All that matters is that the site convey the information that it needs to. Notice that there was no such thing as Angular.js or Anus.js or Rectum.js or whatever back then, just broken tag soup that did the job.

What I love the most is that often they look extremely fucking creative despite all of that. I've seen some kick ass effects on some of them and they all used basic css2 at most (maybe even less).

A little bit off topic.
Reading the requirements for industrial software is kinda funny sometimes.
System requirements
The ULTRA 3000 application will run on any PC or notebook. Required are Windows
XP, Windows 7 (32/64 bit) or Windows 8 (32/64 bit), an EGA or VGA graphics card,
and an available RS 232 or USB port.
Like anyone actually use a EGA graphics card in the year of our lord 2017.

>TFW I didn't know angelfire was still around
I used to have so many angelfire sites back in the day. My friend and I would go to the library after school and work on our websites after school. This one old lady that worked there kept thinking we were hackers and when we would pick up papers from the printer she would always joke we could have them for free if we hacked a couple extra zeros into her bank account.
I see not much has changed with Angelfire the, the free package still gives you only 20mb of storage.

NO
I miss websites like this, ya know functional, does the job without all the flashy ads and tons o popup windows and re capatcha things. No fucking layer and layer of embedded flash shit. Just the info/page links/straight up download links to shit and that's really all you need.
http://educate-yourself.org/
at least crackpots websites still load fast
I am building a search engine (wibr.me) for simple html 1.0 sites such as these. Too many contemporary sites use too much css and scripts to display content. In addition, google does not display interesting websites anymore, it can give you the answer to a technical question, but the fun of web surfing is lost. This thread is a goldmine.

It's like a dream and a tour all in one. This is amazing.
Though I can't help but feel something's been lost, I think particularly in the sort of sense of location you get from certain pictures. It reminds me of Furcadia (Something I've only looked at for historical research purposes, honest.) quite a bit. It seems at some point we realized websites aren't 2D virtual locations, but more like documents bloated with javascript so they take longer than they'd take if you typed them up on typewriter and faxed them to the reader.
Surprised nobody posted the obvious
