In my case, I'm selling an X220 right now and I decided to make a clonezilla image with a sysprepped Windows 7 installation with all lenovo drivers and nothing else, activated automatically with its legal refurbish key underneath.

My problem is, when installing windows, the fingerprint application pops up asking the user to set up the fingerprint sensor. I cannot seem to change that one unless I uninstall it and I wouldn't want to do that.
>>
>>60993818
the fingerprint application should have a checkbox on the bottom that says "start up with windows"

uncheck that
>>
>>60993864
Yeah, the thing is after fucking with it on audit mode and sysprepping this thing, that setting goes back to it on a new account.

Maybe I'll just leave it like that and explain in case there needs to be an explanation.

Fucking nigger HP 2570p shill
Thinking really hard whether I should buy one.
160€ doesn't sound bad for one. But I think I can't bear with that keyboard and its nipple.
>>
Does the 2570p have a backlit keyboard available for it? Guessing no.

How are those reflective keyboard stickers on ebay when used with the keyboard light?

Bought this for someone who can't touch type yet so they have trouble in the dark.
>>
>>60992454
I have the i7 version from when it was new. T520's are bretty reliable, only had to swap out the hard drive because i let someone else use it and they crammed it full of viruses.
>>
>>60993965
You need a smallish laptop for portability reasons, right?
A 2570p is bulkier and has less battery compared with the x230 (with 9-cell batery).
It's more expandable, sure (regarding CPU), but the QM CPU in a 2570p throttles after a while under heavy load, it also rapes the battery under said loads.

The 2570p is definetly more robust than the x230, but they act differently when they fall. The HP is bendier and will get bent or cracked like and apple (but will whitstand much more than apple shit), while the x230 will crack faster than bend.
The keys themselves feel better (texture wise), but the layout is pure cancer. The trackpoint in the HP laptops is less precise and the lack of middle button is retarded. The trackpad is better than the x230 one (I only use the trackpad on an elitebook for scrolling though). No backlit keyboard option for the HP either.

Regarding meme eGPUs, the hp's seem to be more stable under express card 2.0 speeds, but I have a x230 that is completely stable too (I only say it's unstable because there are several reports of it in the web).

The x230 is harder to clean and change the thermal paste if you ever need to do it, because you have to take the motherboard from the chassis (which is only a 10 min operation, but whatever).

For more questions, feel free to ask.

>t. thinkpad and elitebook pro, fuck latitudes, tecras a shit, panasonic are awesome
>>
>>60994121
>and has less battery compared with the x230 (with 9-cell batery).
????????????????
2570p also has 9cell option. It's actually 100Wh, while x230 has 93Wh. Recheck your facts.
>and the lack of middle button is retarded.
?????
And what stops you from scrolling with right trackpoint button?
>>
>>60994034
>Does the 2570p have a backlit keyboard available for it? Guessing no.
No, only the light above the screen. But it's probably possible to fit 2170p keyboard into 2570p, which has exact same layout and it's backlit.
>but the QM CPU in a 2570p throttles after a while under heavy load
Lie. 35W QMs NEVER throttle on standard heatsink.
45W QMs also don't throttle, but temperatures close to 100C are not acceptable (throttling engages at 102C, 105C is shutdown)
It's very easily fixable by mountig small piece of cooper or cooper coints on the heatpipe, which is the only bottleneck in 2570p cooling system.
>rapes the battery under said loads.
My standard 6cell battery (55Wh) with i7-3740m works for 1 hour under full load of CPU and iGPU, screen at 100% and SSD+HDD spinning. 100Wh option is about 2 hours. But lets face it: you will never load the cpu that badly, even during gayming. In practice 55Wh battery gives me from 4 to 6 hours of chrome use. 100Wh is about 12 hours.

Didn't know that.

>And what stops you from scrolling with right trackpoint button?
Because that button is for right click.

>Lie. 35W QMs NEVER throttle on standard heatsink.
Proofs? On normal loads they sure don't, but make them render something and watch the chip's temperature climb and climb until it throttles.

>My standard 6cell battery (55Wh) with i7-3740m works for 1 hour under full load of CPU and iGPU, screen at 100% and SSD+HDD spinning
Yep, that's shit. Without the QM you would have another 30 mins at least.

Got my T460 and it has a rubbery finish on the trackpad, feels very gritty and I hate using it.
>>
>>60994633
>Because that button is for right click.
you press the button and don't release it - it works as scroll button
you press the button and release it - it right clicks
Literally using it right now and everything works fine.
>Proofs? On normal loads they sure don't, but make them render something and watch the chip's temperature climb and climb until it throttles.
The fact that these qc cpus are 35W is enough. All dual core cpus are 35W too.

>Yep, that's shit.
>30 mins at least
So this will be 1:30hr.
This is exactly how long my old x230 with 9cell battery (80Wh usable capacity) was lasting. It was i7-3520m and IPS powered, and I'm counting full load during fallout: new vegas gameplay. So I'm sorry desu but IPS screens use much more power than the difference between my i7-3740qm and stock dual cores.
No surprise tho. IPS screens are known to be extremely power hungry.
>>
>>60994379
>No, only the light above the screen. But it's probably possible to fit 2170p keyboard into 2570p, which has exact same layout and it's backlit.

Wish there were a single success story for this. From googling it seems like an extra ribbon cable would be necessary to power the backlight and I don't know where this would go on the motherboard.
>>
>>60994999
there are lots of unused connectors on the 2570p motherboard. Even powered USB headers.
So I guess it's only a matter of measuring what voltage it requires and using the proper connector.

I think the E6430s was a neat device, though the E5520m is quite laughable (Core 2 Duo in 2011)

Although the E7440 does like to throttle and has shit battery life, I think it is a better machine than the X1C2 that came out around the same time.

Also the magical E6440 sounds nice too.
>>
>>60995565
Are you still talking about 2570p or x220?
x220 AFAIK doesn't require bios mod, or at least it depends on the converter board.
2570p doesn't require any bios mods. It's just a matter of fitting right panel into this tight screen section and finding the proper cable.
>>

Look, just do to wikipedia and see the pure processing power of the GPU and this tactic in future from doing stupid questions like these.

For example, Quadro M2000m has 1.4TFLOPS of processing power. This is right about the equivalence of GTX750. Can you do a whole lot with a GTX750? Do note that M2000m has 4gb vRAM. Note that your CPU may or may not bottleneck.
>>

Out of 10 how bad of an idea is that in terms of killing the lifespan. Assuming it iwll be plugged in when playin games if that matters
>>
Hey guys which thinkpad tablet should I use for school? I need it for taking notes and doing hand-written math problems.
>>
>>60997447
The question is "what games"

Because if you're playing Minecraft, TF2, LoL, DOTA, Skyrim or Starcraft 2 like everybody in the world they'll run on pretty much anything without much stress.
>>
>>60997498
pen and paper
>>
>>60997505
The most stressful would be XCOM 2.
I'd get a dedicated GPU anyway.

Other that that, nothing really comes to mind that's too difficult. Maybe Fallout 4.
Oh and the new Monster Hunter game that'll be released.

I don't get if they're on low at 720p. But it's more a case of "will I have to buy a new laptop in two years" that I'm wondering, new games needing higher specs aren't included - obviously that would need new hardware. I'm wondering about game playing on life span.

As someone who has used an X201 Tablet for school, I'm not sure this is something you really want.

It will work but for personal notes I'd prefer pen and paper every time. If your professors only accept stuff written digitally, then sure. I have only tested Inkscape. Maybe other drawing / note programs work better.

I don't formally recommend the X201 Tablet for school because it's theoretically bulkier than newer business tablets, but if you're on a poorfag budget it will get the job done.

I got a T440p for $220 on ebay, replaced the trackpad with T450 for $35, and the screen with a 1080p IPS for $45.

This laptop is a dream for me and cost $300, literally couldn't be happier.

Thanks for popping my vintage thinkpad bubble. I still have one, but for daily use this thing kicks its ass.

How bad would it be to buy a t61p with the Nvidia 570M card? I read they are faulty. What's faulty? Considering the laptop has lasted so long until now, am I right to assume the gpu is probably not going to have an issue down the road?
>>
>>61002625
I would guess not, but I'm not quite sure.
I don't know exactly what the defect was, but back then, a good batch of T60's, T61's, X60's, X61's and related models had their NVIDIA GPUs built with a defect that made them die after a certain time. Just keep replacing the thermal paste every now and then.

I never said unmodded 2570p heatsink can handle i7-3940xm. More like I was talking about enough power provided by power section. Of course you need to mod it a little or otherwise you'll end up with 100C temperatures.
Pic rel can easily handle i7-3940xm under full load of cpu and iGPU at 90C degrees.

>>
>>61007371

like what?
This is a standard heatsink with additional copper elements.
You can just buy 5mm copper plate, cut as many elements as you want to fit inside and just glue these into the heatsink (especially the heatpipe) with epoxy + thermal compound. Copper coins will also do the job.
My i7-3740qm at full load doesn't even get 85C degrees. And you can always lower the temperature even more by making custom fan profile and using liquid metal compound.
>>
>>61007458
You know, to get quad core 2570p you also need to upgrade your CPU.

Hmm, now when you mentioned, it seems to be quite a little heatsink. The heat pipe is short which optimal because it's more efficient transferring heat and but those fins on the end of that. As you can see in the picture, X220 has longer pipes but not as much fins as 2570p has which. By fins I mean the surfare area those bring.
But I want to doubt that 2570p stock heatsink is not enough to cool 45w CPUs down when under 100% load.

>>61007946
2570p heatpipe is extremely short, so all the heat is immediately transfered and blown the fuck out by the fan. 2570p has proper fan inflow below it unlike x220, which has less vents and much worse fan.
2570p fan is better but it wears quicker, but honesly who gives a fuck about paying $1 every 2-3 years to replace a fucking fan. Holy shit
>But I want to doubt that 2570p stock heatsink is not enough to cool 45w CPUs
cool story bro. I'm using one for 3 months now. NEVER experienced throttling, and I gaym a lot using both iGPU and GTX960 eGPU.
I've personally tested my brother's i7-3940xm and I'm 100% sure slightly modded 2570p heatsink can handle all this heat. Well maybe if you get some shitty first revision unit it might have thermal issues, but clearly mine doesn't have it.

It's funny because my X220 with i5-2520m under 100% got up to +90c even if the fan was running it's maximum. That by itself has made me classify X220 not field ready unless I try reapply thermal paste (which I totally should do).
While my T61 with T7300 (35w cpu as well) could stay way under 80c (about 75c) while running 100% for 3 days. I just couldn't get it to overheat.

Yes
HD4000 (IB) is 200% faster than HD3000. Plus supports OpenCL and DX11.
IB is 22nm while SB is 32nm. IB utilizes newer chipset (qm77 in our case), SB uses old qm67 chipset. IB is faster in handling hardware RAID, SB even lacks some device sleep states.
IB supports up to 2133MT/s RAM. SB supports up to 1866MT/s (but it's known to have graphics artifacts in gaymes), which is pointless for SB anyway because HD3000 is old and slow as fuck

Is this a render or an actual photo? The Lenovo blog that was posted about the retro carried this image.

David Hill confirmed most of the leaks and it sounds like it is a T470 with a different keyboard and maybe different aspect ratio display (new bezel?).

The problem is, look at the image. The T430 had the best chiclet keyboard because even though the layout was changed, the key travel stayed the same. Starting from the xx40 series and beyond, they've been slowly reducing key travel across the board. Now look at this image. Those keys look no deeper than modern chiclet keyboards, even if it is a classic seven row.

This has me worried.

did you read full sentence?
x230 with 16gb ram doesn't work with egpus, unless you reflash bios via hardware SPI flasher with fixed version.
Also you can't just hotplug egpu like a flash drive into x230 or it won't be detected/it will BSOD. In 2570p it's fully hotpluggable and removable without shutting system down.
>I'm interested, elaborate?
thinkpad dock completely covers all cpu inflow vents, so you get extra 10-15C degrees more on CPU
2570p has lots of inflow vents outside of the part blocked by dock. Also dock has bigass hole where the fan is so there is no difference in temp if you dock it.
>What?
You can OC your CPU (including dual cores) via bclk by at least 200MHz. Not much, but it's useful for some people, especially since it also increases RAM frequency (faster gaymuring in iGPU).

now load both CPU and iGPU. You can use CPU-z and GPU-z stress tests. This will give you additional 15W (turbo) or 10W (non-turbo iGPU) of TDP to handle.

Offense is subjective. If my friend wanted to call a tranny a dude I wouldn't be offended, but I'm sure the tranny would be.

>Do you feel like locking people up...
No, like I said previously I don't agree with the hate speech laws, but I don't entirely give a fuck about them either, not until a legitimate injustice happens under them

>Why are you such a leftist country
Probably because of all the immigrants in the cities. Rural areas are mostly white and conservative leaning, but not as much as the US. Most people here left or right agree that Trump is fucking retarded, and also that you were going to get fucked either way with Hillary or Trump.

The overall atmosphere here is that we don't hate each other, unlike America where you hate everyone and trust no one. So we're more inclined to want better social benefits and equality/rights.

For socialists it's "social justice" if you steal money from hard working people so you can hand it over to rapefugees or homeless/dumb/retarded people.
While "injustice" for them and your government is when people get rich by legally using their talents and sacrificing pleasures just to achieve a higher goal.
