Is it actually worth using an SSD for a week or two for initial seeding on a file I upload or will a 5400 RPM drive do more or less the same? I'm not using a seedbox but I do have a 250 Mbps upload connection. Also this is primarily for smaller media (music, ebooks, audiobooks) not movies or TV.

yeah overdrive, just start looking for books with large page numbers and that are graphic intensive. Stuff like encyclopedias, cookbooks, repair manuals, even some poorly optimized children's picture books. I check out/return about 10 books and then just go with the ones with the largest MBs. I usually go for uploading anything 40mb+ .

PDF's dont get grabbed as much, large EPUB's have been more reliable but also harder to find in a larger MB format

Best by far: Ebrary/Eblib aka proquest - this is a massive nonfiction library for students.

This little sucker will tell you what filesize the book is and also everything off it is retail and every university/college has different available books. It's lots and lots of nonfiction and textbooks and there are a lot of people who need books off it (fill requests guys.)

Upload STEM books. That's science, technology (programming and servers especially), engineering (less sure about this category) and medical books.

Bibliotik folks also love philosophical books and literature criticism and whatever highly anticipated fiction novels are coming out - these will be in the anticipated lists on goodreads or requested.

You can get books from libgen and those blogspots.

But pretty much anything gets autosnatched anyway (1-10mb anything, above is mostly retail unless it's what I said above).

Well with tokens you will always make back more than you spend (since you have nothing else better to spend them on). I continued to get 100s of MB days after the initial TM picks were given. It's not really too late as long as you have a seedbox.

Not ideal at all but if it's between that and trying to force yourself to spend your tokens in a few months I'd pick the former.

I'm honestly not 100% sure, but it's better than just letting the tokens go to waste especially if you have nothing you explicitly want right now.
For me, I'd rather add large torrents to my seedbase using the tokens which, if I seed forever, will slowly but surely build me more buffer over time as the site grows.
Not pushing your HDD space/seedbase to its limits is the reason why most people have issues with ratio. They think that if they go below 1.0 that they'll get banned or something.

On private trackers like this, most of the uploads come from a select few people. Not because of a conspiracy but because some people upload a fucking ton—all the TMs etc were racing to get the millionth torrent and had hundreds of uploads queued.
So the guy who uploaded the millionth torrent is an ETM, as an ETM you’d be more likely to end up in one of the secondary user class teams.

protip album farming - sign up to spotify and listen to music → discover weekly/new releases → download albums. Same with lastfm and pandora can also give suggestions. I also use the sharethread on /mu/ but it's very hit and miss. And use the last.fm sharethreads on /mu/ to identify users with similar taste. Good luck finding good albums anon.

Forgot to mention 8tracks and playmoss is also a good idea to quickly get songs autistically by mood or playlists by character. Heard tracks on 8tracks and playmoss feed into lastfm taste recommendations but not spotify due to scrobbling. Scrobbling will only trigger past a certain number of minutes, iirc, so you can thus avoid filling your recommendations with shit by skipping songs.

Answers

1. Lossy source already has quality loss, because it was encoded from lossless source. Encoding to lossy again means loosing quality the second time. Loosing quality multiple tipes is always worse than loosing quality one time. So always encode to lossy only one time. For example, don't do FLAC -> mp3 v0 -> mp3 v2. Just do FLAC -> mp3 v2. You will get better quality and save time.

2. That only increases size, not quality. Encoding is not about making quality better. Filtering is (though that's another story). Encoding is about reducing size and/or changing format of the file. Quality stays the same (lossless encode) or becomes worse (lossy encode).

Some other stuff for the interview:

-webdl is when the the files are officially downloaded from a website, for example i-tunes
-webrip is when the files are unofficially extracted from a website, for example audio from youtube.
-webdl is allowed, webrip is not.
-Spectral analysis is used to determine bad encodes (from lossy source) by looking at high frequencies (if you see high frequencies lower than it have to be - it's bad encode).
-One of the programs for spectral analysis is Audacity.
-Ripping is not the same as encoding. Ripping means extracting audio from a physical device, usually CD.
-Exact Audio Copy is used to rip from CD.

The remaining important things to know from interview prep site are:
-What lossy and lossless formats are allowed on Redacted
-What are the minimum quality conditions for them to be uploaded
-What is .log and .cue
-Trump rules (the visual scheme on the prep site pretty much covers it)

If you learn all this, you won't probably need to cheat.
