Is my t410 kill? I got the blue screen,so I did a full restore and now I get this. I don't much about computers. Should I just get a new hardrive?
>>
>>61061828
At worst it looks like you need a new drive.
>>
Does the Lenovo Digital Download Recovery Service also install drivers and shit, or only Windows?
>>
sometimes my mouse starts moving randomly and swiping my finger across the fingerprint reader seems to stop it

what the fuck could be causing this?
>>
Just got the top of the line i7 x220 for $120.
I'm going to flash to Coreboot and then throw in 16GB of 1866 RAM and a 1TB SSD. Thinking about adding an mSATA SSD as well, but since the mSATA slot only supports SATA II, I was wondering if it might be a good idea to then use the mSATA simply as a cache only drive. Or would I get better performance if I used the mSATA as the OS and the regular SSD as storage?
>>
>>61061918
The TrackPoint does this from time to time in order to re-calibrate itself during heavy usage. Swiping your finger across the fingerprint reader doesn't do anything. It's almost certainly a coincidence as the re-calibration usually takes a couple of seconds.
>>
got a thinkpad for school. trackpad is so shit makes me want to go back to my macbook
>>
>>61062123
you probably got a thinkpad with a bad trackpad or bad cable, replace both. this will fix your problem, if not, then you just dont like it

Interested in this offer, never hagled before though.

What price should I be going for? What arguments should I use. Starting offer is 510€

Is anyone else strongly considering unironically getting the retro Thinkpad when it comes out?

I have a W520 and the eternal X220, and they're both on their way out in terms of age.
>>
>>61062963
It depends on the price/rarity ratio
For all we know, they build 10,000 and charge $1200 each, then a year later they say "We were surprised at how popular they were. The T490 will now have the option of being customised with features from the Retro"
>>
>>61062963
I'll definitely get it if it's a worthy upgrade. I have an x220 right now which basically meets all of my expectations, expect it's a little lacking when it comes to modern ports, slightly improved speeds and better graphics. As long as they keep it logical and don't include the unnecessary bullshit which so many other new devices seem to have these days, then ya I'll probably get it. I have a feeling it'll probably hold its value well too.
>>
>>61062963

I already have the real retro ones, so no. This will be overpriced, not built to original standards and also not close to as good as the older ones.
>>
>>61063095
Well Thinkpads already hold their value well, so a limited edition one could go up in value depending on how many are made

>>

What are you talking about, no they don't? Used ones are much cheaper than what they costed new.
>>
>>61063202

>>
Maybe not the right thread, but does anyone know if the x220 is still being worked on for Libreboot support? There was some news about it a while back and minifree.org was even taking pre-orders for pre-flashed x220s which they assumed they might be able to ship out by the end of the year, but they've since removed the page and I haven't been able to find out anything else about it recently.
>>
>>61063232

>Well Thinkpads already hold their value well
What are you talking about? Cheap Thinkpads on eBay is literally a meme.
>>
>>61063211
I mean if you want a laptop that hold's it's value just buy a macbook, apple fans will buy it at whatever price.
>>

I'm not too sure. I'm not a huge fan of stickers
>>
>>61062123
Why are you using the trackpad on a thinkpad. If it's shit you can always just disable it in the bios and use the trackpoint only.

So I used to pick up my 540 by the top of the screen when moving (felt stable and safe), and I assumed tp's are sturdy. But after less than a year the plasic on the left side broke (including the srew-machinery that should hold both sides together). After some time the same happened on the right side. Now i'm changing the tape like weekly. Should I go for glue? Problem with that might be that I won't be able to install a new display if it brakes.
>>
What do you use your thinkpad if not for games?

Has anyone tried overclocking their screen?

Thinking about getting a nvidia mobo for my t430 and I'm wondering what sort of hz it could run at. Some laptop displays seem to overclock like crazy.

The other one was made over an hour later and is using the garbage OP from the last three threads that includes shilling HP bullshit.

Half the general couldn't even see those threads because they have HP tards filtered.

No thanks pajeet. Enjoy your garbage hour late shill thread.

I used to be the regular op, gave up and now the 2570p shill took over. I'm sorry guys.
>>
>>61063801
Same actually. This is my first OP in a long time, I quit browsing /tpg/ for a week since the shills took over. Saw the old thread was capped and the shill was asleep so I made one.

/g/ is fucking lazy.
>>
>>61063788
because it was first.
>>
>>61063661
No it's not. You just need to practice. There was a comparison "study" between the two with a few hundred participants a while back. They're basically the same. Obviously it's nothing concrete but the difference between the two is negligible when you're comfortable with either.
>>
>>61063842
it aint always about who cums first
>>
>>61063842
You retarded son? The shill thread was an hour late.
>>
>>61063578
What most people do with their laptops. Taking notes for studying, running GSN3 VM labs to do network tests, programming, watching videos, surfing the web, emulating machines with qemu/kvm, reading ebooks/pdfs, playing old dos games or emulating console games or playing new games with an eGPU... Is this even a real question?
>>
>>61063931
Not him but real question here.

Where would I start looking for abandonware productivity software, including things like AS/400. Is there literally no way to learn that at home?
>>
>>61063137

>Thinkpads already hold their value well

No, they're business laptops that get sold off every few years. That's why an X230 which cost £1,200 in 2013 costs £200 today. Dropping a grand in 3.5 years.
>>
>>61063976
What are you trying to do? Things such as the AS/400 are IBM architecture and can theoretically be emulated with qemu as it can emulate a PPC, but even that isn't complete and of course, you'd have to do an incredible amount of manual work. Basically impossible but to be honest, I'm probably not the best person to ask.
>>
>>61064138
They hold their value, not their cost.
>>
>>61064155
Always been curious about as400 and would like to get into it, but not looking to buy a ppc server just to play and funsies and maybe become literate in something that is probably useless
>>
>>61064175

>They hold their value, not their cost.

>>
>>61064215

>>
>>61064198
Check out the qemu documentation or post on the subreddit. I wish I could be more helpful but I don't really know much about the AS/400. Sorry
>>
>>61063569
Is it just the bezel thats broken? Cant you get a new on on ebay?
>>
Looking for a Thinkpad that

* is <= 150
* Supports libreboot
* Has decent battery life

Screen isn't that important and as long as it can play GBA games or simpler I'm fine. Thoughts?
>>
>>61061828
It will run MUCH better with an inexpensive SSD instead of spinning rust.

So, for whatever reason, my Bluetooth on my T420 automatically turns on when booting. Running Linux Ubuntu MATE 16.04. However even though the LEAD status light on the Thinkpads shows Bluetooth is on, Linux shows it's off. I have to turn it "on", then turn it off again to actually have the OS turn it off.

Is this a problem with the laptop or the OS?

Does anyone know some good MASSIVE batteries I could use for my T430? Weight is not an issue, but I'm often away from a power outline for 8 hours and it'd be nice to not have to switch batteries. Any chink high capacity batteries perhaps?
>>
>>61067430

No, 9-cell 94Wh is the highest.

However, you can get a slice battery that's another 94Wh if you need it. That's as good as you're gonna get, and is the combination with the highest capacity of any ThinkPad ever.
