Windows users can quickly search from within a file dialog window.
Baby steps anon. Linux is still working on getting thumbnail preview to work in Firefox's file picker.
everything triggers them because basic tasks are non existent.

Does linux have the option for huge thumbnails like windows does?

You opened your file manager, RETARD. You just made my point.
You can't search from the open/save DIALOG WINDOW.
>>61083707
Bait.
Why is free software always playing catch-up with proprietary software?

Get a load of dis edgy faggot here
>>61083720
That's got way too much shit
Can you remove the right side entirely and slim down the top so there's more space for what you actually want to look at?
>>61083724
I did't even
i used goggle open/save webzdialog
This is the generous list of file attributes you can easily choose to be shown in the Windows Explorer details view, since at least Windows XP, launched before most people browsing /g/ right now were even more.
On Linux - even on KDE, which at least has thumbnails, you can't even list and sort by basic attributes like video resolution or audio bitrate, which makes it utterly useless for anybody attempting to do any sort of work or even hobby that isn't programming or server-oriented.

only on some systems, pic related
That is with patched gtk2, qt already has thumbnails

gtk3 already does this, start typing and it will search for files
i dont know why you would even want to if you can just find . -iname *whatever* or locate xxxx | grep -i whatever

Seriously dude, I prefer using find in mingw than using this piece of shit search feature in Explorer. It's unacceptably slow.
>>61083738
Developers only write open source to build their resume. Once they get a job making proprietary software they will abandon they're projects. It also doesn't help that most people who shill for free software are just hobbyists.

Honestly the explorer interface is one of the few really nice things about Windows, provided you have the ribbon shit minimized on 8+. I've not seen a single OS with a more functional/better looking graphical file explorer.
>>61083693
>>61085266
No, not this. He put the path between the -name parameter and the name pattern. If you're gonna try to outsmart OP, at least get the basics down.
sudo ls -R / | grep "mysearchterm"
what now microshits

Non-Windows users doesn't misplace their files.

Windows search is a slow piece of shit and everyone installs a third party application to search for files if they do it more than once a year.

GTK filepicker search with icon thumbnail preview.

search actually works
but it's the lack of thumbnail grid view and lack of "right click - Open with ... " that really grinds my gears.
Linux users can do that too

>gtk3 already does this, start typing and it will search for files
is it a way to change to the old behaviour?
it is fucking annoying if I just want to jump down to the letter h and scroll around, possibly to nearby files starting with other letters
not to mention it searches in subdirectories too

Reasons to use windows over GNU/Linux:
- Thumbnails
Yes, faggots, you can search in open/save dialog.
>>61083656
This and it annoys me that I can't quickly drag and drop a file in every dialog window or rename them with the slow double click

i wish i could use KDE for "glorious filepicker"
but literally everything else about KDE is turning me off
>>61095051
What exactly? You can hide a lot of the panels or enable optional ones in the core KDE apps if they look bloated. You also get nifty stuff like an embedded terminal emulators in the file manager and text editor that's aware of where you are, since all the KDE apps are aware of and can call each other.
The layout is absolutely fixable since everything on the desktop including the panels is a movable plasmoid. There's no obstacle to having a Unity or Gnome 3 ersatz.
