I asked this in the /dpt/ thread already but they're currently discussing Islam.

Left side, with the blue brush = my painting program. The blue 1 was made in one stroke of blue color first. Then, the 2 was made with a second stroke that first goes through the blue 1 but then also goes through itself. It's easy for me to make the old color bluer since I know I haven't modified it yet with the current stroke. But how can I tell that I can modify the color made by the current stroke when I go over it again within the same stroke? Like how can I tell the difference when it's okay to make the color darker? Because as the brush moves, say, left to right, the leftmost part of the brush would try to paint over pixels that were already painted blue by the rightmost part of the brush.
And it gets even worse if the brush is say, two colored. Let's say the left half of the brush is green, the right half is red. Then, if I go left to right, the rightmost pixels will always be painted red, but it should be followed by an increasingly longer "tail" of green, if you know what I mean.

Right side is how it's done in MSPaint. As you can see, even in the top left example, if the yellow brush goes in one stroke through itself, the color gets slightly darker.

Am I missing some blatantly obvious solution here? How can I tell if the brush should paint over pixels that the brush just painted within the same stroke?

They provide power, additional ports for peripherals, occasionally additional hardware, and, best of all, you can leave everything attached to the dock at the end of the day, then stroll off with just the laptop.

Also, the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Update will include a Swype keyboard, so then there won't be any software needed

NewPipie lets you easily download YouTube music for free.

You just need to download F-Droid and you can get it there.

Paid streaming services like Spotify and Deezer let you save music too, but in an encrypted format and from my experience those apps drain the battery extremely fast

One of the two fans on my video card is dead...sorta. It only kicks in when the fan speed is set to 70% or more. This means my video card goes from silent to jet engine multiple times every minute, which is annoying as fuck. Can't afford a new card in this market, so I'm trying to figure a free way out to fix this.

I have a fan lying around. I was thinking of taking the bad one out, reapplying thermal paste, then strapping the case fan on with some zip ties over the space where the old one was. Only problem is the case fan is only 26.2 cfm. Do you think this would work?
>>
exactly what is net neutrality?
>>
>>61426619
a word that has since lost its original meaning in the background noise of competing views as to what, exactly, net neutrality actually is and is supposed to do
but when a concept like net neutrality relies on federal government control, that should scream a warning to you
the less federal control, the better, Americans should do better to stand up for their state rights

It means prohibiting ISPs from discriminating/prioritizing certain traffic. Without it they can block or change the speed of any traffic they want, which is pretty much pure suck for the end user and any websites that can't afford to shell out billions to keep up with the big boys. Especially bad for startups.
>>
>>61426126
I don't know what you mean. The blue color is transparent in that picture (Alpha channel set to 125) and I check for each pixel in the brush that goes over a canvas pixel if it should paint the canvas pixel with a new color (if it hasn't been already painted by a previous pixel from the brush; otherwise I would keep re-painting what I already painted with the brush without going over it again). But then, how can I tell that when I go up and back again through the same stroke with the brush that "now" it's okay for the color to be re-painted with a bluer shade of blue since now the colors are allowed to interact?
>>
>>61426791
Yes, when it's not taken to the extreme. Ever heard of moderation? A little bit of everything.
Also, laws > regulation. There is a difference.
>>
>>61426927
but taking it to the extreme means extreme profit so they will always do it if they can?

I got a hand-me-down computer with a Noctua NH-U12S cooler in it, but it doesn't have a fan or fan clips. The only problem is on the Noctua website, all of the available fans for sale are 'NH' models. Am I just shit out of luck, and have to buy a whole new cooler?
>>
>>61425989
Ignoring the bizarre half-and-half example you only need to paint with the leading edge of the brush.

>>61426308
What the hell did you do to remove it? Try sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*
>>
>>61426990
Taking something to the extreme isn't healthy for a company. See Intel, the last time they slapped EXTREME on something consumers ended up with a housefire.
>>
There's nothing wrong with repealing net neutrality. Why are you so much worried over it, goys? It won't affect you, it's strictly between Google and other evil companies and ISPs.
>>

>Noctua NH-U12S

You don't need a noctua fan, but you need the clips. Maybe you can zip tie in the meanwhile?

Businesses are 98% opportunistic greed and 2% the expectation that appearing altruistic will help them somehow in the future. I'm not saying you won't get the odd well intended owner, but left unattended the business sector will absolutely bleed us for everything we're worth. There's more proof of this than practically anything in human history.
>>
>>61427091
Yeah, even if you get the clips it has to be the same size or they won't fit.
>>
>>61427093
>but left unattended the business sector will absolutely bleed us for everything we're worth
That's what laws are for. Net neutrality isn't a law.
>>
>>61427027
>What the hell did you do to remove it?
I just removed the one thing.
But I'm thinking that the warnings i'm getting now might have been "suppressed" by that package somehow. Because that Flux package was giving me some error, which is part of the reason I uninstalled it. So now that it's gone, that's probably why i get these warnings instead.
>Try sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*
What does this do? Isn't it bad if i delete all package lists?
>>
>>61427102
On their website, it says the 120mm size fan (that i'm looking at) has a 105x105 mm mounting hole spacing. Is that big enough to fit on the NH-U12S, or should I go with a bigger one?
>>
>>61427151
Well the holes are offset from the edges a bit obviously. The fan that comes with it is 120mm, so you want a 120mm fan. Not sure if the hole spacing is standardized or whatnot. Why not just get the noctua fan? I know they're pricy but they are great fans, and very quiet while still pushing a lot of air.

>>
>>61427122

>>
>>61427176
Sorry if I didn't make it clear. I am looking at one of the Noctua fans. The NH-U12S says it's compatible with 120x120x25 size fans, and the one i'm looking at (NF-S12A PWM) is a 120x120x25. I just want to make sure before I buy anything that it'd be one that'll fit on my model.
>>
>>61427231
http://noctua.at/en/nh-u12s.html

On the specs page, it comes with a NF-F12 PWM.

http://noctua.at/en/nf-f12-pwm/specification
http://noctua.at/en/nf-s12a-pwm/specification

Hole spacing is same on both, and both are 4-pin PWM so I think they'll both fit. The nf-s12a looks better though, pushes more air at lower rpm.

Dear /sqt/.

I know it will sound stupid and all but - is browsing "red" sites like redtube or xhamster even safe? Several years ago simply accessing websites with porn content would mean automatical flood of malware. Did it change?

Picrelated is highly unnecessary. Your modem will depend on your ISP. Your router could be any decent brand like netgear or linksys that has a/b/g/n. AC optional. I'd really consider running a long ethernet cable to the second pc, or taking a stab at powerline adaptors. If your wiring is good, they can be about 2/3 as good as ethernet.

running win 10
my pc will occasionally lag like crazy, usually when under a heavy load though, like starting a game. when i open task manager to see what the issue is, its always System taking up all my disk space. For modem either use comcast provided or buy a recommended modem like surfboard if you plan on using their service for a year or two and want to save money.Don't forget to bridge modem to router.

For router it depends. If your house is large enough or has enough barriers, one router might not be an option. Wifi has its limits, and paying way too much for a router doesn't change that. You could set up a second router if you can cover part of the distance with ethernet, or use powerline. Also the quality of his wifi adapter will make a difference, as will the amount of interference from microwaves/bluetooth/other devices and wifi networks.

my network:

i've port forwarded 8080 on the gateway to the wap and on the wap to the pc, and added a firewall exception for 8080. any idea why 8080 is still showing as closed?

You'll have to see how well it does. You will definitely introduce some latency, but whether that's enough to introduce a noticeable difference is hard to predict. If he has problems, look for a well reviewed wifi adapter. If that still doesn't cut it, you may have to shell out for powerline. In your situation I probably wouldn't even bother switching out the stock gateway except to save on lease fees. It's unlikely to be the weak link.

Just beginning to learn multithreading in python. If I have multiple threads writing to a file, is there a better way to do this than having every thread except for the one writing to a file sleep for the duration of the writing?
>>
>>61431036
>multithreading in python
Lol.

>is there a better way
You need to either only have one writer (so have other threads put their writes in a queue for the dedicated writing thread to consume) or, yes, syncronise you writes using some locking mechanism. If your are polling and sleeping then that will work but there are locking primitives that can simplify you code.
>>
>>61430791
You don't need a dual band router. That shit only affects your maximum bandwidth, which is already more than you'll ever saturate with internet. And dual-core sure as fuck doesn't matter. You're getting dragged in to BS that's mostly marketed to newbs who don't know better and has no impact on your range. The only thing a good router might fix is bufferbloat, and that's unlikely for 2 people on 100mbps unless one of you torrents like a motherfucker.
>>
>>61431036
Do the threads have any other work they could be doing, instead of sleeping? If they don't, that approach will work. If they do, then consider having them put the write requests into a queue, which should be much faster than the writes to disk, then have another thread that consumes the queued requests and writes them to disk.
>>
>>61430791
The most important thing for online gaming is your latency to your ISP assigned gateway. After that, you should pick servers to play on that are geographically close.
Check what your internet gateway is on your router and run this command in command prompt.

ping <gatewayip>

If this is low (should be below 5ms at least), you're good to go. Also, wifi isn't the greatest for latency either. It might seem fine but if anything messes up the signal you're gonna have lag.

MU-MIMO is going to be pretty much useless to you. For starters, it's unlikely that any of your devices actually support it. It's also a pretty useless feature that tries to cut back on latency in a place where it doesn't exist. Also it works exclusively over wireless AC, which is a 5ghz standard, and therefor doesn't reach as far as 2.4n or pass through walls as well.

She also couldn't care less about privacy as she posts her whole life on facebook, so that's why 10 is an option. Would be mostly for internet and office.

While I wouldn't use it myself, I've read that boot times and general usage with limited resources in 10 would be faster than 7, but I'm unsure about that with all the bullshit they install in background. I'll try to debloat either option as much as possible.

Is it possible on voice chat services like ventrilo, teamspeak, mumble, or discord; to have it where you are unbanable through scripts or in someway able to make yourself admin so that you can't be banned. Pretty future proof. Although no guarantees that you'll get a version that supports custom firmware, so lets hope you're happy with stock. There are also cheaper models out there that work well, but it sounds like money's not your primary concern.
>>
>>61431498
No, if you want to not get banned you have to be friendly to people and maybe suck the admin's dick.
>>
>>61431514
Now i know there are ways to get around bans. But you're saying that lets so ventrilo, that there isn't any script out there to make you unbanable or to obtain an admin level? Cause im not to good on scripting of coding but shouldn't there be a way to write a script for it? I know the networking part of it Like vpns proxies, changing your physical id. But what makes it impossible in the coding world and scripting world to get around this?
>>
>>61431541
Get a power glove and learn to be a 1337 hacker.
>>
>>61431550
I mean what makes it impossible to write a script for it then? When someone goes through a proxy they're changing their location and network id. Then the system thinks it's a diff user same with your physical id. And then you're unbanned so what are technical reason. What are the coding and script limitations then?
>>
>>61431570
Because admins have accounts registered and elevated permissions on the server. So to get that yourself you would have to hack the server. Or bribe some chump.

The only thing i could think about would be the certain type of program you're writing the code/script for. I know some basics but visual basic is way diff from say C++. So probably those are the limitations. The other part of it might just be the know how. When i took one class of visual basic i noticed that instead say like music and art where you make stuff based on feelings, and in the moment. Coding and scripting tends to be more mathematical or logical oriented. So that's probably the best educated guess i can come up with.

Ehh refurbished hdd yea i'd stay away from those i can say with confidence. The most likely component for fail is your hard drive with most moving parts; so stay away from refurbished hdd personally. You can take the risk if you want but i'd just get a new one. Unless they're offering one hell of a warranty like if this breaks in x amount of years then your hdd replaced with a new one. So caution advised on that end at least.

As long as it's spinning, damage is happening. Image now, sort out the filesystem later. If Linux, consider a program like ddrescue that tries very hard to read all the blocks.

I wouldn't run away immediately from a manufacturer-recertified drive, but I wouldn't run one outside of a mirror either.

is it possible to track all the registry entries that a program checks when opening?

I have this lawyer software that a small firm of a friend of mine uses and he has it since 2003 and runs on x32 xp but now every PC is x64 and sometimes you can't even find 32 bits drivers so I want to move that program to an x64 computer, however there's no way for me to moe it because the moment I try to open it it says it's an illegal copy so I want to know which registry entry it checks, copy them all and import them in the registry of this new x64 OS.

I'm telling the whole story because maybe you guys know of an alternative I've not think of

Thanks but that's vanilla 7.

WES7 is a 64bit embedded release of windows 7 that uses the same activation method as XP VL and friends.
it is the only way to have activated 7 on UEFI and bios without loaders or kms emulators and supposedly gets an extra year of updates. You can also heavily customise the OS features it has at install time.

SteamFag from the other thread.

It turns out all I had to do was clear Steam's browser cache and cookies....I guess I click a lot.

Now my question, much less serious but annoying, is: I added the old steam library (because I reinstalled Steam to a different drive) to the new location but it isn't recognizing the library in SteamLibrary. The folder it reads it from is F:Steam, which contains SteamLibrary. Do I just need to refresh or does it only read what is directly contained in the assigned folder?

I tried assigning it separately but stupidly enough I'm limited to one folder per partition. The ride never ends but at least I can play muh games
