What extensions will you miss, when Mozilla releases Firefox 57 in November of this year, effectively eliminating nearly 90% of all extensions currently available for Firefox?
>>
None, I haven't used Fx in almost a decade
>>
Won't the developers who maintain those extensions update the files to port them? whatever happens, it doesn't affect me because I haven't updated since FF 46 which runs perfectly with all the extensions I need.
>>
>>61424351
I believe you, because back then they were really pushing people to use "Fx" as a shorthand for Firefox.

what's the problem?
i found this notebook dusted in my place and i was in need of a notebook for college. (HP Compaq 6515b).
4:3 resolution isnt that bad if you're just browsing internet. (1280x800).
Im too dumb to figure out how to acess sadpanda without that, i've aways been using that and it just werks, im not gonna lose my time to find another solution or do it myself.
3 sessions stored here with 29 tabs.
I was just looking at that game, i was really waiting for MGR Revengeance.
Yeah, i'm a hue.

Kys too.

Addons are not exactly one-liners and mozilla's 3 sdks (the middle one they deprecated again before it even hit mainstream) are wildly different. All that shit doesn't port itself you know. The abilities offered by the sdks don't map 1:1 either, a lot of stuff has become impossible.

I ported mine to jetpack when it came around, and I'm not sure actually what they are right now. Mozilla has been incredibly vague and using weird-ass names for everything, I've no fucking clue anymore what my addons are built on now or what all their other shit even is or means. They just make up some new furfag-named project every week and demand everyone accomodate it.

I gave up on firefox because of mozilla's never-ending bullshit and started porting all of my addons to chrome the same day I switched to it. Now the chrome versions are my main things and the firefox ones are legacy. The day they break is the day I stop caring about them. They're on github so people are free to submit patches if they want to.
>>
>>61425716
tl:dr yeah I'm pissed. Mozilla basically pulled every developer's leg for years, fucked over their users with every new firefox release, and did everything they possibly could to just fuck us over. I'm not playing their lose-lose game anymore.

i dont require addons because i like my firefox minimal and secure

every addon extends your attack surface and requires you to stay updated with every individual one

the majority of features implemented these days are already present in nightly

all addons do is modify the about:config which you can apply yourselves

the most used applications or active devs are porting their applications over and the majority are already on the hybrid AI
which allows legacy applications to use multi process

just git gud and have fun

>Rest of the UI is dark on light

>dark on light is OBJECTIVELY superior for comfort and readability
see
>However, most studies have shown that dark characters on a light background are superior to light characters on a dark background (when the refresh rate is fairly high). For example, Bauer and Cavonius (1980) found that participants were 26% more accurate in reading text when they read it with dark characters on a light background.

>>
>>61424417
The problem is that a LOT of the required things for most of the useful addons will be just be plain be not accessible with WebExtensions.

Take DownThemAll! for example; it needs certain things like a file writing API (among other things) to be able to be an actual fully-fledged downloader within Firefox that can do the things it currently does like have target folders for batches of downloads, segmented downloading and the like.

Have you had a look at the "download managers" for chrome lately? that's all Fx57+ (aka, Firecuck) will be capable of, which is basically be a wrapper for the built-in file downloading of Firecuck.

The worst part is Mozilla tells people to let them know what APIs they want to have in Firecuck WebExtensions, but are completely ignoring every request except for the ones that chrome already has, which they were going to do in the first place because their stated goal was feature parity with Chrome extensions.

It's all one massive wagon of bullshit

>>

all i did was point out a key word you accidentally forgot in your quote
>>
>>61434380
Hey, I'm just pointing out that the average Firecuck is a pathetic, feeble little techlet who can't handle even the slightest amount of critique levied against their social justice browser. If that makes you mad enough to start spamming the thread again that's not my fault or my problem. That's on you.
>>
>>61434344
and like i said it was you shitposting the bread and you never provided the "easy" proof
i wonder why
>>
>>61424312
They keep releasing updates like it's the CIA's official email client or some shit, and every update breaks something or has compatibility issues, why would you need to update a fucking browser so fucking much?

It's also getting uglier and more bloated as the numbers go up.

I'd use 3.6 but it's incompatible with most add ons now and I'm afraid of getting hax0red, and 52 is the last version that doesn't fuck up my IDM integration so I'll stop there too.

If another freedom respecting browser with good add on compatibility appears I'd ditch Fireshit and never look back.

>>
>>61424312
I may go back to Chromium... I don't know and I don't understand why they do that...
>>
>>61434399
Except I'm not. I'm just here to point out that Firecucks are easily triggered into spamming threads. Also, I figured at least one of the shitposters would still be assblasted enough to still be obsessively monitoring the thread. Looks like I'm right again, huh? ;^)
>>
>>61424417
>Won't the developers who maintain those extensions update the files to port them?

Pretty much all those developers stopped using shitty Firefox years ago which is why like 90% of extensions will stop working and not be ported, ever. The people left using/shilling firefox aren't smart enough to create replacement extensions so they will probably end up finding a way to make chrome extensions work in firecuck.

Good. A reset on the extensions ecosystem will probably work out for the best in both the short and long terms. It's just going to suck for those of us who have extensions that are most likely going to not be ported or have issues when the switchover finally happens. (i.e. uBO)

Yeah, I'm not so sure about uBO. This is the only think that has me worried. Gorhill has temporarily stopped development on the WebExtension version until such a time as Mozilla finally gets things finalized in such a way that it stops breaking all of his updates. It's probably me being paranoid, as uBO works in Chrome now, but I'm still hoping it gets ported over without issue.

Mozilla being dependent on Google was the mistake in the first place. There's no way the botnet would indefinitely support a project that as objective has (had*) customization and privacy preservation.

In a year Mozilla will announce their merge with the Chromium project and FF will be abandoned completely, screencap this.

I've been worrying about this for a very long time now, but it seems it won't be such a problem after all. Almost all of my add-ons have been or will be ported to webextensions until 57 drops, or already have a webextension alternative.

Open with and DtA are probably dead for good, though, which is very unfortunate. Doesn't seem like their functionalities will ever be available on the new API, which is a shame, but I guess I can understand their reasoning. That's why I'll probably keep a portable 52ESR version forever with just those 2 add-ons for occasional use.

Why the fuck would it?
It's a fucking tab manager.
100% of it can be replicated in shitty HTML, JS and CSS.

There's plenty of tab managers for Chrome as well.
Of course, because that shit cunt Ben, Chrome has no sidebar, so it limits them hugely to either those shit temporary drop-down bubble menus or a semi-permanent pop-up window.

The only sort of things that will die off are those that interact directly with the OS in some way, like file and download managers.
>>
>>61443026
>everything has been disabled because, we, Mozilla, are dumb fucking cunts that can't code for shit

Seriously some of the worst developers in modern software dev.
Those cunts are the reason we also have JS as well, remember.
No fucking surprise there.
Idiots need to go learn what an API is and what its advantages are.
Protip: one of them is transparently changing back-ends so 3rd parties do not need to care about any of those changes breaking things.
It's fucking trivial to keep APIs transparent even with major changes. It's called using defaults values, cunts.
>>
>>61454028

>>
>>61454048
Fuck off cunt, I am a developer.
Mozilla are legit mongs of the developer world.
There's better work out of fucking colleges with the retards coming out of there.

It's not hard to make a new, say, theme, then automatically give default values to the API for add-ons that have no support for it yet.
Same goes for multithreading. It is possible to make a handler for this that makes concurrency transparent to all add-ons.
There's fucking shit block-programming apps on Android that do this shit for crying out loud. It isn't hard.

>>
>>61434499
>reset on the extensions ecosystem will probably work out for the best in both the short and long terms
Except the scope of what the new extensions will be capable off is just the same shit Chrome extensions can do.

The primary reason for Firefox even being around was the fact the extensions can actually do things to the browser itself, not just to the contents of the pages.

Why do you think, after all these years, things like DownThemAll! is still impossible on Chrome?
It's actually a fully-fledged download manager that has a level of integration with Firefox that no other download manager can even remotely touch.

The "Download Managers" on Chrome are just wrappers for the built in downloader and can't actually do things like targeted destination folders for batches of downloads, segmented downloads, an extensive and sortable download queue, etc.

And that's just one example.
>>
>>61453971
Because Mozilla isn't letting extensions change things about the browser itself anymore, UI elements are off-limits.
