Hello, anons! Is there a /g/ approved VBScript e-book? I know VBScript and anything Microsoft is a meme here but one of my job requirements as a junior tester is to maintain old VBS scripts and I know barely anything about it. the "x86" refers to the architecture, as in "<number goes here>86"
starting with the 8086, then 80186, 80286, 80386 (first 32bit model), etc
up to 80686 (pentium pro+), which is the last one before AMD64 was introduced into the mix, adding 64bit support

"x86" in modern usage refers to 80386 through 80686 (or 386-686, it's common to drop the preceding "80"), which are all 32bit

as for "x64", that's just a microsoft thing, microsoft came out with "Windows XP 64-bit edition", which was for intel itanium, not AMD64, so when itanium flopped and they made an AMD64 windows instead, they couldn't simply call it "64-bit", as they had already done that, and it'd be confusing

Looking for suggestions on a monitor. Must be 144hz and 1440p. Will consider ultrawide.

However my stupid question is about adaptive sync (Freesync and GSync) - I used to have pretty bad screen tearing on my old GPU and used Vsync whenever not playing a competitive game, but now that I have a 1070 I don't have screen tearing at all or its very minimal and doesn't bother me so I don't use vsync because of the input lag. I currently use a 60hz monitor - if I start using 144hz will I start to get screen tearing if I can't hit at least 144 frames in games?

This is an advanced stupid question
Mostly, I'm asking so I don't have to boot up my Leenux... that would be an easy way to fix it but I'm lazy and want to do things the hard way.

So, this zip disquette won't allow Windows 7 to mount it in any way. GNU/Linux mounts it fine, and it's formatted NTFS viewed through GNU/Linux.

Simple problem. I want to be able to fix it through Windows, but I can't see any way without formatting it.
If there's no solution, I'll accept that and go fix it with GNU/Linux.

I recently installed Arch Linux and have gotten kinda used to it over the past few weeks.
So yesterday, I go to an autistic /tv/ related flash requiring stream
Mind you, I use firefox and dont have pepper-flash instled, rather the adobe package from the official repo

So said stream had neither video nor sound, after refreshing a bunch of times and tampering with js permissions I got it to run video but sound was dead
I checked for ALSA priorities, correct output and all but no fucking sound

So i said fuck it and went to grab a beer, by the time I was back sound was working perfectly well.

What did i do so right?
Did it just bug out on me?
Anyone have an idea what that was about?
I still can't get it to work on a 100% basis

Mechanically, to make an ISO work as a boot from flash device, you need to format (a partition on) the flash device as iso9660 (or UDF? not entirely sure) type for a motherboard(?) to be able to read it as an ISO.

If you just drop an ISO file inside an already formatted and used USB disk, you're going to be shit out of luck.

To explain in layman's terms,
Download Rufus, or any other "iso flash disk burner" utility (rufus is tried and tested - not sure of any controversy lately, if there IS any), and create a bootable flash drive with that utility.

The flash drive will have to be clean, or be cleaned by Rufus. It has to empty the drive entirely. You cannot recover data from it. Make sure you store your files somewhere else.

1. Did you use an automatic installer for Arch?
2. Did you install regular firefox?
3. Did you at least try pepper-flash - or, perhaps, gnash?
4. Did any other users have problems with the stream?

My thoughts:
Either your network may have been shitting itself, Adobe's flash sucks through Firefox (I think flash is just starting to get wholly deprecated in general), or you have special Firefox configurations going on in the background that may conflict.

Please update me with responses so I can help you.

My suggestion is to buy a new USB drive, or find an old one kicking around and format that.
If you need to use it once, then back up, use Rufus, (which does it automatically and will probably format FAT32 or exFAT) then throw the stuff back onto it.

Actual stupid question here, how can I know what chipset a non booting laptop has? My desktop has become significantly slower than my laptop when it comes to loading webpages, and often times out when I'm solving captchas. I can only assume that this is because of the usb wifi I use for on my desktop. I'm currently using this:

The thing I don't understand is how it has gotten slower over time. What I'd honestly suggest, is to find the source of the stream, and try to configure MPV to run it. Run MPV along the side with the videostream, still use the website (probably block the element of the stream itself [and write down the actual source of the stream so you remember it!] so the bandwidth isn't doubled but you can still chat) for chatting, I guess.

Kind of just use two programs to... get that experience. MPV and Firefox. I think that's the best way to fix your problem. If anyone else has a better way, I'd wish them to help out as well.

Both, first from usb drives then from an external mechanical disk because it took too long to image the ISOs on the flash drives to get the same result. Thats when I realized the ports were being powered off for no reason (the external drive spins down and led indicator turns off too). It's strange, I thought at least I'd get an error message. Those ISOs boot fine from VirtualBox too.

I thought by looking up the system board model I would find something, seems to be "81F1" that is shared among many models of different specs. This laptop that im trying to fix has an N3710 Braswell cpu but I think that is irrelevant to the chipset used.

In my opinion, Thunar is one of my favorite graphical file browsers. Typically, I'd use ranger if graphics were limited on my machine. Thunar, if my machine were to be powerful.

What's a good torrent software for linux? What should I seed? Preferably something that helps other people. I have a fast connection but it feels like a waste of money because I don't torrent.

Since my thread isnt getting any attention, Ill just ask here.

RAID-10; what do? 4 drives only. I have these 7 to choose from.

2x 250GB 7200rpm (non-matching brands)
2x 250GB 5400rpm (non-matching brands)
3x 160GB 5400rpm (Hitachi + models exactly the same).

My top options are:
1 - buy a 4th Hitachi ($12.50) and RAID-10 the 4x 160GB drives
2 - RAID-10 the 4x 250GB drives (even though no models match)

How do I force Windows 7 to make windows that are larger then my monitor?

I want to capture enormous zoomed in Google Earth Pro images because the print function of GEP is trash and I'm trying to make very large zoomed in maps of neighborhoods and large chunks of small towns.

(Just stitching together lots of 1070x1070 squares isn't working very well because Things in the center of google earth maps look different from things around the boarders even if you position the viewing angle as straight vertical.

They could be dicking with anyone that they can determine is using a VPN. Try downloading something legit, like a Linux distro without the VPN and see what happens.

I am trying to create a RAID5 with 4x 8TB drives, but even tho each has been formatted to 7.27TB, and used inside the PC, the RAID controller only sees each drive as 1.2TB
Before I had 3x 2TB drives and that RAID came out fine.

Whats going on?

Trying that now. Speeds seem to be fine torrenting Ubuntu with no VPN.

Why does my external hard drive keep saying I don't have permission to view/change/move files or use them?
It's in ntsf format and I view it on both windows and linux, for some reason it's done this a few time and I have to format it every time because I don't know what to do or how to stop this from happening.
I simply wish to use all of my files on both computers and transfer files sometimes.

Nor mater what raid I make, its always 1.2TB each drive. And even though it says it created a RAID, when I boot up to windows it still sees each drive, but unallocated.

I made no changes from my old RAID other than taking the HDs out.

Years ago I had a provider doing things like that when I VPN'd into work from home. If your provider is a known entity, they can notice the connection and throttle you. Does using the VPN get throttled no matter what your doing om it?

Traffic analysis. It's often possible for them to tell what kind of traffic is on your connection, depending on how your VPN is set up and how determined they are. With enough effort they may even be able to tell what webpages you visit and when with moderate accuracy. Nobody cares that much with torrents though. The main things ISPs care about are reducing bandwidth usage and not being legally on the hook for your pirating. Neighther of those warrant a heavy duty analysis

if you're stitching, turn off 3D buildings

otherwise,there are some free tools that allow you to resize larger than your resolution (http://ynea.futureware.at/cgi-bin/infinite_screen.pl) is one I found
but at least for this one it doesnt support the screenshot larger than windows resolution, even with third party tools like greenshot using a 'window capture' method

I think your best bet (if you want to use screenshot workarounds instead of stitching) is to just use a VM with a big enough resolution for it, if google earth works with that

No, only when I'm torrenting. But my torrent speeds were not affected. I was torrenting Ubuntu at 5MB/s while speed tests were saying I only had 2Mbps speeds and websites took forever to load. That's what's really confusing me. Torrenting with my VPN is fine but it makes everything else unusable. As soon as I pause the torrent my speed tests go back to my normal speeds.

I'm not well versed in networking but I don't understand how that works. The VPN encrypts all my traffic so all my ISP sees is random data being sent to the VPN server right? Unless they're decrypting the data how would they know what is being sent? But my speeds were not throttled when I tested it with the VPN off, so I'm pretty sure my ISP isn't the issue.

It's not "random" data. They can still see how much is sent data and when, and roughly what shape it takes. It's kind of like trying to identify objects by their shadows. But if your ISP was the issue, it would most likely be because they just throttled the VPN connection as a whole.

I'm trying to install Posready 2009 on my second HDD, and I'm getting errors saying that it cannot find any Mass-Storage drivers on my usb to install.

I don't know where to find the correct drivers, google is not helping.

Nor do I know how to put them on a USB correctly, do I have to make a folder called Drivers, and put them in there? I'm not sure what format they should even be in to be honest.
