Ryzen is completely shitting over old 2-chip workstations, and thread ripper is going toe-to-toe with Intel's latest 18/22-core Xeons, so unless you're getting a smoking deal on those racks, it's a safer bet to get 1700s for distributed rendering.

I was gonna get the last gen Opteron based blade server. 16 blades total. $24K is the offer, but I was planning to wait for Epyc release and then get 7-8k shaved off the offer price.

Each blade would be 2x opteron (16c)
