How much faster is ddr4 ram than ssd? For example if I had 512gb ram and decided to turn 256gb into storage
>>61303306
you can leleliteraly google this
>>>/g/sqt
It wouldn't be any faster
>>61303369
This.
also enjoy corrupted data after your pc is off for more than 2 weeks
>>61303369
fucking moron
>ssd faster than ram
so?
>>61303306
There is a reason this is NOT DONE.
If the machine is depowered for any reason those 100s of gigabytes of data will be destroyed.
It takes a few minutes to commit them to long term disk storage, making the shifting of this data unacceptably long and often without differential support.
Stuff like ZFS does RAM read caching correctly but RAM disks are a total meme.
>>61303459
Complete lie.
running a ram disk is as fast as it gets around 10x faster or more, you can still save the image, because you're on the northbridge no wear/tear and temp files
>>61305143
Unless they're used for data you want to destroy; say your browser cache : ^)
>>61305929
AKA: Chromium.

RAM disks are useful for security purposes (sometimes). But not for an entire OS, and not for consumer level stuff. That would be retarded.
Significantly.
Unless you are doing tons of writes, the difference would be hard to notice though.
>>61303306
ram is not persistent storage
