>Type of headphone
IEM
>Comfort level
I will be wearing them at least 2 hours daily, so comfort is important to me
>Sound signature
I really don't know too much about this, but I guess I like a natural, true-to-original sound. Definitely not a fan of excessively bassy ones.
>Past headphones
My previous IEM was Teufel Aureol Fidelity. I liked them for a long time, but after I got my DT770 Pro I realised I need a step up in my IEMs, sound-quality wise. They were also not the most comfortable since they'd easily fall out.

>Additional info:
I'll be wearing these IEMs on the bus/train on my commute.
I'd like a big soundstage, but I have no idea whether that's possible in this price range.
I bookmarked the MEE Pinnacle P1 because they seem like a fair deal. I didn't find out whether they'd be underpowered on my phone though. Does anyone know whether they would suffice my wishes?

I hope that's enough information to help me, I appreciate and thank anyone putting effort in for me.

>>
>>60885249
Se215 are good, I like my pair. They have pronounced low end, but not any more than your 770's did. Main thing with them is great noise isolation, I wear them on my motorcycles and can still hear my music without effort so they're good for bus/ train ride I'm sure. I haven't tried the 315, but they're closer to your price range and I've heard more neutral

They are absolutely excellent, especially for the money. The only downside is that they are fragile. At some point the cables will break, most likely at the remote.
If you keep them at your office and don't tangle the cables in your pocket or take them to gym you will enjoy them and they will probably last some time.

Sorry, Anon, never had that problem, what was happening not long ago with mine is that the sound would simply die and only return after disconnecting and reconnecting, however in this case it seems like the culprit was a faulty usb port on my laptop, haven't had the problem ever since i got a new pc.
Are you drivers correctly instaled? Is there any chance you have a bad usb cable connecting it?
Depending on the distortion it could be a problem on the interface itself.

Not related to the discussion but i have a question regarding THD and all that shit.
I currently have the RN3P which has mediocore audio and want to get high quality portable headphones like the MSR7 for example.
I fear that the RN3P will ruin the experience with high quality headphones and consider upgrading to Mi 6 which has excellent audio according to gsmarena or OP5 if they don't fuck it up like the OP4.
Now, while the Mi 6 has excellent audio the test revealed THD and crosstalk rise with the 3.5 jack plugged directly into the phone. They said it's not a big deal and should be fine, will it?

I don't usually see it put like that. It's by far the most important factor. It defines all the linear properties of the headphone. If nonlinear response is kept to minimum, FR defines everything there is to hear. That said the FR measurements are limited in accuracy.

Superlux HD 681
JVC HAFX40

Samson SR950
668B PortaPro
Superlux HD 562

I've been recommended so far in the past year K712/K7XX, DT880 Pro, X2 and T50RP Modded (Argons look intriguing).
Pic related is 668B EQ with AKG K240 velours. The treble doesnt bother me. The SR950 pads sound nice on 668B's as they're thicker and firmer bringing up the subbass that it needs.

I'd still suggest HD600. You can buy it right now. You don't need a new AMP/DAC for it.
>bassy, slightly vshaped, etc
You're using a lot of words to say "neutral with maybe just a little coloring".
Yes, I seriously think you need to go with HD600 for once, considering your history of headphones. It blows all of them out of the water, bass included.
>>

>>
>>60893827
681's were absolutely clean though a bit too bass light for my taste. Stock 668B and PortaPros were too midbassy and lack subbass. SR950 had dat subbass but were muddy in midbass (fixed through EQ). Monks were nice but lacked subbass. JVC's were nice when I get a good seal though mids were too recessed and seal consistency was a gamble giving too bright of a signature. I don't think 600's would be my cup of tea with that bass roll off.
>>60893866
I've heard DT990's were 'treble rape' though graphs seem to look less 'rapey' than 668B's. I've also heard bass extention was decent.

It's easy to misunderstand 600's bass from the FR graph. It does have bass, but it also has midrange and treble.
Moreover, if you really want more bass, it responds well to EQ. I like it without, however. A world better than the 598, bass included.

listening to my piston 3 at the moment, and damn I forgot how good they sound. as good or better than $100+ headphones and they were like $18.

but the tip selection is a pain. It helps that I have a ton of spare tips laying around.
the bore is pretty thin, and the way the housing and my ears work, I either need a fat and shallow tip to plug up the outer ear or a thinner and longer tip to get a good seal deeper it. multi-flanges hurt my ears and don't work well for me anyways. standard tips, that are short and on the smaller side don't get deep enough for me before the housing hits my ears. luckily I had some comply foams laying around and they sound amazing. I'm finally getting all the bass and good channel balance. but these things disintegrate after a while, I'm sure many of you have experienced this. foams that aren't comply don't disintegrate and isolate more, but being so thick they hype up bass quite a bit (though that is good for some IEMs).

I'm wondering, anyone know what the chink comply's are called, and how the codes for them work? and are they as good as real comply tips?

>K712/K7XX, DT880 Pro, X2 and T50RP Modded

mild brightness:
K712, k7XX, X2

outright bright:
dt880

not bright at all (stock and most mods):
t50rp

the AKG have more of an upper-mids emphasis, the X2 is more of a mild highs sparkle. dt880 is the brightest but also has the best bass extension, and a slightly higher bass level than AKG. X2 will have the highest bass level if you like that thump. t50rp has great bass extension but not as much impact, it has a more classically warm sound.

if I were you I would get the k712 or the X2. K712 will be more analytical, the brightness is more present, it's not as warm but still has bass. the X2 is more "fun", more perceptible bass thump, not as analytical or bright, but with a touch of added energy up top or cymbals and the like.

also build quality:
t50rp + X2 > dt880 > AKG

it should also be noted the dt880 is the only one with a fixed cable.

I've got many cheap IEMs on my watch-list but it seems if you want good balance you have to bump up the price some. standard cheap IEMs are very v-shaped. decent cheap IEMs less so but it's still there, the good ones aren't really fatiguing though. if you want to get into the ballpark of mild deviations from neutral though, you gotta break the $30-50 wall it seems. Phiatons I've been told are like a warmer ety that doesn't require deep insertion and I've seen them as low as $50.

sad the piston 3 is gone and all the new ones aren't as good. I actually paid almost double my first piston 3 to get a second pair in the last weeks you could still get the real ones by shelling out. now unless you get them from a small lesser known store or you know someone on head-fi or something, I think all the readily available ones are fakes or the youth/colorful edition.

it might be worth getting the youth ones, I've heard they're not as good but they're probably less colored than the hybrid, air, and piston 2. or buy pic related for $7 and be content with decent sound and amazing comfort.

Neither. Pretty much either of them sucking (i.e.: having issues) will fuck the end result.
A chain is as strong as its weakest link.
In audio you want that to be your ears. Or the audio file you're playing. If not, at the very least the headphones.
If it's the dac or amp, that seriously sucks and your setup is horribly broken.

You ask for a template but ignore it to shill the HD 600 and Fulla 2. You even started using the avatars again, only this time renamed.

>someone asks advice on integrated amp
>better recommend him some schiit and hd 600

>someone asks for closed back headphones
>shit on closed back headphones and just shove the hd 600 in there

>help me anons is there a solution to fix distortion
>yeah buy hd 600 even though their distortion isn't impressive

>someone gives a recommendation which wasn't the hd 600
>""prove"" him wrong by explaining how """neutral""" the hd 600 is

>hey i need headphones for max 200e
>just save up for hd 600, you don't actually need the fulla 2 haha

>i really want something else than hd 600
>do as i say because i like them and know better

>no requests to shoehorn hd 600 into
>to hell with it just mention how much you like them anyway

Audeze LCD-1
Hifiman Edition X
Shure SRH1840 (retarded distortion)
KRK KNS6400

There are many other headphones which have smoother frequency responses (easier to equalize to neutral) than the HD600.

Well I posted plenty of options, some of them very affordable. I'd personally take a properly equalized LCD-2 over anything else, based on the graphs at least. (increase in treble from +3 at 1000hz to +10 at 15Khz)

From what I've heard, Audeze generally has decent customer service and warrantys. I'd be wary of purchasing them used though.

Hey /g/ what the fuck is "soundstage"? And how can there be difference in soundstage between different headphones? Sounds like absolute bullshit to me.

They're much better. Less fatiguing treble. Better bass, and less thin sounding.

>>60897717
Etys can be worn for extended periods of time. Depends on the eartips used and the shape of your ear. The slim barrel itself makes insertion much easier than most other in-ears.

There are no real bounds to variety, but Ety-like sound without a deep fit will inevitably interfere with the treble balance.
>>
How come every high-end headphone aside from Sennheiser has reliability issues? Audeze has driver issues, Hifiman has shit QC, and Stax has channel imbalance issues. I haven't heard much about the Focal Utopia but I wouldn't be surprised if it has issues too.

>>60899086
https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/2n5nxw/eli5_what_is_headphone_soundstage_and_why_would_i/

it's leddit but that's a good explanation of soundstage. Just go from a closed to open headphone and you'll understand what soundstage is.
>>

Sennheiser has the snapping and chipping. If you're going to make mountains out of molehills let's not forget that.

Why are you pulling shit out of your ass? Their FR actually measures quite similar to HD600 from bass to upper midrange with a steep fall in the low treble.

I've been using Plugfones to protect my ears and listen comfortably while doing things like mowing the lawn, weedeating, pressure washing, etc but they're delicate as shit and I'm tired of buying a new pair every month. Are there any other ear buds that provide substantial protection against damage-level outside noise? These would be podcast and audiobook only, so sound quality isn't an issue.

Extremely stupid question: when do i need to change the pads on my DT770's? Don't really know how to tell since it's velours and not pleather that will crumble and let you know when to change.

>>
>>60903152
Look at a picture of a new pair of pads.
Smell them.
>>
>>60903235
Already did this and have an urge to buy new ones. Smell isn't the problem, they don't reek of the stench of a thousand rotting corpses.
I've read that new pads can improve or rather restore audio quality and obviously comfort. Idk if the audio quality part is true or utter nonsense.
