I'm a motion designer and I use adobe after effects pretty heavily in creating animations and promotional videos. For a while now I've noticed that work demands are going up (clients want 4K video instead of 1080p) but the system can't seem to keep up with it. It takes several seconds to render just a single 4K frame in a composition that is 60fps.

My current specs are in the OP image, how can I identify what needs improving and what can stay as is?

processor is shit
>>
>>61517558
Your CPU is only 6 cores and really inefficient small cores at that. Your biggest upgrade would be to get a Ryzen CPU. The r7-1700 would do you fine. That and possibly getting 32GB of ram
>>

>Fx-6300

Welp, there you go.
>>
>>61517558
move to the Ryzen R7 1700 and 32GB of DDR4-3000+.
>>
What exactly is your GPU OP?
It lists the r9 200 series, not the actual card.
>>
>>61517629
If it's 4gb it's probably an r9-290
>>
>>61517638
probably but apparently some 270 models have that too
>>
>>61517629
R9 290 factory clock

To be transparent the reason alot of my stuff is AMD is because this was all put together when I was on the lower end of the salary scale and it was the cheapest option
>>
>>61517670

have you tried monitoring cpu/gpu usage while rending and seen what bottlenecks first?
>>
>>61517670
You basically need to toss your Mobo+cpu+ram in the trash and get a ryzen setup or laby lake Intel setup. You can get the best fx processor and it'll still be weaker than the cheapest ryzen out

Haven't monitored GPU but I've done CPU at 1080p and 4k

1080p is 65-75%
4K is up to 99% every frame, pic related is in a trough where it goes down to 25~%

GPU doesn't seem to use much at all while the CPU is absolutely chugging

Figures are from 4K render

GPU:

You might be able to hang onto that GPU for a little while longer, but a CPU upgrade is sorely needed.

i concur

GPU is fine. Replace CPU with an R7 1700. You'll need an AM4 mobo and DDR4 RAM too.

There's your answer.
>>
>>61517558
It seems that AE never supported rendering the output on a GPU besides raytraycing.so you'll need new processor to fix your performance.

You wil get best bang for the buck with something like Ryzen 7 1700. Go to PCBG for more information.

Just an FYI, the 1700 is the same chip as the 1800x, so if you overclock them both to 4GHz+ you'll get the same performance.
>>
>>61517992
Not every 1700 goes up to 4GHz and surely not at the samepower output.

>bulldozer was shit so ryzen m-must be shit!!!

So desperate.
>>
>>61517558
Get yourself an SSD for one, HDD write times with rendering programs are notoriously bad
>>
>>61518077
This guy is asking for help on a new system that needs to be able to run 4k video rendering.

Given the current market, of course you'd advice a R7 processor. You can literally build an entire system sans GPU based on the Ryzen platform for the same amount of money you'd have to spend on only a i9 cpu. And they would preform about the same.
>>
no one said hard drive. could go with SSD for faster results
