HD 600: 7.5
>The HD 600 have an average build quality. The open ear cups feel dense enough, to not crack or get damaged by a few falls. However, the headband feels fragile. Also, the metal frame that links the ear cups to the headband is connected by a thin joint that looks weak and feels susceptible to breaking under moderate physical stress.

DT 990 Pro: 8.0
>These headphones have a solid, sturdy build. The headband has a rugged metal frame that can handle a decent amount of physical stress. The open-back ear cups are, unfortunately, made of plastic which makes them less durable compared to the rest of their build, but they are dense enough, to not get damaged from a couple of drops.

Scroll down to "all reviews", which are sorted by critical listening.
HD600 is very close to the top. If it was at the top, it'd mean rtings scoring/weighting is awesome. As it's not but close enough, it's just very good.
>>
>>61264283
>asking about a beyerheadphone while the sennshills are out in full force and shitting themselves
not the best time to ask, but if you'd like to save that little extra cash, the DT990 are great for that price.
>>
>>61264270
I don't recall people using rtings to argue for Sennheiser in these threads. That being said,
>they rate HD800 and HD599 over HD600

I think anyone who isn't intentionally shitposting can agree rtings is fucking retarded.
>>

>>61264251
>keeping in mind the k702 costs 185 and hd 598 230~
If you want the HD598 that badly, look into HD598se. It's the same but black and with an extra cable in the box. Costs less, because HD598 is discontinued and hard to find by now.
As for k702, it's similar in sound, but not anywhere as comfortable.
Right now, it's worth looking at HD599 and HD579, which succeed HD598. They're both considered an improvement in reviews. The HD579 do look somewhat more appealing because in the reviews that include both, HD579 is preferred for critical listening and HD599 for boomy bass. The HD579 looks like much better value too, considering it is sold way cheaper.

EQ your HD800s. Save your money or spend it on something else. You won't buy anything more comfortable or better at imaging than your HD800s. Make wise spending purchases if you wish to remain financially comfortable into your old age. Buying more headphones at this point would not be a wise spending purchase.
>>
>>61264673
Not the guy your taking to, and I'm not apart of this argument whatsoever, however I have owned both and the 60 is clearly the better headphone. The 600 doesn't need an EQ, you can add a tiny bit of sub bass id you fel the need but that's it. The 990 need a lot more, and it doesn't sound as natural. This is pretty much a fact at this point. That said the 990 is a good headphone.

K612 is a good option but needs an amp which will put him over his budget. If he's willing to get an amp and go over budget then yes, that's a great option. Otherwise, HD558 and SHP9500 are also great options.

It's not about sound quality. It literally won't get loud enough without an amp. It might be loud enough for someone who doesn't ever like their music loud when playing content mastered at a high level but there's no way it's going to be loud enough for music/videos mastered at a low level. A cmoy only drives it to 99 dB max and a cmoy is more powerful than an onboard sound. It absolutely needs an amp to be loud enough with all playback files.
>>
>>61268696
It's not nonsense. K612's are legitimately inefficient. Most on-board amps won't push them to a reasonable level.
>>
>>61268696
>125 Ω

>>
>>61268721

They're easier to drive than my HD600. And all but one of my 10 or so devices were able to drive the HD600 to ear splitting volumes, including a 8 year old thinkpad. The meme of an amp being necessary needs to die.
>>
>>61268771
One should always have a source with enough headroom to provide enough volume with sources that are mastered at a low level, like a lot of older music, classical music, jazz, and a lot of videos, especially surround-encoded videos. An onboard sound will absolutely not provide enough volume for this.
Also, you have no fucking idea what you are talking about.

SHP9500 with a BoomPro is a fantastic option. Search Youtube for BoomPro for demonstrations of its sound quality. It's a good mic.
You will sound more distant with a desk mic than you will with a mic right in front of your mouth. A desk mic will also pick up typing vibrations through your desk.
Speaking as a gamer, I can't stand desk mic users. They sound distant and muffled as shit and I can hear their typing very loudly.
>>
>>61268795
Cmoy is a shit source, probably worse than my motherboard audio judging by the measurements.

I stand by what I said, most modern devices will be able to power K612 just fine, unless you have some sort of incontrovertible proof that the K612 will absolutely not function without an amp.
>>
>>61268825
>I stand by what I said
Your opinion has zero merit after you claimed K612 was easier to drive than an HD600, which was subsequently proven to be objectively false. You are wrong. K612 need an amp. Shoo.
>>

It's easier to drive in that it requires less voltage. Some sources are better at current, some are better at voltage.

>>
>>61268650
If you need a mic too I'd absolutely recommend the SHP9500 and BoomPro combo. The HD558 can only take a BoomPro after modification and the K612 can't take a BoomPro at all. Neither the HD558 or the SHP9500 require an amp for adequate volume, whereas the K612 Pro does require an amp.

>Big mistake. The souncard does not have enough oomph to drive the headphones.
A soundcard with a dedicated headphone amp designed to power 600 ohm headphones wasn't able to drive the K612 Pro loud enough for this user. This is because of the K612 Pro's very low sensitivity. A $100 Magni 2 is the bare minimum required to drive a K612 Pro adequately and provide good volume even with sources mastered at a low level. Don't listen to the idiot who incorrectly claimed an HD600 was harder to drive than a K612 Pro.

Can you reliably identify even order harmonic distortion at the levels typically found in a tube amp in a blind test? Have you even done such a blind test? If not, buying a tube amp was a poor decision.
I'm completely OK with people subjectively enjoying the sound of even order harmonic distortion. I get it. It's euphonic. However, tube amps are more costly than solid state amps for the same or worse level of accuracy while also breaking more often. If you can't reliably identify even order harmonic distortion in a blind test then buying a tube amp was completely illogical.

tl;dr What db is a comfortable listening level?

So I've read that I should use ohm's law to find what will drive my headphones to 110 db and buy that.
However looking at google results 110db is fucking dangerously loud so why is that the suggested level?
I'm trying to spend as little on my amp as possible while being able to use my EQ settings(-7db on pre). The price of the amp seems directly related to it's output power so I don't want to buy something that can do 110db if i'll never run the headphones louder than 80 or whatever an actual comfortable listening level is.

Rock concerts are usually at the 105-110 dB level. You want enough power to reach 110 dB because some albums are mixed a lot quieter, like -6 or -8 dB, so if you want to reach 100 dB on those records you need some extra power.

All you need is a 99c clipon mic from ebay or aliexpress for this and it will probably sound better than the modmic

Neither of these will happen, you don't need to shove a mic down your throat to avoid it picking up other noises or having trouble picking up yours

So my headphones sound way better on pc than on phone. I dont use an external amp/dac so is it because of the built in amp/dac is shit in the phone?
Could it be anything else like the files being played from micro sd instead of hdd or maybe the player or do i have to get a small for phone amp/dac?
Is the fiio q1 any good?

It has nothing to do with the modmic himself but the fact that he was able to maintain hobbies from childhood while being able to afford such a luxury item. Kind of like using an IBM mainframe to store your hentai.

The fiio q1 is surprisingly powerful but you may not even need that much output. I strongly suggest something like a dragonfly black(1.2v) or red(2.1v) depending on the headphones. The dac is adequate, it's super easy to just velcro to the back of your phone/leave loose, it's discrete, etc.

It doesn't matter that much where you store files, it matters which type of file is and which quality where they have been mastered

MSR7 and Fidelio X2
>Sound signature
I seek a daily driver combining the tight bass and detail of MSR7 while being as open as my X2s with preference towards a slightly warm signature and slightly elevated bass but not dark nor neutral and as much treble as possible before reaching ear piercing and fatiguing levels over prolonged exposure.

I love both MSR7 and X2 but both are lacking what I want, MSR7 has tight bass and clarity but gets uncomfortable after a while. I dislike the elevated treble around the 1Khz region and cool signature, they don't sound open enough either being a closed set. Bass boost on Fiio E10k improves the sound signature a bit more to my liking.
Fidelio X2 has very wide sound stage which I like and elevated bass whose thump you can feel without sounding dark. The problem I have with X2 is that the bass doesn't sound as clean and fast as the MSR7 nor do the vocals sound as front facing.

Have been tempted to try out a planar pair like the HE400i since that seems to fit my description to a tee despite the cable but I am worried about its ruggedness.

it's an HD650 for $200 that you have to wait for Christmas to get.

if you're in a hurry, then just buy an HD650 because waiting 6 months for $100 is not worth it at all. Otherwise, go for it? It has detachable cables unlike the DT880.

I'm in the UK, the HD 650 is £320 ($412 USD) on Amazon at the moment.

I don't mind waiting as I'm happy with the DT 880. I guess it would be nice to have a pair of bright headphones and a darker/warmer pair. Just worried about the import VAT/tax.

The 600 or 6XX are worth a try for sure, whether or not you keep them or trade them away is personal preference though. If you only have a stock amp from a phone or computer then they will sound pretty underwhelming.

Anyone know if the Phillips Fidelio L1 are compatible with any third party ear pads such as the HM5?
>>
>>61273200
I'm currently using my 880s with a Fulla 2.

Ok, they would sound pretty grand with your setup then.
>>
>>61273189
dunno about the UK but I'm expecting to pay around CAD$45 for a pair. So only around CAD$320 (=250 USD) in total. In comparison, HD650 is CAD$520 (=400 USD) even though I am a couple hours away from the US.

I'd have thought the UK could get any Sennheiser cheaper than North America but I guess not.
>>
>>61273269
>>61273275

On second thoughts, maybe I'll hold off on the 6xx. HD 600 has gone down to £182, HD 650 down to £220 on Amazon UK in the past and when I factor in the import VAT + handling fee the 6xx isn't really that good of a deal any more.

>HD 6xx + shipping = 215 USD/£166.73
>20% import VAT + 1.5% import tax + £8 handling fee
>~£210
>>
>>61272949
The more neutral HD600 is suggested, for contrast with the DT880, which is considerably more vshaped. It's pretty good on current amazon sale too.
>>
>>61273473

It's just bright, the bass isn't boosted
>>
