I just put freebsd on an old nettop I had laying around. I would like to use it but I can't get it to recognize the intel wireless card I put in it and so cannot connect to the internet to get the rest of the things I need set up.

How the hell do I force it to find and use an intel wireless nic?

Wizards assemble !

Advanced users of GNU/Linux (and I mean advanced), remember to try Source Mage GNU/Linux. True source-based distribution, and (in contrast with Gentoo and Arch) is:
Free from obfuscated and pre-configured code.
Fully committed to GPL, uses only free software (as in freedom) in their main package.
With even the documentation licensed as FDL.
Without 3rd party patches, sensible defaults or masked packages.
Doesn't need obfuscated python libraries, only bash.
Uses clean dependencies as they came from upstream developers, which by the same provides instant updates.
Can heal broken installs.
Can also use flags.

Do you like Arch Linux's AUR? Do you like Gentoo's portgage (or ports-like) package manager? With SMGL's "sorcery" you get all that. Making new spells (packages) not found in the grimoire (repository) is easy http://sourcemage.org/Spell/Book

Bash hackers welcome! Come and join http://sourcemage.org/

Is the Debian support for ZFS on par with FreeBSD?

Concerned mainly with compression and future support.

I just installed freebsd on my acer720 chromebook and the stereo audio speakers aren't working. It seems to be only detecting the HDMI.

from /dev/sndstat:

Installed devices:
pcm0: <Intel Haswell (HDMI/DP 8ch)> (play) default
No devices installed from userspace.

dmesg seems to detect something but don't know what to do with the information:
hdacc0: <Intel Haswell HDA CODEC> at cad 0 on hdac0
hdaa0: <Intel Haswell Audio Function Group> at nid 1 on hdacc0
pcm0: <Intel Haswell (HDMI/DP 8ch)> at nid 3 on hdaa0
hdacc1: <Realtek (0x0283) HDA CODEC> at cad 0 on hdac1
hdaa1: <Realtek (0x0283) Audio Function Group> at nid 1 on hdacc1
hdaa1: hdaa_audio_as_parse: Pin 26 has wrong direction for association 1! Disabling association.
hdaa1: hdaa_audio_as_parse: Pin 33 has wrong direction for association 2! Disabling association.

So, I bricked my laptop by installing OpenBSD 6.0 a while back.

I let that laptop sit for a while because I didn't need it, but I figure I ought to get it working again.

After installing OpenBSD, I wasn't able to boot the OS. Once I get past the BIOS, it just gets stuck on a black screen. This happens even when I put Windows or Linux installation discs and try to boot them.

What do?

try to see if you can find anything here

else look up the two final lines on google, seems like some sysctl tuning may be in order

Can anyone help me with this? I have an obsd laptop and I'd like to connect to multiple wireless networks. I read the man, but I think I must have missed something, because wpasupplicant won't initialize on startup. Here's what my rc.conf.local looks like:
dhclient=YES
dhclient="-nw"
wpa_supplicant=YES
wpa_supplicant_flags="-B -i iwn0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf"

If it's a mini-pci or mini-pci-e card, consider replacing it with a freedom-friendly Atheros card, they are available from $4 on ebay.

Hey /g/oys, I have an OpenBSD-current VPS that I'd like to configure as an L2TP/IPsec VPN for this scenario:

>Passive tunnel for road-warrior PSK connections from these devices: Android 6.0.1 and OpenBSD-current

Do you guys have any guides/recommendations that deal more with the networking side of things? I can configure npppd, isakmpd, and ipsec.conf without difficulty. My problem is figuring out how to get all the pumbing to talk to each other/appoint the correct LAN IP addresses.

Bonus question:

>How to I use relayd to redirect requests on ports 80 and 443 for "example.com" and "www.example.com" to the external server 123.456.789.123?

That's why I said "pretty sure," because I wasn't positive. Also, you don't punctuate statements with a question mark. Those are for questions.

i know it's b8, but if anyone needs to switch wifi easily:

https://github.com/overrider/wireless
>>
>>60888438
writing a script to manage wifi isn't too hard actually, i don't understand why redhat shills come to these generals to complain that there's no networkmanager
>>
>>60888461
agreed, I think the wireless solution is overengineered, and it's 120 SLOC

just wanted to post a turnkey solution for any lurkers on the fence, and bump my question

>>60885969
>>
>>60877380
It's a DKMS module so they can update it without revving the kernel. Modern ZFS on Linux can still be built for 3.1x kernels so Debian 9 will be fine for a long time.
>>
>>60888486
yeah in theory something simpler can be done even in ksh
>>
>>60888461

Yeah better replace init to avoid having to write a script. Replace getty and inetd while you're there. xD

The problem is that Android handles the hash algorithm in a retarded way

I set ipsec.conf to use SHA-256 and the phone sends SHA-1; I set SHA-1 and it sends SHA-256

I remember reading a workaround tucked away in a recent guide for this exact problem. Anyone recall the solution?

help a bro shitpost pls
>>
>>60889105
it's a shame i know so little about networking or else i'd be helping
>>
>>60885969
SOLVED: Follow this guide

https://www.geeklan.co.uk/?p=2019

Use the isakmpd.policy file from here (remove -K in rc.conf.local)

Sup faggots. I bet you wish you used an OS that has developers that actually cared about security.

im unable to scp to a ZFS dataset even when i own the dataset directory or a subdirectory within it and im part of that directories group...

i even got desperate and set the permissions to 666 (drw-rw-rw-) to allow writing for anyone and it still said permission denied to write??

im able to write with root on the same dataset without issue

are permissions n groups broken on freenas?

i never had this issue with linux
>>
>>60890819
security only matters if you can use programs in that environment

technically palmOS has better security since jack shit can run on it and no one targets it with malicous software

that doesnt mean you can get your work done with palmOS or that its convienent
