Drivers!!
So i got a old Thinkpad T61.
I go over to the Lenovo website to check the drivers and i cant find the model...
I then check for my Thinkpad X201 and again no drivers.

Where have they moved the drivers and support for the older models to?

They talk about a Lenovo EOL site that has all the old models and drivers, any of you guys know where to find it?

thanks for the help

No response in last thread so I'll repost...

So, I want to buy a x200 Motherboard, install it into my x201 chassis, and then install Libreboot onto that. I know that swapping the motherboards is easy, but I'm uncertain about the Libreboot flashing procedure... I have a device with gpio pin output/input, but I wouldn't mind someone to walk me through it and hold my hand... Anyone here know of this process and willing to help me out, or know anyone/anywhere that could help and hold my hand?

Join my IRC and chat me up, thanks a ton!!

So I don't have to buy a whole 'nother computer to flash libreboot to. i've done a number of modifications to my x201 already and I can get a motherboard for a x200 rather cheap.
>>
>>61031815
Why do you want to use libreboot? Ever heard of ME cleaner?
>>
>>61031265
Hello /tpg/
I've posted about this before but not gotten much in the way of answers that weren't just picking at my motivation.

I'm looking for a 13-14 inch laptop that has the following properties in order of most to least important to replace my X230 as it is surplus to requirements in some ways and unsatisfactory in others.

<2cm thin
great keyboard, trackpoint required
the same weight as an X230, preferably less
display of resolution >=1440x900 (can't stand my claustrophobic 1366x768 anymore.
display of good quality (no colour inversion whatsoever, glossy is ok. colour accuracy not a huge concern.)
thinner bezels
USB 3.0
CPU before core-i series for no botnet (yes, this and the prior are mutually exclusive)

I don't care about CPU speed, it's going to be running Manjaro and BSPWM and be for lightweight development, bringing to lectures and webbrowsing when I'm not at my desk. Currently my X230 is jack of all trades, master of none and when I get my desktop back I won't need the processing power any more (although the screen is IPS which I know is something I'd lose.)

What I really want is an X301, but the displays are pretty bad. Secondarily is something like a T400s but it could be thinner. X200s has a lot of benefits but is hard to find and I want to go to a bigger display, T420s has bigger bezels so more wasted space and I have no need for a strong processor, and the retrofittable better panels are hard to find. X61s would be cool but it's CCFL and I'd have to get an 1.8" adapter.

Are there any interesting Sony Vaio or Dell latitude models I'm missing that satisfy my requirements for small dimensions but sturdy design without the dumb compromises in display quality Lenovo made from 2009-2013 and with good keyboards? Cheers.

I've asked this before but, for xx20 keyboards, which out of NMB and Chicony have the better keys and importantly also, which have the nicer trackpoint buttons that are silent yet tactile. Everyone who knows the difference has different preferences. I'll take the Chicony over the others any day of the week.
>>
>>61035744
The keyboard feels are all different each generation. The designs changed markedly for all three manufacturers between X4x, X6x and X2xx. For X6x, I like the Chicony best. For X4x and X20x, I like the Alps. The NMBs only register reliably if you hit them dead center, and are stupidly overcomplicated construction. As of the X220, NMB started using the Alps design.

well one way or another you have to upgrade to the 900p screen
your options are
the 1600x900 matte screen that made for the T430
or
1600x900 glossy alienware screen thats almost like ips in terms of viewing angles and colors. that said you need the cable from the 900p screen to be able to install it

I think I have a problem anons. I have too many Thinkpads.
4 x T440s
4 x T420
1 x X201
1 x W530
1 X X230
1 X T450s
1 X A60? Can't remember it's an old P3.

Every machine is a fully optioned from what I can tell with exception to WAN cards.

Multiple docks for T420.
A couple docks for T440s.

Starting to run out of ideas for them. I just finished replacing the DC jack on the X230 and repasting it, stupid design on that.

The T420 is probably the best design I've seen internally.

The W530 isn't bad but having to remove the display just to repaste is a bit of a hassle.

How much would it cost me to make this pc more useable?
I've been thinking of just getting a new laptop, but I'm addicted to the trackpoint and keyboard of this thing.
I have 2 HDD's in it, both of questionable age.
I could replace one with an SSD that's in my desktop but I don't really need it in there.

Also, how much of an improvement is a better screen?
I hear everybody complaining about 1366*768, but I guess I don't have a problem since I've never tried better.

If I keep this one, I also need to clear it thoroughly, like the keyboard and the grate in front of the speakers are dirty shits.
I'm also not sure if it's still doable to get a new battery for it.

Any advice on how to handle all this?
I'm guessing it would be cheaper than a completely new laptop.

Good morning, /g/entoomen.

I have a dilemma. After reading all the documentation provided here, I still cannot for the life of me decide on whether I want the X200 (small, 12") or the T420 (le weed memes aside, good resolution and still a very comfy size).

I'm inclined to try the x200 and plunge right into the trackpoint, but I still feel it may be too small (the laptop).

Anyone got both of these lappy toppies willing to share their experience?

Thanks, guys.

hey guys, I just put a 2nd SSD in the optical drive on my T430. I turn my laptop back on but I cand find the drive anywhere, so I'm guessing I need to mess with the BIOS to configure it?

it's not worth using

it's not a simple pin swapping, it requires drivers and junk which may or may not be buggy, you're also restricted to the expresscard's bandwidth, which is less than half native USB 3.0 speeds (although still 3x faster than USB 2.0)

you can get an ultrabase and then swap out the cd/dvd drive for a hard drive caddy and stick another hard drive in there

I would not buy a no-name/Chinese SSD. They use the same hardware as the other SSD's since they get it all from the same factories, however quality control and warranties and support may be nonexistent. Also SSD's will last for years, you can always take it out and put it in a new machine.

Oh ok. So I got yelled at by some scummy motherfucker.

I was setting the price a bit higher than usual, I'll admit, but goddamn was the guy nuts. First he asked about how old was the laptop, then complained that I was trying to sell something from years ago, then that he sold his x201t for 20€ less and the processor was "much better" and a beast compared to my thing.

If the nigga knew how old it was, why did he ask anyways?

Glad to know I'm not totally in the wrong here.

but I'm worried about the new IPS display, this shit was expensive

could it be damaged by the brick?
>>
>>61056313
isnt that for the bigger models?
I mean you wouldnt have much issues running a higher wattage charger its just afaik 65 watts should be enough. also nothing should happen to the screen even if you go for 90 watt charger

>>61056313
65W wouldnt affect x series
90W for iGPU quadcores
135W for dGPU quadcore
170 or 210 for w series
>>
>>61056313
dont listen to
>>61056495
65W affects i7-3520m+IPS x230. It stops battery charging during load. Same applies to T420/T430 with custom screens.
if you don't have a battery you need at least 90W PSU in dual core models or CPU will be stuck in lowest power state

Did you know that x60 had different types of keyboards going around? The shitty membrane Chinese plastic ones (like the Japanese kb pictured) and the glorious mechanically superior European ones. Even the keys are not compatible, though they look the same. Except plastic, plastic quality stands out. Japanese one is made of recycled bottles and condoms and shit, as it feels.

HP 2570p shill claimed you can boot from SD card slot.
Does this provide any advantage over using slim MicroSD card adapter to boot from USB port?
>>
Searching for "T530 trackpad sticker" yields no results. What search term do I use, instead?
>>
>>61031622

>>
>>61059744
I think the appeal of SD card booting is that you can just leave the SD card in the laptop and it doesn't protrude or anything.

Never done it myself or wanted to do it, so I don't know of any other benefits to it.
>>
>>61059744
Uhm, because you don't need to play with adapters?
Because SD cards are much faster and more reliable than microsd cards?

>>
>>61060036
Depends. I got the top of the line x220 in mint condition for $120 (upgraded to max ram for $100 more later on) and to me, the fact that support for Libreboot might come by the end of the year is a significant part of why I got it.

*30 series can't use *20 series batteries (despite being the same size and shape and *30 batteries working in *20's), that's probably the battery problem you're talking about, people getting the older generation batteries and trying to stick them in the *30 series

and Lenovo has a white list for their network cards, so you have to use Lenovo-approved network cards unless you flash the BIOS
>>
Aight /tpg/ >>61056118 here, back again. I'm kinda lost here so I have to ask because I think I set the price a tad too high despite this one guy contacting me sperging out and being in the wrong, and you guys are probably much more helpful (well, that and because there's no bias).

How much should I ask for a X220 in good condition with a 120GB SSD and 8GB of RAM in southern europe? No IPS so I can't charge for that I'm afraid.
>>
>>61060538
The point of booting from integrated sd card reader is to insert the card and forget about it. It doesn't stick out like this small piece of shit you're showing me, so you don't have to unplug it everytime you pack your laptop into bag. It's on the PCIe bus, so it supports any bandwidth the card provides. USB 2.0 is capped to 30MBps. Plus it's a good quality reader, unlike chink USB shit.
I've answered your question. Do you want anything else?
>>
>>61060538
why don't you just use a normal flash drive

Irrelevant.
The maximum speed you can get depends on the SD card class.
Class 10 is capped at 10 MB/s.

yes.

This one is USB 3.0, 128GB (there are also 256GB models), it's smaller than your chink shit. Read speeds up to 150MBps.
