What are the cons of the Redmi Note 4 SD? I am hoping to get one in a few weeks. Also are you using a custom rom? If so which MM rom is the most stable one? Yes MM because having Xposed is a must for me. There's a thread in XDA by some ganesh jizz on LOS13.0 and it's the only one that looks slightly stable. Are there any other ROMS except MIUI that can be used a daily driver?
>>
>No news of Le Pro 3 for $196
>>
>>61039774
Cons
- Not Zuk Z2
- Shit Camera, even shittier if not on Miui
- Underpowered SD625 SOC, can't even play PPSSPP games without lagging
- Below average audio, headphone or speaker
- Not Type-C

The only thing it has for it is that the Redmi Note 4X has a turquoise colored version. Hachane Manko Edition or something.

>>
>>61039826
Hmm, Sadly there's no ZUK Z2 available here. Knew the camera would be shittier if I used a custom rom so I am willing to make that sacrifice. But is the SD625 that bad? I thought emulated games leaned towards the GPU side of things and the chip not so much....ehhh fuck it only game I play is Clash Royale. Pretty sure that'll run smoothly.

and also it's not turquoise it's green (At least that's what they call it). The green variant would've looked pretty noice with a black front but the front is fucking white REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I have one and all bootlooping memes are just that. Memes. Only the G4/V10 had those issues. I've had the V20 for a while now with no issues except for a few app incompatibilities. Growing pains of being on Android 7.0 early I'm sure. Anyhow

Not sure how relevant this is, but is anybody here familiar with signal boosters at all? I'm gonna be living in a place that gets no signal (nearest cell tower is about 6.5km away), and wanted a booster so I can still get calls. Do they work well? Do I need a signal for it to work? I can just barely get a signal in some areas around our property.
>>
>>61040128
Many thanks, my friend.

In my country I can get one brand new for the equivalent of 370USD, with the B&O Play DAC. Hope to get one in the coming month/s.
>>
>>61040136
I think you do need a bit of a signal for it to work. We use a booster during deer hunting to get a signal in the trailer. We wire it to an antenna on the roof of the trailer. It's a bit busted and you need your phone basically right on top of the booster, but then it works great. I think a proper one should give signal to a whole room. Lastly, signal boosters are incredibly expensive.
>>
>>61040220
There's one I found that's like 300 bucks and seems to get good reviews. The problem is there's so little info regarding the things online as far as I can see. We have one at our current place that seems to work well but it was like a grand I think.

Mi Max 2, it's worth the difference (check techtablets review). Also it's available for $268 from Gearbest so the difference to the 3/32 Mi Max is $70 (and you get 4/64 with the Mi Max 2)

Thanks but what is meant by "no carrier"?
Meaning, an unlocked phone? And/or a prepaid plan?
What is meant by Signal? Just determining choice based on which carrier provides best signal in my area?
I live in major metro in US, top carriers all have plenty of coverage so that isn't an issue.
Thanks in advance anons
>>
>>61041321
Alright thanks, also another question, if you want a budget phone, is it better to buy a very recent budget model or buy and outdated but that was a high end model of years ago?

Shamless bump. Anyone have info?
>>
>>61039897
Had one since day 1 (was in a hurry to get something usable after being forced out of the Note 7) and never had any problems.

Well, not quite true. I had one instance where the power button wasn't being recognized. I don't know what I did to fix it, because what I did was get frustrated and come back to it 3 minutes later and it worked.

Other than that one time, I haven't had any trouble with it. Might still jump ship around the end of the year to something else, if I find anything tasty, but that's because I got that new tech itch again.
>>
>>61041336
Are you fucking retarded? Is the guy that made it so obscure-sounding retarded? He means unlocked. Buy an unlocked phone, put your SIM in it. Of course he didn't mean no carrier whatsoever, why the fuck would he mean that?
You fucking idiot. You couldn't deduce that he meant "unlocked". Who would use a smartphone without a SIM in it? Jesus fucking Christ.
>>
>>61041393
Awesome. I'll take that as being a one-off, then. I guess taking the battery out and back in would also work, so no sweat.

Honestly so looking forward to this phone. My Huawei P9 screen doesn't recognize touch sometimes and at other times it'll lock up completely. Suppose thats what you get for going with a Chinese brand.
>>
>>61040910
AMOLED almost always.

LCD has a thousand little tiny frustrations, but hey. You get... well, the color repro is worse on most recent LCD panels, actually. And of course the blacks are worse. And the battery use isn't any better... so...
>>
>>61041373
>>61040076
It's actually as good as it looks like. Main con would be the average camera, but other than that it doesn't really have any weaknesses.

Will anyone explain to be why eBay sellers sell S8 so much more cheaper than anywhere else? We're talking brand new unopened devices. In my case a S8+ would be at least 200 euro cheaper than what it would go for at retail price in my home country.

I'm actually in France. I'm not well knowledgeable on phone related terms but is carrier related to 4G/LTE, mobile data in general ?
My budget I can probably afford 300€ at most, I can use personal savings (~150€) to raise up the price as I'm not the one purchasing.

Ideal wanted features would be a phone powerful enough to last 3 years without feeling left up in terms of speed/performance or custom rom support, microSD slot, good battery life given that I'm fed up of my 3h30 screen on time. I don't care about photo or audio. Also a good storage capability since i'll be torrenting on it as well

Check out Moto G5 Plus, should be around 300€ for the 3GB RAM version. Another phone to consider is the Honor 8, should be available for around 300-360€.

Here's an excellent deal on Moto Z Play, it's the German Amazon but afaik they ship to other countries too

So for the last couple of years, I've been looking for the following in a smartphone:

REQUIRED
-1080p minimum AMOLED screen
-Expandable storage
-Prompt update support to the latest x.0 version at LEAST
-Near-stock Android (or with actually useful changes)
-Water resistance
-Battery that's at LEAST 3400 mAh in size
-ROM/Root support
-USB Type C charging port
-NFC
OPTIONAL
-Rear fingerprint scanner
-Wireless charging
-Front-facing speakers (which is about as dead as the IR blaster right now)
-Removable battery (Second verse, same as the first)
-Flat screen panel, none of these 2.5D or curved screen memes
-OIS camera

Everything I've seen is missing at least two of the things I require. Can anyone recommend me a phone that comes close to covering all the things I've listed above?

Also, I'm in Canada. Doesn't matter what carrier, I'll switch to what may work best.
>>
I've been using a Moto G5 Plus (4GB/64GB) for about a week now and I really like it. I switched from a Moto X Pure that was giving me trouble and I thought that there might not be too noticable of an improvement in smoothness but it's like night and day. Those two extra cores and extra gig of RAM do make all the difference, especially when the hardware only has to push content to a 1080p screen vs 1440p. I don't really notice the drop in pixel density either, and the Moto G5 has a more saturated look which I prefer to the flat look of the X Pure. The X Pure had a brighter screen, though.

I do wish that the thing wasn't so slippery. I don't want to put it in a case but I've already had it slip out of my grip while taking it out of my pocket. Luckily it just fell back into the pocket, but I'm having to be a lot more careful than I was with the X.

If anybody has questions about the G5 or app compatibility, AMA.

Just tell me what to do (not kys)...

I broke my LG G3 a few weeks ago and had to switch back to an even older Motorola Droid Razr M that is a piece of shit. I am on Verizon post pay.

I am currently destitute-homosex and I guess getting another phone at Verizon means buying one straight up (expensive) or paying a monthly fee in addition to my bill.

So, please, recommend a budget phone under $150 (even hovering around $100) that works in the USA and the provider that it works with. I am even interested in checking out an MVNO, if necessary, then if that's bullshit, switching to the proper carrier.

>4k ips(+ or w/e the latest enhanced lcd is called) vs
>QHD amoled.

The rest of the specs are the same or lean slightly in the Sony's favour.

As for the displays, I'd say they're about even. Whatever you'd be lacking in the Sony should be made up for in resolution and battery life.

If you're considering it for VR I'm not so sure. There is something about the pixel gaps, even on hi-res displays, I forget if amoled is better or worse.
>>
>>61050940

Possibly.

The alternative would be to let it charge for a full hour, see if the battery calibrates/unfucks itself

Then do the rocker/power-on button thing

So just play the waiting game letting it charge overnight and if it fails to work in the morning even trying to boot into recovery then my best bet is to return it?

If it isn't done in an hour, I don't see leaving it all night making any difference.

I had a similar issue with an ipad air 2, usually when they were left in and not turning on they had to charge for quite a while before you could turn it on.

But in one case, I let it charge for a weekend and came into work on monday and it was still fucked. So yea, if it isn't working after and hour send it back.

Is Mediakek that bad?
>>
>>61051613
>Mediakek
yes if you care about battery life
>>
>>61051613

The only real issue with Mediatek was that they tended to be power hungry, now they're much more optimised.

They were more power hungry because they tended to have more cores, which also meant more heat. Now most SoC's are running some form of octa setup so it's all much of a muchness.

The important thing to look at now is the full SoC. So you'd look at Mali vs Adreno or w/e.

Snapdragons(with their own Adreno) are usually better for battery's, but they have thier stinkers too.

Market has been ballwashing Qualcomm for so long and Mediatek were content with mid-range and budget that it's easy to dismiss them.

tldr; it's fine.

Fixed that for you. Of course, because of community support some devices can last for many years past the roughly 18-24 months that most smartphone makers allow for the "lifespan" of their devices.

I've been thinking about getting a Blackberry Passport, but the future of the bb10 os is looking very dim indeed.

I want a good work phone, the screen is perfect for emails and spreadsheets. But if I can't login to my banking app, social media apps, or login to remote desktop, what's the point?

Is anyone using one of these? I'd like to know if it's worth the risk.

BB10 OS is dead, and I say that as a loyal Z10 owner for many years now and still love it even in spite of a few shortcomings. The KEYone is what you should be looking at if you to remain using some of the BlackBerry ecosphere of apps and support, if you don't give a fuck about a physical keyboard then one of the two DTEK models would be other options.

My Nexus 6P is pretty fucked. It shuts down at any battery % less than 20, and battery depletes incredibly fast so I'm considering getting a new phone. Which model should I get?

My moto g 4 play does not find my bluetooth in ears even though they worked with my old phone. Why is that and how to fix it?

Nope it's a SD625 which doesn't overheat with normal usage.

Okay other bluetooth devices seem to work.

Anyone have thoughts on the surface phone (if it ever gets released)?

I mostly use my phone for workflow, and if they go customizable route (micro SD support, removable battery) it might mesh really well with my job and home life. Continuum looks neat, but I won't hold my breath. What I'm really more interested in is how Win10S /might/ finally make apps less relevant, which would be fucking awesome, I'm tired of housing a bunch of proprietary shit on my internal storage.

Already have a surface book, I just want my shit to match really.

If Microsoft ever release a surface phone

I know 100% it will use micro usb for charging
>>
>>61057197

This is 100% accurate and it fucking amazes me to no end how stupid MS is.

>release surface laptop
>supposed to be macbook killer
>lol no USB C
>we ask peebull an dey say dey no want tho

are you fucking kidding me? Use it for charging, then when the phone comes out you have data and charging all in one.

It's just planned obsolescence, and it's so fucking blatant.

What is the consensus on HTC phones here?

Had a desire HD for years and moved to a M8. Also had a tytn 2 and a HD2 back in the day. Loved em all and the M8 is lightning fast.

They have had some appaling midrange phones but never a bad flagship as far as I know. I tend to buy old flagship models 3-4 years down the line.

Their phones don't seem to get discussed here much
>>
>>61055067
:((((((((((
>>
>>61058456
Their budget / midrange phones are mostly shit, and overpriced for the specs they have.

The flagships are much better. They don't necessarily have cutting edge technology like Samsung has but the software experience is much better, as HTC's skin is closer to stock, lighter and with less bloat.

HTC One M7 and M8 were great phones, M9 was a bit shit, mainly thanks to how terrible the SD810 SoC was. HTC 10 was probably the most underrated phone of last year, and now the HTC U11 is also being reviewed very highly with people saying it's their best phone in years. /g/'s reaction seems mainly to be "lol no headphone jack" but if you can look past that I honestly think it's one of the best phones to come out so far this year.

I'm in the UK what phone do I get? I still have a iPhone 4 because I can't decide on a new phone. I was close to being a one plus 3T but I'm not sure if it is out of date. Please help me buy a phone I research so much that I end up getting nothing.
>>
>>61059332
Lenovo P2, it's £200 from Three, no SIM lock or carrier bloat
>>
>>61059332

The only way to get a 3T now is from O2 on contract or paying more than it's worth in full. Or getting lucky on Amazon or something.

Get a Sony XZ Premium and be more unique than plebs with their Samsungs.
>>
I have a budget of roughly 500€.

Every phone on the market right now has some sort of feature (or lack of) that is deal breaking for me.

Is there any possible new phone that will come out in the very near future that is worth waiting for?
>>
>>61059470

The 5T should be out in 6 months.

Seriously though, you'll be playing the waiting game indefinitely if you work that way. Especially since there is nothing on the horizon actually worth waiting on.

I don't know anon: every time I see a new product there is always that something that sets me off:
>Galaxy S8
>curved screen, bloated android, bad durability (glass not protected by the frame)
>LG G6
Old processor, dual camera with wide angle instead of zoom, bad durability (glass not protected by the frame)
>OP5
1080p PenTile AMOLED, unstabilized cameras, no IP68, no SD card slot
>Everything that doesn't have a 3,5mm jack

Fuck, I know I'm picky, but it's my precious neetbux and I don't want to waste them on a half ass product.

When will the X4 be released?
>>
Any honor 5x owners out there? How is it? Do you like the virtual buttons?
The thing keeping me from buying this is the blank chin and virtual buttons on top. Seems fucking retarded honestly. What a waste of space, they could've put haptic buttons on the chin and gave more screen space.

Also generally looking for a 4.7 inch phone. Requirements
>Metal - no metallic plastic
>No shitware unless removable
>High pixel density
>3gb memory preferred but 2gb ok
>$200
Really I want to pay $100. Will go as big as 5" but no larger.
Bonus for fingerprint reader.
