This thread is for the discussion of NyaaPantsu (pantsu.cat), a free (FOSS) torrent indexer, and other nyaa alternatives.
The aim of this project is to write a fully featured nyaa.se replacement in golang that anyone will be able to deploy locally or remotely.

>Why is Pantsu down/error 502?
Most likely because the team is deploying changes. Wait for a bit and refresh the page. It should be mostly stable now.

Nope, they use nyaa.si/anidex for that. People come to pantsu to find out what was broken this time and how bad things have become since.

There is no "legit" nyaa replacement. Nyaa isn't the owner of neither .si or Pantsu. Unless if you mean legit = giving mod status to the cartel groups.

That's what retarded pantsufags want to believe. But "legit" at least means as stable working, reliable, and commonly used one as nyaa.se was - which is definitely not your lagging half-broken piece of shit made by kids and for autists.

>>
>>61195372
Pantsu is a project that has a lot of contributor with plenty of different skills, few people in there are able to find the cause of problems with scraper / search and fix them, but much more people have the ability to do stuff like css. So when people are calling for css changes, it's not like it'll mean that it'll slow down the developpement of new features / fix of problems. Most importantly, the people that had fucked it up could've fixed it a long time ago but they just left it there and ignored the problem, and it didn't even get rolled back.

I think people are confused about the aim and reach of pantsu and .si
.si is focused on compatibility and user experience (as stated by >>61195161
), while pantsu is focused on philosophy and ethics. When everyone understands this, there will be no further discussion on which tracker is better.
.si will be used by the masses, pantsu will be used by the minority.

Are you retarded? This is just about having a tracker that isn't run by cartel scum. They couldn't pay me to use their site.
>>
>>61196065
You just proved my point.
The whole reason anyone would use pantsu is because they are "anti-cartel".
>>
>>61196101
Your point is incorrect because a site being run by the same exact people that ran .se into the ground is, in fact, a user experience and compatibility issue. Dogshit staff is a quality issue.
>>
>>61196133
>a site being run by the same exact people that ran .se into the ground
That's wrong though.

Pantsu is fine if you don't care if you get episodes at a later time, or only search for older stuff, but if you want the new releases you have to use nyaa.si .
I don't understand why some people are so adamant on defending pantsu as a perfect tracker that they will use ad hominens (hurr durr cartel shill) at anyone who says that nyaa.si has more (new) content and uptime.
>>
>>61196149

That's straight up false anon.
Pantsu had more old and new content because of the scrapers that now work.

That was exactly my point. If you can handle waiting hours longer for a release, pantsu is perfectly fine, however, if you actually watch anime, it's impossible to use.

Register an account on anidb and try it. You could in theory develop something like popcorn time where you select series, then select episode, then get a nice list of release groups.
You'd need the UDP API or the TCP API. The UDP API is enough, but it's rate limited to 1 request every 4 seconds, so it'd take you months to go through your backlog unless they give you some special exception. The TCP API allows you to get an encrypted local copy of the database.
https://wiki.anidb.info/w/UDP_API_Definition#FILE:_Retrieve_File_Data
This is why I want support for byte level precision on individual file level added.
>>
Is there something wrong with the site or the proxy servers? It's taking forever to load.
>>
>>61196687
Yeah I was thinking something like a cross-platform taiga/popcorn time replacement for the local client to encourage users to actually adopt it to increase how many people have a local copy of the db.
I'll ask on their irc later today about using the api.
>>
>>61196702
Site is extremely slow and duplicate hash torrents are still in the db.
>>
>>61196702
How many seeders does the torrent have? Just put up something on the main page about "help back up the database - keep the torrent seeded"
Might help to break it up into pieces too, since an older torrent will never change.

Have you considered bulk importing torrents from rutracker? Their anime section is incredibly well sorted and seeded, and could be used as an alternative source for raws. The subtitles and dubs are in a separate folder. The descriptions could be automatically translated, since they all follow the same template.

What was wrong with .se? Literally no one ever complained or cared about "the cartel" until they've shut down. If I understood correctly le cartel eks dee is just an elitist circlejerk, it's dumb but nothing to get upset about. And nyaa.si even got rid of the whole "A+" system, so you could say they've changed. Also KAT admins were scums as well (doxxing users they didn't like, hacking, running malicious ads), but that probably didn't stop you from using the site.

What I'm trying to say is you shouldn't paint the dead with shit just because they pussied out near the end (although I think a more likely scenario is they got vanned and reached a private settlement) and had a little circlejerk party on their own site with their own friends (and of course, >for free), when the truth is both .si and pantsu are more likely to survive when they coexist, and most autists on /g/ are pulling this (((the cartel))) meme because it's the only time they could ever participate in politics even though it's really fucking nothing at all.

Except this is a blatant lie and the pantsu staff know this and let it go as they are the ones actively hostile to other sites. Pantsu has been in contact with nyaa.si since the start and has active permission from nyaa.si to scrape them, because do you really think nyaa.si couldn't stop them if they wanted? I assure you they can. Go ask ewhal4 about it, though I'm sure he'll just ignore this and you if you ask since they don't like to acknowledge other sites beyond their scraping of them and "lol more content xd", too bad you can barely ever get it as the site is fucking slow as ass.

I really think that coming up with some way to increase the longevity of the torrents should be a much bigger priority. Indexing impressive amounts of content, just to see that 85% is completely dead just sonds depressing to me.
This is specially important to consider before adding things from trackers such as ruTracker, because of the way they work, assuring longevity before availability is really important.
I don't have any idea of how to achieve this atm, though.
>>

I only use pantsu because it has pantsu
>>
>>61197172
Pantsu scrapes from multiple trackers
when it actually works kek
so they will have the most content. Also this >>61199600
Now if only they can clean up the DB for duplicate torrents and have the scrapers constantly working without bugging out, it'll be perfect.

Told you guys you need to have some kind of announcement displayed on the nyaa and sukebei sites.
>>
Why isn't pantsu working?
>>
>>61200130
What happened to redirecting the sites to the status page when it goes down?
Is that still being planned?

Patches welcome (:

are duplicate torrent/comments fixed yet?
>>
>>61200369
No
>>
>>61197289
You could always filter for seeds > 0 | leechers > 0. But rutracker is usually very well seeded on strong connections.
>>
>>61196702
How did it go?

Please review my pull request.
Is there a guide for using git with tor? I don't want to leak my IP by accidentally making some UDP connection or anything like that.
>>
I like the takedown notice archive, but I can't use the actual site, searching just takes me to a 502 Bad Gateway page

He ran the reindexer but went to sleep before swapping the index.
Once he wakes up that'll be fixed.

Is there some plan to remove duplicate hashes?

Or maybe merge them together?
>>

Need to work on the header first, then mascots redesign, then torrent related stuff.

>>61204335
We know about it. We need to clean up the db for duplicate torrent and duplicate comments.

One can easily see this just by judging the current state of pantsu. It's summer vacations though, so no one in his right mind would spend much time on an educational project.

I'm trying to find a recently released VN on sukebei but it's not up yet. It honestly seems like the only people uploading stuff are the nips.

>American flag is the flag for the English language
Tip top kek
>>
>>61205974
Language flag should always be from the country of origin, seems pretty retarded other way.
>>
>>61205974
>>61207075
English flag should be US/UK split down the corners desu.

We wiil be having another upgrade, this time we will upgrade the disk to an SSD since it seems to be the reason of the site being extremely slow. I have update the status to when its more or less expected to happen.

It was before we migrated to the new server, however it was a quite shitty one, it did however "manage" to handle it for a while so i thought the HDD would handle it as well, seems like it doesn't so we are going to upgrade to make sure it can be as smooth and possible.
>>
>>61201409
They seem to be pretty happy to let us use the api as long as we have heavy caching.
>>61200369
Not yet.

There should be 3 English flags used for different purposes:
- US for liberal, localized subs or subs without the honorifics
- UK for high quality subs
- AUS for meme subs (aka "banter")

when is dev gonna be up again
when will refactor / second-batch be on dev
i can't do anything until both happen
>>
>>61207614
Soon and once second-batch is merged into the refactor branch.
The codebase is a lot more sane now.
Still need to add in proper caching and minification of assets though.
>>
>>61207650
when is soon
>>
>>61207723
Hopefully within a couple of days.
>>
>>61207650
Minification can just be done "the good old fashioned way", minify it and save it as x.min.css in the same folder and then change all the links. No need to use fancy plugins for it. Can't nginx cache stuff for you?

Sorry if this is already answered, but why does Sukebei give 502 errors when trying to search? I read the FAQ entry that it may mean upgrades are being done but I've tried multiple times across the past few weeks and it has worked maybe once before 502 again. Nyaa works just fine.
