tfw when i feel for the meme. The mids make too much sibilance in vocals. Sound stage is pretty shitty too. I guess it would blow my mind if I'd only heard shit before. LSR305 blow them away but I need a new desk since my is too short for proper placement.

Why do you people even post here? /hpg/ is just as bad as head-fi, just inversely. These people think a $20 amplifier, a $200 amplifier, a $1000 amplifier and a $5000 amplifier all sound the same.

For every audiophile who buys $300 cables for their headphones on head-fi, /g/ has a poor pseudo-scientist who thinks he has some sort of enlightened understanding about objectivism.

Buy good gear. Listen to them. Learn for yourself what sounds different and what doesn't.

I couldn't agree more. Between the awkward weebs posting their waifus wearing headphones, to the viciously cyclical hd600 is endgame and any amp/dac over $100 is snake oil echo chamber this thread is absolute cancer and I swear it's the same 3 people who just jerk off and post in these threads 24/7. It's the same group of objectivist pseudoscientists who claim everything that doesn't fit there best headphone setup narrative is placebo or snake oil.

I totally understand the sentiment to undermine snake-oil in the audio hobby, but if you honestly think that all dacs/amps sound the same and that the hd600s are the only headphone worth the price you're honestly fucking deaf or don't listen to music in the first place.

Being here since before the first /hpg/, it has always being like this, what usually happens is that the shitposting has peaks and valleys, it starts subtle, people buy it and argue over it, it then turns to a full brand war, it reaches a peak when the shitposting couldn't be more appearent, with people literally shiposting about shitposting, then it gets old, shitposters get tired and we have another short valley of good talks in which the threads last much longer.

Philips SHP9500 + V-Moda BoomPro is the go-to headset right now. It should work well with Razer Surround.
>>
>>61482800
The 2000 pretty much just has a stronger type of magnet I believe. Also I recall one online reviewer saying he didn't notice a difference between the 1000 and 2000. I paid $220 for my 1000 new, I would have had to pay more than double that for the 2000.
>>
>>61483363
i noticed the AD700x have no bass. They also barely want to stay on your head. I only had to test them out for 5 mins before i hated them. The revolvers are VERY open sounding and they DO give me the best positional sound of the 6 headphones i have used. the DT 770 pro are also pretty good but the sound difference to me in game was so minimal im going to return them as they are 60$ more and the hyperx cans are very comfortable to wear as well.

>>
>>61483383
Good to know. I think I heard people say anywhere between a 1% - 15% potential improvement, but didn't think that made sense at double the cost.

>>61483434
The world's universal solution to everything is no laughing matter.

Alternatively, leather pads could be a thing if you're okay with the cost and other sounds changes.
>>
>>61483766
why not the K7XX if you're just looking for the exaggerated soundstage specifically? Seems like a better value compared to the pricey K712. Someone here will probably tell you to get the K612 for its neutral sound signature instead but that has a subpar earpad and headband in comparison along with attached cables.
>>
>>61483766
If you didn't already own the Fidelio X2's I would say the K7XX line up is very much worth it for gaming.

AKG K7XX line up will have slightly better soundstage.
However the X2 is already a great gaming headphone. So it really isn't worth it for the side grade.

>>
>>61484021
Yeah, maybe for a profit of $30 or so. But just why?

>>61483938
A schiit stack will give you plenty of clean power. But if you want even more fidelity buy a matrix hpa-2/3 or a bottlehead crack if you're willing to shell out a lot of cash.
>>
>I specifically want an OTL amp
I'm of the opinion that amps do make a fairly significant difference in sound quality. But buying tubes just for the sake of buying tubes is a horribly misguided approach. There are solid states that sound warm and OTLs that sound cold.

But if you're dead set on getting an OTL just get a Crack. Personally I wouldn't spend that much until I had at least an HD800 or a T1.

Hello /hpg/. Anyone has a photo of correctly wired German Maestro headphones drivers?
I had to replace cable in them before few months ago, and it seems like I wired right driver wrong.
These headphones have single ended cable going to left driver.
Yellow is R(+), Gray (connected to red) is L+. Brown, which is connected to Blue, is -. It seems strange to me that left and right driver are wired different, with left terminal being - and right terminal being + on left driver, and the other way on the right one.

I had the 400i for a while, the trebles sounded very very strange to me. Bass and mids were great and full though. Still would not recommend.
>>
>>61485731
I would imagine all those magnets and metal surrounding the diaphragm would do that and fuck up the imaging as well.
>>
>>61485765
I can't really recall how the imaging was but I think it wasn't worse than average. The soundstage wasn't huge but it was definitely more open sounding than my Audezes.

My complaint was that it just sounded incoherent overall. It definitely did have some punch and kick to it though if you're into that.
>>
I thought the HE-400 was supposed to be good though
>>
>>61486236
I dunno about the original 400 but I promise you the 400i is really underwhelming. People just hype it because it's a cheap way to own a planar magnetic.

I've built tube amps for shits and giggles, and I know what tubes do and how they sound (I'm an electrical engineer).

It's not that tubes are always snake oil, it's the fact that you shouldn't be using them in fucking dacs. Preamps? Power amps? Integrated amps? Sure.

A fucking device that has one job that shouldn't involve any boost in gain or voltage? No.
>>
Finally my akg k612 that /hpg/ recommended arrived to replace my broken audio technica headphones

I like the headphones however I have a problem with the headband pressing really hard on the top of my head, is there any way to fix this?

Right now I'm wearing them with the headband back so they are only hanging by my ears however its kind of uncomfortable
>>

They're not neutral at all. I find the treble to be extremely harsh on these. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Equalizing doesn't seem to work, the sibilance is still there no matter what. Should I just send them back and look for something else?

What AKG headphones have the most AKG sound? Sennheiser's are HD650s (veiled with mid-range), Beyerdynamic's are DT990s (V-shaped as fuck). But what about AKG? K701?

K702 would be the equivalent mid range to HD600 and DT880

Probably DT880. The midrange in the HD600 is very flat and good, so sibilance is highly unlikely.

The Dropbox link in that thread has the best crossfeed available. It is the only crossfeed I am aware of with zero effect on frequency response. Its default setting is fine; set gain to -4.8 for maximum volume without clipping. It will clip above -4.8. Flat frequency response and -4.8 gain setting verified with VST Plugin Analyzer.
>>
>>61491968
The campfire audio stuff is sensitive enough to play just fine on those devices.

Install this first. Instructions are on that page. Then use the VST wrapper to load the .dll in the zip file in the Dropbox link in >>61491988
The gain will sometimes reset itself to default value; remember to set it to -4.8.
>>
>>61492306
Thank you, Anon.
>>
>>61492318
You can also use it with MPC-HC if you use that. Set MPC-HC to use ffdshow audio instead of LAV audio then use VST Host v1.1.6 for Winamp under ffdshow audio's Winamp 2 option to load the .dll. It won't let you change the gain, so compensate by setting ffdshow's volume setting to master volume 7 dB.
I find crossfeed nice for anime/movies because it places the voices more "in front" of you.

You can benefit from an amp's analog volume control knob since digital volume control typically lowers signal to noise ratio: http://www.esstech.com/files/3014/4095/4308/digital-vs-analog-volume-control.pdf

You'll get a nice volume pot and, if you do the smart thing and get a usb dac+amp, you'll also have a source that sounds good regardless of what computer you plug it to.
Whether you'll get any benefits besides the analog volume pot depends on how bad your computer is and how much your headphones do want an amp. The SHP9500, not much.

If you're going with poorfag tier headphones, you're probably best saving money for when you can buy something high end (such as HD600, k712, some funky planar or the like).
Transducers matter way more than amps and dacs.
Once you have one of these, however, it'll be time to get one trusted source. Note something like a fulla 2 will suffice for 9999 out of 10k headphones out there.

Unless the tube amp is really bad that shit will be inaudible. The only audible difference you'll get will come from the output impedance if your dynamic headphones have a steep impedance swing
>>
>>61494322
>DAC
fulla2. It's a dac+amp, but it has two dac outs that don't pass through the amp. Very practical device
>tube amp
If you wanna play with tubes, grabbing a vali is an option.

Thanks

>>61494281
The Magni 2U isn't bad at all. It just isn't quite as good as the amp in the NFB-11.

>>61494318
I've only downloaded albums from there before, but there seems to be a good selection
>>
>>61494408
The NFB-11 isn't good, at all. None of the audio-gd products are.

They are the Little Dot of solid state amps.
>>
>>61494359
>Crack
It's like $200, $400 if you want the upgraded one.
It doesn't really seem much more expensive than the other options, aside from the fact you have to build the fucking thing yourself.
>>
>>61494404
>I have autism and wear new balance dad mode sneakers

I don't disagree with you. But shut the fuck up.
>>
>>61494318
Oh, and there's also some stuff on https://musicflac.net/

>>61494417
What makes you say that?
>>
>>61494404
If it doesn't look good what the fuck is the point?
>>
>>61494408
>I've only downloaded albums from there before, but there seems to be a good selection

Thanks. I'm going to use it throughout the week and see how it is.
>>
>>61494437
>What makes you say that?
The entirety of their consumerbase being audiophiles who believe in gold contacts on toslink cables and pebbles to make things sound better.

Every audio-GD product that gets measured turns out to be crap.
>>
>>61494430

Hilarious!
>>
no clue about audio equipment
bought a dac/amp combo and sounds okay I guess.

now I want to buy new headphones, but how do I calc what the amp can drive?
I want to check before I get some high impedance headphones which I can't use with this thing first
>>
>>61494437
Bookmarked. Thanks friend.
>>
>>61494422
The upgraded version with speedball is absolutely necessary in my honest opinion. That being said, if you know how to solder it's worth the time and effort.
>>
Multibit is a meme and you can't hear it.
>>
>>61494463
What dac/amp combo did you get?
>>
>>61494461
Like your clothing. Prove me wrong.
>>
>>61494504
TEAC AI-101DA

also, is it worth it getting an optical audio cable when it's already connected via usb?
>>
>>61494529
>also, is it worth it getting an optical audio cable when it's already connected via usb?
No
>>
>>61494463
Buy a fulla 2. It's a dac+amp and it should be more than good enough for you. It will drive pretty much any headphone that you will be looking at. DThe headphones choice is obviously up to you. You need to do some homework on it. Try buying from amazon, as you can easily return electronics back to them as long as they're the actual seller. They even send a courier to your house to pick it up for free most of the time.
>>
I need headphones that wont make your ears sweat. I will be using them for casual use and gaming. My ears get sweaty super easy. Ive used HyperX Cloud IIs and Beyer Dynamic DT880 and they both make my ears sweat really bad.

What can you guys recommend for me? <$200
>>
>>61494460
>The entirety of their consumerbase being audiophiles who believe in gold contacts on toslink cables and pebbles to make things sound better.

I don't know what you're on about. I'm not a believer in any of that sort of thing.

>Every audio-GD product that gets measured turns out to be crap.

The only one I know of that measured poorly was that R2R DAC, the Singularity 19, which is a lemon from what I've seen about it. That doesn't speak for every product they make, though, and there are pretty much no companies in the audio business that have a flawless track record.
>>
>>61494587
If open headphones with velour earpads like DT880 make your ears sweat I honestly don't know what won't.
>>
>>61494574
>>61494529
That said it seems you already have a good amp. Just spend some time looking into headphones and see what sound signature suits your preference. Then try and narrow it down.
>>
>>61494604
How can you know the product is good without measurements?
>>
>>61494587
>DT880
>Open
>makes my ears sweat really bad
Nothing will help you if you're sweating really bad with open velour. Try looking into IEM's.
>>
>>61494609
okay, nice

so I don't have to limit myself to 40 Ohm cans?
Think I will get ~250 Ohm and try a couple different out then.
>>
>>61494616
Is that what this is about?
>>
>>61494587
>DT880
The sweat was a stress response to the excessive treble.
>>
>>61494675
There is no evidence of audio-GD products being good, they look terrible and they're overpriced.

Just because you fell for it doesn't mean you should try and trick others into doing the same.
>>
>>61494616
Not him, but how can you know the company is trash when you clearly have never tried one of their products?
>>
>>61494512

Jokes on you.

I can smell the buyers remorse from here already.

Enjoy your glorified onboard audio chipset.
>>
Man, Schiit really isn't remotely affordable if you live outside of the US.
>>
>>61494587
Damn, i live in a tropical country and i don't sweat with the DT880, how hot is it where you live?
Keeping windows open and maybe a table fan could help.
About the headphone the only idea i currently have is getting an iem so you have as little as possible touching your skin.
>>
>>61494780
>>61494800
It cost only a few hundred, and it does make a difference with my HD650. Not like I went and bought an Yggdrasil or something.
>>
>>61494872
>and it does make a difference with my HD650
Compared to what, not listening to the HD650 at all?
>>
>>61494804
I got my schiit from the uk. It's more expensive, sure, but it's still highly competitive.
>>
>>61494885
Compared to both on-board audio and the X-Fi Titanium sound card that I used it with for several months
>>
>>61494957
Congratulations you can get that same difference from this https://hifimediy.com/Sabre-9018-DAC
>>
>>61494990
I don't think so. That doesn't include an amp with it anyway.
>>
>>61495100
It has a 3.5mm socket, are you retarded?
>>
>>61494957
Idol trash here.
My onboard, xfi titanium and xfi titanium hd (both pcie) are TRASH compared to fulla2, nevermind schitt stack.
>>
>>61495108
It's a DAC. It says right on there that it can push the HD650 to only 103 dB. I use EQ and that isn't nearly enough. I appreciate your concern, Anon, but I'm already very satisfied.
>>
>>61495183
>It says right on there that it can push the HD650 to only 103 dB.

Actually, I misread that. Regardless, it wouldn't have enough power.
>>

What the fuck do you think the SABRE9601 is?

>It says right on there that it can push the HD650 to only 103 dB. I use EQ and that isn't nearly enough.

You should have said you had no idea what you were doing in the first place.

Actually no it was my mistake for not assuming when you said you owned an audio-GD product.
>>
>>61495219
I had skimmed through the specs. Relax. It still doesn't perform nearly as well for my needs.

They run fine from an iPhone 5 I don't see why they would run worse with a more powerful amplifier.

>>
>>61495378
Oh, I don't doubt that it'd be okay for some people, but it definitely wouldn't have enough power for me

You've got to be careful of the output impedance of whatever you plug it into, I've heard that their sound changes a lot depending on the output impedance.
