>Assemble your parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>How to assemble a PC, select components & more (kind of outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

If you want help:
>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA).
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate.
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?

CPUs:
>G4560 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R5 1400 - if you can't afford better or specifically need 8 threads but not a very powerful CPU
>R5 1500x - Buy the 1600 instead
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; Get a 1600x if you don't OC
>i7-7700k - Only for 144hz
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/mixed use; Not required for just gaming.

GPUs:
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>RX 560 and GTX 1050Ti - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games
>RX570 - 1080p@60hz at high, running most maxed older games at 144+hz.
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@60hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; Go for the RX580 if you can.
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@144hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p.
>GTX 1080 Ti - 1440p@144 hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games; You're kind of going overboard with this one.
>AMD GPUs are suffering a lack of stock and Nvidia a rise in price thanks to miners

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen benefits from high speed RAM

General:
>ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
>Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
>NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
>The Ryzen lineup comes with exceptionally good stock coolers. (with the exception of the 1600X) consider using them over any sub 35USD cooler.

Can we ban amd for gaming? There's games that it can't run 30fps on, so why recommend it for gaming? For /g/ related I get it it, but gaming? Come on.

>>61105880
This is true.
Even if you SSD only, have 1000rpm silent fans, the PSU will always make crazy noise and ruin your ambient noise anyway.
>>
>>61105923
The Fractal R5 has fan speed controllers into the case, so you can ensure that the case fans aren't constantly running at full speed. Check if your case has one and your fans are plugged into it, otherwise set a custom fan curve for your case fans into the bios
>>
>>61105899
>I need a raid card recommendation.
You don't need a RAID card]
HBA and software RAID is all you need (and is usually better to recover from if something happens to the RAID controller's firmware, hardware RAID is almost unrecoverable if the RAID controller dies mid-write)
>>

>There's so many popular games that are "unoptimized", and never get benchmarked for amd.

HBA card, preferably one that uses SAS ports on a PCIe 2.0 8x or higher rather than SATA3 ports on a PCIe 2.0 4x or lower
>is there a difference?
Yes, massively. SAS controllers are much more robust and can handle multiple read/writes simultaneous to a single drive, let alone multiple ports connected to multiple drives. SATA controllers are cheap crap that disconnect when they thermal throttle (which happens all the time unless you tape some heatsinks on them) and the PCIe 4x or lower interface is barely fast enough to handle thee SATA SSDs.

I have r7 1800x Arma 3 @4k is 120fps. Very much more than my monitor can handle my friend.

For Digital Combat Simulator I have the same 120fps.

Falcon BMS it is very high buttery smooth fps @ 4k display.

Many issues have been solved with latest bios updates married with fast ram on motherboards QVL.

The low FPS is just no longer true my friend. My productivity does not suffer at all while being able to play all games. This is not true with Intel.

Roughly how much percentage of a budget should go towards aesthetics as a poorfag? I just want to make it look qt, but can't afford some of these hundred+ dollarino cases

Also, I'm used to using a hard drive, and don't care for loading times, as nothing I do is life-or-death-situation, and it gives me time to walk out and pop the kettle on in the morning. Would I really benefit much with an SSD realistically? I don't do anything like photo/video editing/rendering, so I won't need it as a form of scratch disk.

0%. On a tight budget you have to focus on performance/functionality. There are cases like the CM N200 or Fractal Design Focus G that are not that expensive, look good and offers something for their money.
Both have two 120mm fans, dust filters, decent looks and decent cable management and both are under 50 bucks.

If you want the absolute best, a 3200MHz CL14 kit is best for Ryzen. It's quite picky about which sticks it'll run at higher speeds, and Samsung B-die ICs are what it likes. Any CL14 3200MHz kit will be those. The downside is that they're more expensive.

Otherwise just buy any 3000MHz kit. It should run fine at 2933MHz.

Things will get better by this November. If you invested $1000 this winter with about a 30% growth from AMD, Nvidia, and housing-related companies, you would now have about $1300 to spend on a computer. By November, that could be as much as $2000.

>>
>>61107999
Because you're dumb. You might have an opportunity to buy coming up real soon (as soon as AMD's Q2 results come in, which will not be as good as hype-train riders want it to be), where the prices might take another dump down to the $12 level. I think the price will stabilize at $13.20-13.75 until then. AMD won't feel the impact of EPYC until Q1 next year, nor will they be having dividends before then. Once 2018 hits, I expect shares to trade at about $20.

But honestly, Nvidia's stock has been way outperforming AMD's in the last few months. I actually regret throwing money into AMD's hype train when Nvidia rose higher by about 7% in the same 5 month period.

going from a harddrive (decent harddrives might even exceed 200mbps, even 5400rpm green drives have speeds >100mbps) to even a shitty 250mbps ssd makes a world of difference because there is no seek time on ssds so reading lots of small files all over the disk, or reading multiple files at once, has no inherent performance penalty

however, going from an average (nowadays) 500mbps sata ssd to, say, a 2,000mbps nvme ssd, makes very little difference in situations where you're also constrained by memory performance, cpu speed, etc, like (in some cases) loading a game or loading an operating system, the situations where it will make a difference is where you're reading and/or (but usually and) writing a lot of data such as running multiple vms, doing a lot of disk heavy tasks in photoshop/video editing software or similar, etc

tl;dr you can put your games on the nvme ssd if you want but don't expect a hugely noticeable loading speed improvement, some games will obviously be better but a few seconds here isn't going to be comparable to the 30-60 seconds you gain (in some games) from switching to a ssd for the first time

>Would I be better off just doing 1 front, 1 bottom, 1 rear?
You'd be better off doing 2 front 1 bottom as you wouldn't get as much air with the bottom one (unless the hard drives are in the way?)
When more air gets in than out the excess air will get pushed out in the nearest available hole effectively preventing cold air to reach your components
And hot air bubbles can also happen but fuck if i know how exactly, but it did happen for me and i could very well feel it waving my hand around the case, hot air getting trapped in some random places and not getting pushed out. Don't put 3x intake 1x exhaust and you'll be fine, i personally always have minimum half the amount of exhaust than intake and it works out pretty well.

Don't want to sound like a shill but if you care about noise get a more powerful one. EVGA PSU's (and most good PSU's to be fair) will run passively until they are under load. If it were me I'd save some money on your case and get a 750W or 800W or something.

That's why I asked. I always see Lambo/Ferrari-inspired cases that try to mimic the interior, but they're shit to interact with. I'd rather have my hands resting on brushed aluminum buttons with soft LED lighting behind them on a polished (but not glossy) oiled wood panel. Leather might be a little too much, but for a full-tower, it might make the difference between banging your knees against something hard or feeling cushioned leather in its place.
But leather produces quite a bit of dust, so synthetic leather would have to be used, or other polymer-based leather substitutes like alcantara.

Becsaise the perf/dollar of ryzen is better in every way EXCEPTING autism levels of framerate, usually above 144Hz.

Ryzen is better in every other option and if the i7 gices you 144Hz, Ryzen will give you 120-130. So even there it's not behind by much.

Not all components are created equally. They should (unless the are broken) all run perfectly well at their default voltages and clocks, but not all parts will overclock as well as eachother. Take ten 7700K's and maybe only three of them will do 5.1GHz at temperatures and voltages that are acceptable.

Hello friends, I'm looking to build a budget system.

I have a few questions:

1) CPU, I was thinking about the i5-7600k, is the 7600k "enough" for gaming and light stream watching. I love playing on one monitor and watching streams / browsing on the other while I do it. Should I look into AMD CPUs or is the i5 fine?

2) I was thinking about 1060. Im not sure if its worth for me to go for an 1070, it's mostly going to be for gaming, and I'm looking for hardware that can hold some FPS in full screen windowed mode, because after getting 2 monitors a couple of years ago I can't stop doing other shit while I game. Should I be looking at the AMD alternatives here also?

i was thinking something like this:

1. If all you care about is gaming, don't go Ryzen, check the benchmarks yourself. But yes a 7600K is more than plenty for gaming.

2. If budget allows always buy the better GPU, you'll only end up disappointed otherwise. You'll struggle to find AMD offers in stock an the moment due to crypto miners.

>I was thinking something like this
Looks pretty much all good, good PSU, good memory, cooler is sensible etc. might want to consider a bigger SSD though if budget allows. Also not sure what prices are like where you live, but if the Asus Strix or Gigabyte Aorus are around the same price I'd go for those coolers instead, they are the best you can get.

>>61109532
PSU is shit, and check 7700K vs Ryzen first. If you want/need a lot more performance in productivity and don't mind a 10-35% drop in gaming performance go with Ryzen, otherwise go 7700K.

It depends on the game. If you are playing on with a CPU demanding game then you will take a performance hit by doing anything else, such as streaming. 7600k is probably enough, but I would recommend a 1600 just to be safe. Save some money on the cooler as well, Wraith Spire is great.

>2) I was thinking about 1060. What resolution are the monitors and what refresh rate? The only AMD solution right now is an RX580, which you won't be getting your hands on for good value anytime soon.

Get a better PSU, like an S12II, Seasonic G, EVGA G2/G3. 1060 isn't really good value all things considered, but it's the only mid-range card you can get right now. That build is just dying for Ryzen.

>1) CPU
i5 is waste of money, amd is better. BUT you have very comfortable budget for i7. I highly recommend going for that. Just take 8GB of ram instead of 16GB. BAM +$60 gets you to $290 budget for CPU

now take GIGABYTE GA-Z270M-D3H instead of shitty MSI, and you have extra $30 so now you have $320 which leaves you $20 short of 7700k

alternative is not going for OC, taking i7-7700 and also not needing overclocking mobo and so B250 chipset... you save even money...

so yeah, i7
and as for heatsink, would recommend going for cryorig H7 very good, very quiet, lower

and also with all this, would recommend microATX case, instead of ATX. You can choose from many. I am partial to Enthoo Evolv ATX

you are overpaying for PSU a bit

thanks for all the feedback, in terms of overclocking i would like to avoid that as much as possible because i have 0 experience, and i'd rather have my components just last longer

this might be a dumb question, but is there a difference between the "k" and non "k" versions of the intel CPUs, im not looking to overclock at all. Also bonus dumb quesiton: When the GPUs are "OC", does that impact their life time or whatever, or is it just overclocked from the manufacturer to get higher performance?

>K series CPU and aftermarket cooler

You're doing it wrong son. No, there's no difference between a K and non-K other than overclocking. Also, don't be a bitch, what's Intel's warranty period, like three years? Overclock that shit and if it dies in a year who gives a fuck Intel is the one paying out. For most architectures you can find online what the safe 24/7 max voltage is, and then what the "safe" (as in, don't go above this you maniac) voltage is. Staying under the safe max voltage is pretty much 100% safe, you won't get anywhere near "safe" on air cooling.

People get way too paranoid about overclocking, there are way too many safeguards in place these days so you can't really damage shit unless you're a total retard.

>in terms of overclocking i would like to avoid that as much as possible

Then you can save some money

take i7-7700, notice the lack of "k", it does not OC, its $35 cheaper and comes with heatsink. Though I would still recommend getting H7

motherboard is also not needed OC and you can take GIGABYTE GA-B250M-Gaming 3

saved money put in to taking better SSD - samsung 960 that goes in to m.2 slot on the mobo

>this might be a dumb question, but is there a difference between the "k" and non "k" versions of the intel CPUs

just if they can be OCed or not

>Also bonus dumb quesiton: When the GPUs are "OC", does that impact their life time or whateve

yes, by the nature of higher voltage - higher temperatures. But OCing is about finding that extra that you can do without really perceivably affecting lifetime. Think of it that it does affect it, but in sense of lasting 30 years instead of 40 if left running... CPUs and GPUs themselves rarely are the components that fail...

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9mRFf7/intel-core-i7-7700-36ghz-quad-core-processor-bx80677i77700

The "k" version is 4.2 ghz and the non-k version is 3.6. Is the 4.2 ghz the amount it can get overclocked to, or is that the base speed?

Would it be dumb to buy a ix-7xxk with no intentions of OC'ing ever?

What sort of streaming are you talking about? I don't get it, streaming isn't intensive at all. I can watch 1080p streams on a shitty 7 year old dual-core i7 ThinkPad just fine, a 7600K, or literally any other modern CPU, will do video streaming in it's sleep.

Because I have a special status as a single-person micro-company that exempts me from any form of VAT.

>>

That is talked by people from the past
I said same thing, years ago, we are no longer in 2013, 4 cores and 8 threads is becomming essential for gaming

its AMD road in that price range that I would recommend with 1600x and 6 cores 12 threads...
buying i5 makes absolutely no sense

but take it like this, CPU is one of the longest serving components in a PC, you can change gpu 3 times in 3-4 years and a good CPU wont limit you much.

its similarly for monitor.. monitor is also seldom changed.

Doesn't exist. A 7700K at 5GHz, or any processor for that matter, won't do 1080/60 in badly optimised games or recent very demanding ones.

Other than that, it looks pretty solid. If you want to save like 70 quid, the 1080Ti Aorus looks gayer but has a cooler within margin of error as good and I think a year longer warranty. I've got one and it's no louder than a 120mm case fan at 800rpm, even at 2000MHz.

Totally fine. I used to run an OC'd 980Ti (probably draws like 100W more than a 570) and a OC'd CPU on a 520W PSU and it worked fine.

More important is what the actual PSU is, is it a piece of shit that claims to be a 550W PSU, or is it an actual 550W PSU?
>>
>>61110323
Looking around at the neighboring countries I see some from 313 to 319 which is still better than the 329 I get locally. Thanks for the tip I'll look around
>>
>>61110388
>i'll consider the aorus instead, thanks for the tip
Also yeah like the other guy said you might want a better PSU, not that that one is bad, but if it were me I'd take the money saved by going Strix to Aorus and get a EVGA G2 850W or something. Not that what you've picked out is dogshit, but you might find it'll be louder than the GPU, which would be a shame, assuming you care about noise.

Hey /g, this is my first build, came over from /pol

Im sick of having a slow pc, and i want to get into gaming.
I want to at least play 1080p games from now or a little behind at 50-70 frames
I have a budget of 550 pounds and i just need some advice please.
Thank you in advance
>>
>>61110463
yeah, I buy nothing but seasonic
>>
>>61110284
there are limits to how strong they can emit, but not to a repeater? or is the point of the repeater to have a better position?

>>61110286

>>
>>61110470
Forgot to say, I already have a HDD hanging around, and ill get an SSD soon.
I also already have a good mouse and keyboard as well as a monitor.

I was also considering getting a second hand case and gpu, not sure yet
>>
>>61110493
>there are limits to how strong they can emit, but not to a repeater? or is the point of the repeater to have a better position?
Yeah the repeater you can put in between your router and the place where you want to get wifi.
It'll connect to the router and re-emit the signal.

I wouldn't bother with a second hand case. You could get a GTX 970 on eBay for about 150 quid on eBay which would be quite a bit faster, like 30-40% faster. Your choice really. If you're open to used you could even just pick up a used 3570K for like 75 quid and a motherboard for like 50, total cost would be 125 instead of 240, it would shit on a 6500 in terms of performance and allow you to get 16GB of RAM in budget.

>>61110470
If you're buying new this is pretty good, the PSU is garbage though, get something by 80+ certified by Seasonic or Silverstone in that pricerange.

My experience is you wont get a high-end Nvidia card that doesn't coil whine. Ever since the 600 series, every one I've had regardless of the manufacturer has sounded like a chainsaw when under load.

Only a small sample size though.

Which version of Windows 10 was it that let you turn off all the stupid stuff like automatic updates and so forth?

I know it's Windows 10 but dammit it's the only way to play games on a PC.
>>
>>61110717
If you have a desktop, and you can't run some cables or just move the router next to the desktop, then yeah either a big ass antenna or a repeater should work.

The problem with both of those is that Wifi is much more unstable than wired, especially when you're almost out of range and you have to use repeaters or massive antennas.
Expect low speeds and signal loss whenever you power on your microwave.

Dunno how to include SSD but Crucial SSD CT525MX300SSD1 525GB MX300 2.5inch 7mm

Computer salesman sent me this for a high end custom. It fits my budget ($2600 CAD) but I noticed it doesn't have a cooling system.

Also the case is actually the 505 but it's not on the part picker site.

Anywho does this look like a good setup? Do I really need 32gb of RAM, or can I save some money by only getting 16gb. This is for max settings on some modern games and I see people saying only get 32gb if your worried about long term future proofing.
>>
>>61110738
There's no such thing.
The Entreprise edition lets you disable some stuff.
The LTSB edition goes even further and removes most of the bullshit (no ads, no cortana, no forced stuff).
Except it's impossible to get your hands on the LTSB, and even it is still doing some shit behind your back and communicating with MS servers even when you disabled everything, according to researchers.

>It cant be? ive seen so many people do it
Sorry misread. Thought you had to buy everything including peripherals and monitor, that would have been impossible unless you buy used.
Since you only need the PC here's a template you can use: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/snQLNN
Core is Ryzen 5 1600 on the MSI gaymen pro, together with 8gb LPX3000 it gives you this red meme theme. You can swap the mobo for the slightly better ASRock Pro4M.
For the GPU the 1050Ti is the best choice right now. The Zotac is fast with 1300MHz and suprisingly the cheapest. It's likely it will run very hot and loud though.
PSU is basic bronze, nothing special but nothing bad either. A cheap Seasonic G 550W or similar woulb be ideal, but is out of your budget and the Case has dust filters and comes with two 120mm fans.
>>
>>61110636
Do not get MSI unless you want to have a bad RMA expierence. Dealing with this shithead manager Henry will be the worst phone call you'll ever have. MSI only have one facility in California that handles everything and the was they treat their RMAs is shit.

>>
>>61110885

Shit is faster than a 7970, it's plenty for 1080p ultra in all but the most demanding modern games.
>>
>>61110892
Hey man really appreciate this, so i already have a case and a HDD so taking away the 50 from that, what should it be spent on, a gpu?
>>
>>61110928
It's a current-gen card, so obviously it's far from outdated, but it is still entry level.

I'm not saying it's a slow or bad card, but it's not a future-proof card, and in fact you can't run that much stuff in Ultra unless you tolerate low FPS
>>
>>61110958
>what should it be spent on, a gpu?
Ideally yes but considering how devestated the market currently is due to those fucking autistic mining faggots those 50 bucks won't take you anywhere.
RX and GTX1060 cards are very likely sold out or ridiculously overpriced, so that's not an option. I say invest that money into a better PSU and mobo.
Is your case ATX by any chance? You could then buy a better ATX mobo and how many fans does your case have? Two are ok, three is sweat spot.
See this for example: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/p8MyNN
PSU is top notch, probably overkill for your purpose. A cheaper alternative is the Super Flower Golden Green HX.
>>
>>61110767
That's gonna lose support in a few years, unfortunately. I like having something I know will have some support.

I'd like to try some DX12 games, at least.

>>61110812
Whichever version lets me turn off at least some of the stuff that would get annoying will be fine.
I was thinking of a dual-boot system with maybe LinuxMint or Ubuntu or some other kind of babbys first Linux OS.

Impossible to get hands on the LTSB? First I heard of this.
I'll take what I can get though.
>>
>>61110798
Looks shit
$368 for a 6 cores CPU when you can get a similarly performing R5 1600 at $200 is stupid
wow $200 motherboard, why?
You certainly do not need 32GB either
Slow as fuck hard drive, get a 2TB from Toshiba, Seagate or Hitachi. WD don't make 2TB caviar blue as far as i know, and their 2TB blue are all 5400rpm. Get a 7200rpm recent hard drives, they're like $65~
A GTX 1080 won't reach 165hz at 1440p, luckily the money saved on the CPU will allow you to up to a Ti. And don't get a blower-style cooler, it's noisy and hot.
Do you really need to buy windows?
>>
>>61111102
>Impossible to get hands on the LTSB? First I heard of this.
Yeah MS doesn't want people actually using it, because it's as close as it gets to a non-spyware version of Windows 10.
There's no Store, no Cortana, a classic start menu, no Edge, and most things can be disabled.

Except you don't get the option to Install it unless you own a LTSB iso.

>LTSB is not intended for deployment on most or all the PCs in an organization; it should be used only for special-purpose devices. As a general guideline, a PC with Microsoft Office installed is a general-purpose device, typically used by an information worker, and therefore it is better suited for the [Current Branch] or [Current Branch for Business] servicing branch.
>>

this is true but you can just pirate it

>>61111221

>>
>>61111220
>so the 1050ti it is
Yes. If you find a few bucks you could upgrade to a better 1050Ti with better OC and or better HSF for better temps and less noise, but that's not so important.
>its an atx midtower i think, its pretty big.
Better check that and if it is get an ATX mobo, they are overall better. In case you care, the Gaybyte Gaming 3 has ALC1220 sound which only 3 B350 mobos have, that's a X370 feature.

Same issue, do check QVL AND forums for possible RAM issues. Yes this is a massive pain in the ass but you don't want to be stuck at 2133. Mobo itself is fine.
>i don't mind 30 for a minor upgrade
Then upgrade the PSU to Super Flower Golden Green HX or EVGA G3, the XFX is fine but the others, especially the G3 is so much better.
Not really sure about the case, i personally don't like it but if you do it's okay. A friend made a build with this case, he said it was shit to build in it but once your done it doesn't matter anymore.

Corsair LPX 3000 CL15 and G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200 CL16 are usually options that work at least at 2667.
Always search for the SKU like for the Ripjaws F4-3200C16D-16GVKB. Note that the B in GVKB means black, there's also the Red GVKR, i think you get the idea.
If you don't want to risk anything i suggest you go trough all QVLs and pick the mobo according to the RAM since all B350 mobos are fairly similar and you won't lose anything other than the ALC1220 sound chip.
