gets the line thickness pretty much spot on for most lines, while nnedi3 and ngu aa have soft and bloated lines. let's not even talk about ewa something.

for proof see past comparisons with the passengers blu-ray.

SVP has a couple different features that you can enable or disable.

The feature that SVP is most known for is it's smooth motion algorithm. Essentially it will create new frames to artificially increase the framerate of video so that it matches your screen's framerate. Since it's actually creating new frames it tends to create weird visual artifacts around the edges of some moving objects. If you look closely at the text at around the 5 second mark you'll notice it, though in practice the artifacts appear around all sorts of movement especially limbs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wjb6CSe4708
This feature runs on the GPU and can be tuned for performance/vs speed. It also has an artifact masking feature that will try to decrease artifacts by interpolating more of the actual frames in. In practice this feature kind of sucks, desu (cause artifacts).

Another feature it has but is not well known for is it's black bar lighting effects.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTzTpW3kTBE
This feature allows you to change the number of lights, how far they extend, and how far into the image they get color from (as well as some other features I think). I like this feature, looks nice and works well.

It also has some features to control led lighting equipment behind/around your tv but as I don't have that I can't say how well it works/doesn't.

It's pretty easy to use and because of the way it works you can try it out without permanently modifying your mpv (I just added a special profile for svp and whenever I want to use it I run it with that). That said, setting it up on Linux is easy, not sure how hard it is on Windows. It seems these days that everything is way easier to do on Linux.

well, the image is bigger than my monitor (1920x1080) so it'd have to downscale it somehow
I'm be betting that mitchell is better than whatever Windows uses
>>
>>61619945
Depends on the image.

2x downscaling isn't so bad if you get it wrong, although the result will be slightly more aliased. (In fact, even nearest neighbour 2x downscaling is fine as long as the source image has no aliasing to begin with)

The other thing to watch out would be changing the brightness of fine patterns, which is especially obvious on stuff like pixel art, but should mostly be a non-issue for anime/photographic content.
>>
>>61619996
I mean, to clarify: mpv's result will always be better or equal than windows', or your money back. (Assuming you save the screenshot as PNG)

it takes like 3 minutes to compile

which script you're talking?

Look at how bad is the iina gui before shitposting.
It's fucking useless and is a pain to maintain for the devs.

low quality b8 but
>look up guides from idiots you can't trust on outdated version of VLC and painfully tick same boxes, though some features are missing or replaced
vs
>ctrl+f for relevant settings on actual documentation page written by devs + get DEPRECATED warnings in CLI if you copy paste some retard's config

The mind of a severe autist. It hurts him to have such convenience! He needs to kill time so he doesn't have to find a real job!
>>
>>61620330
And 2 hours to install the dependencies. :D
>>
>>61620397
I mean manually typing out the config lines is still 10x faster than going through 20 settings page screenshots

can someone tell me how to make the input.conf for mpv

Takes a few seconds to build mpv here, from HDD (sandy bridge CPU)

Is it just me or is direct rendering based as fuck?
>>

Are you upscaling to 4k.
How good is ravu for anime?
>>
>>61620508
You create it.
>>
>>61620685
I am, after some very quick comparisons it looks better than using SSimSuperRes+KrigBilateral but some series I still like to use adaptive-sharpen with

put that into terminal and it said there was no such directory.

also love how /g/ is so mature that anyone using mac is immediately called a toddler, without knowing situations. I only started using OSX yesterday.

Then please learn how to use basic *nix commands. I'm not going to spoonfeed you.

You should be able to figure this out

NGU is based on fsrcnn it's obvious.

Hardware acceleration is fucking shit.

I always used software rendering on MPC-HC and it was always better at playing 60fps than DXVA even on my old Core2Duo laptop.

Finally tried RAAAVUUUUU! Looks promising but for now too much ringing. Top is nnedi3 64, bottom is RAVU-r3-native.
>>
Why RAVU doesnt work with adaptive antiringing shader? :(
>>
>>61594376
I can't make stats.lua works with mpv.

I copied the file to this directory :
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\mpv\scripts"

My mpv.conf is right here :
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\mpv\"

And the stats doesn't show up while pressing i (bother lowercase and uppercase).

What am I doing wrong ?
>>
>>61621582
Me too but doesn't work with 4K VP9/HEVC files.
>>
>>61621819
I don't fucking know but if it was possible, bjin would integrate AA inside ravu itself.
>>
>>61621746
What about haasnsoft+SSimSuperRes?

Now RAVU r3-native -> ewa_lanczossharp. Oil painter meme shader confirmed?! Just kidding. I think RAVU has lots of potential.

Mhm, looks good on animu.
>>
>>61620633
Direct rendering has a visible positive impact on 4k but hurts performance on 1080p and sub for me.

NGU AA very high for comparison.
