been seeing a lot of "Hackintosh" talk on /g/. I just want to clarify something. if your computer isn't actually an Apple, but rather a blue collar, red state wal mart piece of shit with cigarette ashes in the keyboard, designed with zero consideration for ergonomics or aesthetics, wheezing loudly, clicking away... just a hideous piece of trash made to play online poker freerolls.

in short, using the mac os on something that *isn't* a mac isn't real. it's like going to the sistine chapel with a ten gallon hat on. going to a prince concert with earmuffs. getting fucked in the ass by a guy who is wearing a condom. you just don't get it, please quit posting your 16:9 nascar screenshot bullshit on this site. thanks

Oh grow up.

OS X is basically a designated VM guest now. It doesn't even deserve hardware to run on, not a macbook, not a thinkpad, nothing you have to physically interface with. It can build xcode apps in it's little vm, that's it. If things break, scratch and reimage, it's not even worth the time to fix an OS X installation.

Windows in VM too but it plays games so that's another story

I am a photographer and I was interested in buying a Mac so I went to take a look at their website.
Now, an odd thing happened, their website actually put me off buying one of their products.
It's full of nice design aspects, sure, but it's not got much of anything else, no actual facts or figures. It's like it's been made with people who don't care a damn about the inside or technical spec of their computer, they just want something shiny.

I may be a homosexual but I am NOT a faggot and I was very put off by the presentation of the store, pictures of "Hipsters" smiling with their ipods like they are on some sort of morphine drip and the website boasting that with a mac you can easily connect to wireless networks, worded in such a way as to imply that any other system may have trouble with wireless.

Technically I have no problem with the Mac and I was happy to buy one but I saw that and I thought "Sorry, I like to think for myself".

I have nothing against the hardware or software of the machines, but DAMN does whoever designed that website need a slap.

Anyone else feel the same way?
>>
Friendly reminder to ignore cancerous tripfags if you want them to go away.
>>
>>61120031
Think about it this way. To your lowest common denominator apple asslicker that website is genius because it's easy to digest.

To any professional even considering an apple product it's bad, but that makes up about 5% of people who buy apple to be real.

Most professionals are moving away from apple for this reason. The outdated hardware and OS limitations make it incompatible with professional use.
>>
>>61118395
Mac hardware isn't made by apple. They just make the case. You can literally get all other components yourself.
>>
>all the serious replies in this thread
>>
>>61120031
>no actual facts or figures
https://www.apple.com/macbook/specs/
What is missing? At best they could've point out the CPU generation. Rest is perfectly sufficient, hell almost too vague for people who don't care. They use one of the fastests NVMe SSDs on the market and simply call it PCI SSD.

>Anyone else feel the same way?
The websites of all big companies are full of shit, and often full of lies too. Almost no Windows laptop reaches the advertises battery life in normal use, for example, while Applels stuff does.

Let's compare it with Dell.
http://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/productdetails/xps-13-9360-laptop
You have to scroll much more and open up menus to get the same information and outside of display brightness, there is nothing relevant. Also tons of bloat and it's not obvious that you can upgrade the screen to non shit.

Not bringing meaningless data on the forefront and focusing on what makes their products stand out is pretty intelligent and way more helpful for undecided buyers. People who knows their shit, don't expect to get the information they need on a side for customers.

OS X sucks, Linux sucks, all operating systems suck. Windows doesn't qualify as an operating system but it still sucks.

Whatever man. Look, if you have to choose one among OS X, Windows and Linux as a VM host to run the other two in VM's, the choice would be obvious.
>>
>>61122113
>>61122158
>>
>>61122113
Laptops aren't worth it, agreed.

>>61122158
Depends entirely on uses/needs, I'm rarely running VM's but I need Creative Cloud and Sketch so OS X makes a lot of sense when I don't have my MBP.
>>
>>61122158
>all operating systems suck
Well, it's not a wrong statement but not very productive way to see things either.

>Look, if you have to choose one among OS X, Windows and Linux as a VM host to run the other two in VM's, the choice would be obvious.
The gaymer would go with Windows, anybody else who needs commercial software with MacOS. Unless you really, really need/want the freedom of Linux, and most people don't, it wouldn't be a very common choice. As their market share suggests.
>>
>>61121950
>>61122158

"""macOS""" """Sierra""" can't into poll() in 2016 and Windows crashes 15 times a minute.
>>
>>61122253
>Unless you really, really need/want the freedom of Linux
It's not about the freedom. If you're not on something like xen, then when the host goes down, guests go down. You would want a host that doesn't bluescreen with a smiley, or change the cursor to a braindead spinning lollipop when vlc rebuilds font cache.
>>
>>61118395
I think Steve Jobs would agree that a hackintosh is perfect for the abomination that MacOS has become.
>>
>>61122414
In general use it's still pretty rare unless you actively try to break something. Besides an OS is made or killed by the software for it and open sores alternatives aren't good enough for most people, while running crucial software in VM is annoying. Pretty sure most graphic designers or office drones would prefer PS/Office and beachball of death over Gimp/LO and lack of beachball.

Most serious desktop hackintoshers don't bother with prebuilt trash, they build their own towers. When you're doing that, you can select high end components and put extra effort into things like making your case clean and building it to be whisper quiet. If you do that, you get a Mac that trades off just a little bit of form factor sexiness for a ton of power and flexibility.

The exception are laptop hackintoshers, which in my eyes, are a little misguided. You can't control the hardware nearly as much when hackintoshing laptops, which means that 9 times out of 10 the experience is going to be seriously subpar in one way or another. If you want macOS on a laptop but don't want to break the bank, buy a used machine or a refurb.

If you're trying to hackintosh some $250 walmart piece of shit (regardless of form factor) you really shouldn't bother. A low resource Linux distro or BSD or something is a better bet.

guys, the Mac OS is designed for specific hardware. OP is essentially correct: running mac os on your homemade lego rig is like drinking fine wine out of a utilitarian vessel with a silly straw, but with the hardware the os is fine tuned to use optimally, it is like drinking a great wine from a proper glass that offers aeration and enhances the flavor (and looks nice). Personally, I use the Vinum Excel,,, which was originally developed to compliment Oregon Pinot Noir.

>>61139172
Some people like how the macOS desktop works, with its window management, various conventions, shortcuts, etc. It's all in the fine grain: Windows and macOS are, at the most basic level, commercial desktop operating systems but if you look more closely they do a lot of things differently.

Could also be that macOS is one of the few platforms where third-party developers have some semblance of agreement on how to do their UIs and that is to NOT reinvent the wheel, make it feel like it came with the OS, and take advantage of as many of system's conventions and "free" perks as possible.

As an example, all native Cocoa apps get full spell check/grammar/dictionary/text replacement in their text fields for free and configurable by the user on a systemwide basis. On other platforms it's up to third party devs to provide that, and if they even bother doing so everybody has separate implementations, each with quirks and varying levels of configurability.
