It's nice what they're doing but c'mon. Apple is just now getting around to making devices which are higher than 60hz. What about all the nice flat screen TVs that have been around for ages? What about gaming monitors like mine which can go up to 165hz? Once again, it's nice what they're doing, but they certainly aren't the first to do this nor are they a driving force.

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a laptop for uni and really like the look of the macbook pros. I wasn't planning on taking my PC with me so I'd be using it to handle all my tech shit. Do you guys think a dual boot macbook will suffice for typical student shit and then some? I'm going for computer science but I'd imagine the specs of the pro would be fine for the kinds of software I may end up using.

That’s not quite true. The new models are roughly equivalent to the MacBook Air, which makes them more than good enough for a lot of things. That said, I don’t know that I’d say that an external ultrawide would be one of those things, I’d want to see it in action before I pulled the trigger. My MBA spins up pretty good when I do Target Display to my iMac.

I had a Nexus 6, the first Moto X (a pseudo-Nexus upon which the N6 was based), and a Galaxy Nexus. I miss almost nothing about Android. Yes, it *does* more, but when you have an attractive, consistently-designed phone that almost always functions, you don’t really feel the need to do all that extra shit as much.

What you gain is interactivity between devices. For instance, when your iPhone rings, your iPad and Mac will ring as well (if you configure them that way), and not only can you accept the call on whichever device you choose, but you can hand the call off to a different device mid-call if circumstances should change.

Web pages and content from other apps can also be “handed off” from one device to the other. If you have a web page on your iPhone that you’re tired of reading on your iPhone, there’ll be a spot on your MacBook’s dock where you can open the page in question immediately.

And all of that is to say nothing of AirDrop (pushing files and other content to other devices), AirPlay (Apple Chromecast), and AirPrint (print from any device without drivers due to a standardized infrastructure, what a novel concept!).

You probably already know a bunch of this, though. I guess the tl;dr of it is that the iPhone extends the Apple ecosystem into the cellular network.

Mobile-wise they're great phones. The 6 was stolen from me and for my next phone I looked at Android phones, but eventually settled with a 5c because Androids are shit. I went to 5s (Missed dat touch ID), then went to 6+ (dat size) and now its the perfect phone for me.

i am glad so many modern app devs use auto layout now. Only a few apps have to be upscaled to fit the new resolution, everything else just works perfectly without a new update for the new resolution.

I think that is its stringers point, way fewer growing pains than the iPhone 4, iPad 3. And iPad Pro 12.9.

I have an iPhone SE because it is small, and an iPad because it does everything it needs to do to be my main computer (of course I have a desktop at home, but it doesn't get used as much as iPad Pro).

I don't know about you, but I'd be miserable trying to get work done on the go or in bed with a phablet. After all, at least this breed of iPad, is not a consumption device. It's a computer.

I never said it will not run as fast as on the latest hardware, but hardware DOES get outdated. The fact is, like other things in life (Nessie, the wage gap, etc), planned obsolescence for most (but not all) of apple's products is a myth. Outliers include the first iPad, iPhone 3GS, and the original MacBook Pro (when only monthly later, a 64 bit one got released).

As per your second point, which I will entertain just because, just go to the App Store and see what options fit your needs. No, not EVERYONE can do EVERYTHING on an iPad Pro, but a lot of us can, and then some.

I have an ancient desktop PC running Win7 that is slow as fuck and just about dead. Really, really hate Win10 (run it at work), but still have some screwy apps that only run on winblows.
Been thinking about getting new iMac 5K, but worry I won't be happy because of losing the ability to run windows apps. Not crazy about idea of dual booting, etc.

It's actually quite nice in my experience. The thing I've found most useful is being able to respond to texts and calls from my desktop without picking up the phone.

I'm sure you can set that up on Android though so it's up to you whether you like that or not.

2012 is before they started using LPDDR (i.e. soldered RAM), before they dropped the disc drive (from the 13-0inch model), used standard 2.5-inch HDDs (or SSDs), and are still decent in CPU performance.

On the downside there's no dedicated graphics (on the 13-inch), or disc drive (on the 15-inch), and the graphics card that they come with is very outdated.

But if that's what you want they are still supported and run the latest OSX, and will be compatible with the upcoming High Sierra update.
They're probably the best you can buy in used Macs.
