Anyway, macs have been on a constant decline ever since steve jobs died. How do I know that? I've owned a 2013 and 2015 macbook pro. Both sold on ebay and eventually lead me to get a 2017 xps 15 with the quad-core i7 and gtx 1050 gpu.

I have to honestly say, after clinging on to macbook pros for so long, they're not worth it anymore. Too many dongles, overheating, and terrible software support.

You're right, if that is something like your home desk or office cubicle.
It's more of a problem if you travel around with it.
Choice of dongles to bring. Needing to change out a dongle for another one because you need more ports available. Chaining dongles (even in your pic there's a USB Ethernet dongle in the dongle).

But then some other laptop manufacturers have these things called "docks" which you can put on your desk to increase expansion that you just put the laptop on instead of having to plug things into it.

the trackpad F* keys were removed which sucks. However, the regular macbook is less than a pound in weight and runs beautiful. I dual boot (bootcamp) Windows on it.

Macbook is a great laptop but you need to understand you pay for 4-5 years of updates/support up front rather than $200-$500 per year.
In years from now my macbook will still be thin and fast, especially with apps pushed to cloud. I have a PC for all those dongles that sits where it needs to.
For anyone interested this is what I like about it so far:
-proprietary support for linux-like environment POSIX
- support to run windows 'natively' or 'dualboot'
- incredibly light
- powerful enough to compile code
- powerful enough to play 'lightweight games'
- the scripting environment is very well documented on apple's site

Someone tell me: what is the point of a Mac? I mean in the sense of the OS, ignore the hardware, but you usually only get the OS with the computers which are very expensive.

Most people seem to just use it for generic shit like facebook and youtube. You don't need a $1000+ pc to do that.

1. It got trendy. A few years back somehow Apple really tried to push back with their products and the iPad and iPhone 4 caused the rule that "geeks" and pretend nerds (you know the sort) should incessantly hate every apple product without question

2. Political aims. It's frequently associated to the more liberal parts of society, the college kids, the middle class comfortable inconsequential little nothings that vote with their humanities and social sciences degree. It's also associated to gay people or people in LGBT+ groups. Truth is many more people use them.

3. They're expensive. Extra hate from europeans since you know, poor people, etc. You're telling someone to spend a fuckton of money for a laptop.

4. The rise of gayming as something more "sewious" these days. Too big of a market.

5. Arguably Apple have done terrible things in the last years and losing veterans left and right. So you got a bit of that too.

If you're a n00b use the LTS built which is 16.Something I believe. If you're more used to Linux use the newer 17 build.

17 uses slightly different terminal commands, so when looking for help online most help will be for the older build. The differences are minor that a more experienced user will easily figure out.

For example, to check for an update in 16 you would use "sudo apt get update" but in 17 it would just be "sudo apt update"

Every time I've said that they are not that bad really (used to be biased against them myself) they just proceed to hate them
