Yeah, that looks great on paper until you realize that getting that salary requires bananas of overtime. Granted the OT multipliers and shift differentials look great on paper (especially if you're union), but when you're working something like 7 12's in a labor-intensive job the money just isn't worth it anymore.

Oh, did I mention that the highest-paying jobs usually require you to travel and live out of some hotel room, having a big chunk of your paycheck flushed away on lodging and eating out (since you have no time to cook)?

This is why programming jobs are actually perfect for neets. 30k a year seems meager (and it is), but for a young, single guy who's a shut-in it's pretty much perfect.

From what I've heard and read, though, many entry-level programmers are the incarnation of the wagie -- overworked, underpaid, harangued regularly, all for the profit of their superiors. Not to mention many parts of the industry are plagued with SJW toxicity.
