Didnt get a response last thread, trying here.

I am trying to create a RAID with 4x 8TB drives, but even though each has been formatted to 7.27TB, the RAID controller only sees each drive as 1.2TB
Before this had 3x 2TB in RAID, and the HDs showed up correctly as 1.8TB each.

Now a second issue: doesn't mater what RAID I create it wont show up in Windows. It still sees each individual drive unallocated. I can format each one, and use it individually, even though they show up as being part of an array inside the RAID config.

If I plug the old HDs back into the system, it detects the old RAID, and works fine.

Even if I try each individual drive by itself after doing a fresh format, it still sees it as 1.2TB

I made no other BIOS changes, and looked everything over.

BIOS is on the latest update, nothing new out.

What do? I already spend like 2 hours replugging drives, trying idividual ports.
Picked up a used RAID card my friend had, LSI Megaraid 9040-4i
Will try this in tomorrow.

krita?
>>
>>60985203
Yes, huge.

Intel whips the floor with AMD when it comes to Singlecore performance which is important for pretty much everything thanks to the lack of optimization of programs.
AMD selling point is the more core/thread for cheaper tactic, even its weaker, if a program uses all cores and threads it will be more efficient than a powerful CPU with a few cores.
>>
>>60985220
krita is not ultra basic but you'll love it
>>60985214
make sure you have wine installed. now double click the .exe and if nothing's wrong it would work.
about ".exe" files, they are compiled for windows. if they are cross platform program, you can compile a binary for the os your are on
>>
>>60985203
>>60985233
TLDR: Intel is better but more expensive.
>>
>>60985247
So, if an .exe file doesn't have cross-system support, does that mean that it cannot be ran natively, without WINE?

so a single intel core running at the same frequency as a single amd core will be faster? is there a way to measure or figure out how much faster?

its not as simple as that, some programs are really hard to program in a scalable manner.
>>
>>60985271
Pretty much.
This is why game emulation sucks with AMD.
How faster? depends on both CPU generation and features.

Hey /g/ods

For whatever reason Chrome just won't open on my laptop anymore. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times, I used the Chrome cleanup tool, I've scanned with Maleware Bytes and Windows Defender, neither of which found anything so I don't think it's any form of virus keeping it from opening.

Thinking of creating a RAID array, since I'm on a relatively tight budget with concerns to harddisks is there any reason as to why I should use RAID 1 over RAID 5 or 6, or is there something even better/cost effective when it comes to data redundancy?

I have never legitimately solved one of pic related.

I realized they would make the perfect encryption engine, like an enigma machine on steroids.

I programmed a virtual rubix cube that encrypts data files

each spot on this virtual rubix cube instead of being color coded holds a single byte of the soon-to-be encrypted file. The cube will scale in size to be suitable loading the entire plaintext file into. During the read/write process it performs logical shifts on the bytes.

The encryption engine can make any transformation a rubix cube can (the normal twists along x y and z axis) as well as a few transformations I came up with to give it some more entropy on the output.

is this what they call autism?

Unless uptime is a critical concern, find another solution than raid. It only protects you from drive failure, which is one of many risks you face. In other words, raid is the worst form of 'backup' for most situations. Try setting up another storage solution somewhere else on your own network if internet bandwidth is a concern.

Brief question on study technique

Let's say I'm studying a new language from a textbook, alone, and it takes ten chapters out of twenty before I'm caught on something I can't reliably replicate or understand.

Should I stop and continuously review that subject until I get it before moving on, or should I finish the book and return to it? Does reading the book still have value or can it actually help me to move forward a bit and then come back to something?
>>
>>60986992
I am using the NTFS file system. At C:\ a filename can only be 255 characters long. I need my max filename length to be at least 10,000 characters long.
>>
>>60987024
so stop using ntfs
>>
>>60987040
I considered that. However, most filesystems have a max filename length of 255 basic ASCII characters. Even Reiser4 that has a maximum filename length of 3,976 bytes which equals 3,976 basic ASCII text characters is not long enough. Source:

Hey guy just did a quick free bootcamp.

We just learned to build the front-end of website using bootstrap, and some resume devoplement shit. It was a waste of time. Just the basics of HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

What else to I need become a "fullstack Dev"?

I want to learn the back-end and the frameworks involved.

Also, how would I go about deciding the most optimal way to create a page? What kinda of things should I be thinking about.

install node.js and a database e.g. postgres and you are all set

you need to define optimal in which dimension. Usually you do what is asked by the customer. If you are building your own stuff, you pick the technologies which work best for you and you are familiar with

>personally I like to start from my domain data and think about what kind of information I would like to persistently store and query, then create the database/tables, add the CRUD actions on the backend, then display the data in a html table/grid in the front. CSS to taste, but using bootstrap can handle 99% of that

What is a good notes/to-do app that has both mobile app and browser support.

First I used Endnote until they went full retard with pay-for-offline-notes (and also 100mb for a notes app seriously fuck u endnote).

I used google keep afterwards for to-do lists, but the functionality is too limited. You can make labels but then you can't set one label as the default page, and when you sort by label you can't rearrange them anymore.

So basically what I am looking for is something to combine both notes (think longer reads for later) and to-do lists.

>>
>>60988474
>>60988484

Ignore that guy, you absolutely do not need to learn assembly and you absolutely do not need to learn c to learn c++, that's not how it works

Do learn an easier object oriented language first, you should be good enough going into c++ that syntax is no longer a barrier and just understanding general concepts becomes your focus.
>>
>>60988568
why is assembly not a good way to learn howow computers work?
>>
>>60988605

Learning how assembly works isn't the same as learning how to code in assembly, you absolutely should how machine code and abstraction have built up to what we have, but you don't actually have to go back in do it. Especially if his end goal is to learn C++, C++ has better tools for getting similar performance out of your functions as Assembly. Basically if you learn C++ you'll never end up using Assembly for professional work.

you need to be more specific about it
like instead of loop use
+"loop os"

iptables

another thing i often use is say
-something

where i do not want "something" in the results
like say to cut down on java (the language) results, you could do "-language -oracle -sun", or so

As soon as I start a torrent, svchost.exe starts downloading something, eating 1/3 to 1/2 of my bandwidth, and when I pause the torrent, svchost stops as well, it can't be a coincidence.
I can't block it because if I do my internet stops working.
How do I stop this shit /g/?

Read up on what svchost does before you start bitching about it

I'm on Debian stable and I mistakingly installed lxde instead of lxde-core. It installed a bunch of unnecessary things like deluge. I uninstalled deluge but am afraid it will come back when the lxde package updates. How do I fix this?

Delete lxde and its deps then install what you wanted

For what I can understand, it contains windows services.
But still, it's not normal what it's doing with my torrents, and if it is, please explain me why it's doing it, and if it's possible solve this problem.

Let your fucking computer manage its self.
It does it way better then you for the past 30 years

This is a non issue

I have an i5 7600k & MSI Krait Z270 mobo, so all I realistically need for now is ram.
Instead of that, I was thinking about selling the cpu/mobo for a bit of a profit (bought them on sale), and buying an R5 1400.
Which would be the better option? I'd assume Ryzen since it's supposedly going to last 4 years, and has twice as many threads.
>>
>>60991375
Then explain me why it's doing it isnted of insulting. I'm here to learn, and I don't like the fact that I can't download to my full potential because of this.

LITERALY read what svchost does.
Im not here to regurgitate something you can do a search on
>>

I read that it manages multiple DLLs containing windows services.
Ok, that's fine, but I really can't understand why it only uses bandwidth while I'm downloading a torrent.

My computer's stuck on the BIOS splash screen on boot since yesterday? Pressing F2, delete or anything for that matter doesn't do anything. I've also tried disconnecting and reconnecting all my USB devices and disconnecting both of my drives, but nothing's worked this far. Any ideas?

I need a program for Linux that fucks with the size of the display. Not like resolutions, but actually squishes the active area on the screen, like you'd drag a window with your cursor or something.

I have a chinese windows/mac-only g. tablet that doesn't adhere to ANY screen ratio and w/o the app it coems with I can't resize its workspace so fucking with the screen size is the only way I can fix it.

I'm taking a Java class (it's a required course) and so far I haven't had any issues, but this one has thrown me for a loop. I'm sure the reason is simple and I am looking over it.

public static void main(String[] args)
{
// create hammer invoice
Invoice hammer = new Invoice("5a", "a hammer", 2, 7);

System.out.printf(hammer.getPartNumber(), hammer.getPartDescription(), hammer.getTotalQuantity(), hammer.getUnitPrice(), hammer.getInvoiceAmount());
}
private static void printInvoice(String num, String desc, int quant, double price, double total)
{
System.out.printf("Number: %s\n | Description: %s\n | Quantity: %d\n | Price: %d\n | Total: %.2f\n", num, desc, quant, price, total);
}

When I run the program I only get "5a" as output. Everything else in the printf doesn't happen. I tried adding newlines and flushing the output buffer and there was no difference.
>>
>>60992585
Read the docs for System.out.printf, then ask yourself where the format string is.

Yeah, blast it with air. Get an air compressor (one for tires would unironically be OKAY).

Protip: when using it on a fan, hold the fan still while doing it so you don't wear out the bearings.

>>60992585
Where are you calling the method "printInvoice()"? Is it in the constructor?

for a quick example;
lets say the tablet is 1024x600, and you want 1280x768 instead
panned (scroll by hitting the edges with your mouse);
xrandr --output LVDS-0 --panning 1280x768

scaled (stretch to fit);
xrandr --output LVDS-0 --panning 1280x768 --scale 1.25x1.28

I use expressVPN and I think it's great. I would only use a free vpn if you're trying to get out of blocked sites like at a school. If you're trying to actually stay private online get paid vpn that doesn't keep logs, other than that they are pretty much all the same.
>>
>>60991755
Also, some vpn's will allow torrenting and some won't. Read the FAQ to find out info on that. They will generally tell you if they allow it.

The bigger it is the less reliable.
Green series which for a reason got discontinued.

Avoid 5200/5400rpm WD HDDs, look for HGST too.

Yeah, its called a UPS. They have voltage regulators and a battery built in, giving you, depending on the model around 5 minutes for the power to stabilize or for you to shut your PC down.

Anything that gets between the UPS (highly unlikely) and your computer's transformer is going to be so negligibly benign that it amounts to no more than say, an ant trying to push you out of your chair with its mightiest shove.
