Best OS. Literally.
Fuck WinLEL and Lelnux.
Serious question: can you tweak font rendering settings in MacOS? That ridiculous amount of antialiasing that makes regular fonts look bold and bold fonts look black is quite disgusting.
>>61357913

>>61358371
Binary choice of:

>2) don't.
hardly counts as ability to tweak font rendering settings.
So basically, you can't.
>>61357913
>>61358282
How so? macOS isn't able to do pic related (exactly like it looks in the pic that is, proper info for both files and folders to be merged).
Not to mention the way most of the system components are out of date (OpenGL, bash, no vulkan support...).
>>61358504
The fuck do you even know about glyphs you nincompoop?
I studied Typography for 7 years and you're going to tell me about glyphs and font smoothing?
Go kys.
Macs have the best type rendering on the planet for a major OS.
The original 1984 Mac invented desktop publishing and to this day 99.9999% of the design industry uses a Mac for a good reason.

>>61358553
>The fuck do you even know about glyphs you nincompoop?
Quite a lot.
>I studied Typography for 7 years
Don't feel bad, give it another 7 and one day you may finally see how those thick-ass glyphs and tiny inner openings in letters such as "e" look nothing like what font designers intended.
>you're going to tell me about glyphs and font smoothing?
I can also tell you about antialiasing, kerning, subpixel smoothing, pixel snapping and other things, but what's the point if MacOS doesn't let you change them anyway? For a platform that markets itself as "designer friendly", MacOS sure likes to shit on font designers' hard work.
>>61357913
Becuase it has better UI design.
When you spend stupid amounts of money on a mac, you are mostly paying for the research and development of their products - the MVP is the OS.
Also, it's harder to install an Illegal copy of OSX then it is windows - so even less money for MicroShite and more for Crapple.

Yeah no kidding. The "Apple Tax" is the highest it's ever been in recent memory - as in about £1000 more than equivalent Dell hardware when you look at the 15" models. I did come very close to divorcing Apple, but still went with a Macbook in the end. They quality they put into the OS, the integration with other Apple hardware etc is worth a lot it seems.
I'm running OSX, Win 10, Mint, FreeBSD, SteamOS, Win XP, Android, and iOS across the various devices in my home.
OSX is a decent OS let down by the pricing of the hardware it runs on.
>>61369102
I mean if you learn all the keyboard shortcuts its fast as hell. I can fly on macOS, whereas I'm a grandma on Windows. It's all learned skills on any OS, they are what you make them.

>>61369646
>let down by the pricing of the hardware it runs on.
You don't think all those Apple employees that work on software and OS development are free do you? The hardware is the hardware, its not priced any differently than any other laptop. The 'extra' comes from the cost of the OS. Please fucking learn this very, very basic concept.
Because Americans are stupid.
>>61369942
>t. Rankesh on Windows XP
>>61369910
Pedantry, my dude. The OS is okay, the hardware is okay, but the price tag is too high for what you're getting. Whether you pin that increase on the OS or the hardware, the end result is the same.
>>61369975
the hardware is great on the newer MBPs. they're pricier and not the right choice if you're only interested in price/performance but as a laptop, you get what you pay for.

No sadly, the CPUs just don't support newer features that Sierra requires. It's not as simple as making a 32-bit compatible boot-loader as was done for 10.8-10.11. It does run Windows 10 very nicely, and actually supports crossfire with the dual 5770s I have in it.

Everytime I use Linux I have to use really simple, featureless DEs because my 280x can't do dick with anything graphical on it (and this is with both radeonsi and amdgpu). Even emulating old ass games is sluggish. I have distro hopped like a fucking maniac and tried everything I could to get this piece of shit to get -half- the performance I get on something like Windows.
And then I try hackintosh sierra, and it just werks. I have no issues with performance, everything scrolls nicely. Not having to care about tearing shit either.
I'm back in openSUSE trying to figure out still how to get reasonable performance but nah, it's like "buy a new GPU to do the most simple tasks possible".
