sorry m8. i don't do linux. my time is precious and i'd rather just click a button rather than type an essay for each little action. just install windows 10, it's really easy.

worst part is I tried this on Windows 10 too and it failed to create an instance :V. Your tone sounds a bit shilly but thats alright I guess. Time to post in /fglt/

hey if this anon is still here, I downloaded the torrent for Windows 7 ultimate and the MSI tool. But, when I try to select the Windows 7 ult. ISO, I get the error code "Invalid Media Please Select the Windows Installation File".

Can I actually make a bootable USB with the MSI tool alone, or do I need to combine it with rufus?
>>
>>60865353
Make the installer with Rufus, only use MSI add USB 3.0 drivers.

Are these settings okay on Rufus?
>>
>>60865381
No, use MBR for Legacy/CSM, its windows 7.
>>
>>60865384
The three options are:
>MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI-CSM
>MBR partition scheme for UEFI
>GPT partition scheme for UEFI

Isn't the one I have selected the one for legacy/csm? Thanks for holding my hand through this btw, my newfaggotry is showing.
>>
>>60865398
Sorry, you were right it is that option, i just checked again.
Yes the settings are ok.

MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI-CSM is Legacy/CSM, i got it messed up because that is how it will show in BIOS.

Using MBR for BIOS/UEFI wont let you activate windows easy, that is why it must be MBR for CSM.
>>
>>60865444
I have it set on MBR parition scheme for BIOS or UEFI-CSM now, thank you

The USB ports stop working when the first windows installer page appears. The USB/keyboard/mouse all turn off and then the compute crashes since the USB disconnected.

Is Legacy USB mode and USB compatibility patch on?

Also i dont remember exactly in ASRock BIOS but there should be a option to change SATA mode from AHCI to IDE.

nah my nig, its just 0's and 1's and they both have the same physical weight
>>
>>60865751
I can get a picture of it in a second, I'll use my phone.

Basically in the USB configuration options:
>XHCI controller enable - Auto
and I have the option to enable/disable

I can only change SATA mode from ACHI to RAID mode.

Also, CSM is enabled and pxe/storage/video are all in legacy mode only. I don't know if this helps at all, i'll take pics soon.

So, I recently installed a GTX 1070 into my PC, and a new processor, and both are working fine. But, for some reason, my mouse and keyboard sometimes don't work when I start up my PC. It usually takes a minute or two for em to start going. And this only started happening after I upgraded. I'm confused.
>>
>>60865845
Oh, should mention, this is a USB pair. Basically, the mouse and keyboard both are attached to a wireless USB, and these are kinda old, they're from 2010 or so.

Try going to Intel or amds website and install the latest chipset drivers then go to your motherboard manufacturers website and see if they have a driver for a separate usb controller or chipset controller

The lack of IDE mode will make things somewhat hard, this is why the installer freezes, example, try booting into the installer with your HDD disconnected and you will be able to continue till you plug it again.

Debotnet version for business since no business wants to be spied.
2016 LTSB is the enterprise version.

No cortana,no edge, updates can be turned off, no windows store, a huge amount of data collection services gone (Telemetry basic still there which can be disabled in a not placeboo way but may break the OS), windows cant set default programs on its own so no more WMP and Edge forcing itself over MPC/MPV and Firefox/Crome, no "ads" so no onedrive and no bing shilling, etc.

might be nice to have for an all-work-and-no-play t-420 or other workstation.
how to acquire it? can get for free? or on the cheap from kinguin? can a regular key work or do you need special impossible to find key?
>>

Mydigitallife forums.

You can download the ISO from anywhere as long the SHA-1 matches.

If you are using a T420 stay with 7 ultimate for the sake of compatibility.

You cant exactly get a key for LTSB so pirate it with MSToolkit is the only option.

After a few Google searches (and other search engine queries as well as Stack Exchange, to be fair),
I haven`t been able if there`s some way of just a simple password protection of folders in Windows 7.

Not encryption. I don`t care if someone takes a look at the folder with Linux - what I want, is when someone tries to navigate to the folder in the operating system, they can`t see inside of it unless they provide the password.

This is a simple case of "I want to store porn on my laptop but I don`t want my friends to be able to find it while it`s live." I'd obviously be fine with using 3rd party software, but I'd prefer it to be something open source, or at least non-adware/bloatware tier...

>>
>>60866481
Update from me;
I'm curious - would a simple "dotfolder" somewhere be capable of being unindexed somehow? Since, if I just hide "hidden" folders (I can easily navigate through the url bar... but it automatically lists the dotfolder as a location in the drop-down suggestion, which is something any retard could figure out), it would be a little bit harder to find the pornstash.

Though, I still would like a 'password access non-encryption' method.

>like i'm dummer than i am

>>
>>60866502
my solution: 3 TB NAS (WD mycloud)

Another stupid question.

Is there, at all, a toolchain available for Windows that integrates with command prompt to make certain features of bash (such as ~/ taking you to your "user" i.e. C:/Users/[me] or even to ./Users/[me]/Desktop <?> ) into it? I don't want a full Linux compatible style terminal, or anything separate, just a command prompt... extension for bash-style navigation. (This includes maybe some easy-deploy aliases like "dir" to "ls", some things like "touch" and "file" as well)

>>60866516
Yes, this would be a good option, if only I weren't dealing with a single laptop running Windows 7. (Professional, I think? I don't believe that matters, however)

This is just an ease-of-use type thing. I'd rather not set up encrypted volumes. I just don't want my buddies to see that I jack it to furry buttholes, you know?
>>
>>60866483
Please halp.
>>
>>60866534
>furry buttholes
well, you could label your folder jokes/memes
or you could add guest account or other account.
if i remember win7 correctly, you can't access other user's data without admin pw.
just be glad your kink isn't traps...
>>
>>60866592
I also like traps. There's a lot of things I like, anon, not just furry buttholes. (To name a few: illithids, generally anything lovecraftian; other unspeakables that would render me as a "really fucking weird guy" but wouldn't break any friendship however)

I might try that guest account thing, but that said, I am the administrator on my machine, and I don't know how to make it so inputting a password for every admin action is necessary. Is that in MS Account Services (or whatever it's called)?

I have a DSL-N66U router (pic related) and the dsl light suddenly stopped working or even flashing at all. I live in a shit hole so sending it to repairs is almost out of the question.

I've heard that some domain registrars are cunts when you try transfer domains. I've heard bad things about ones like GoDaddy.
I've used Dynadot before. They were alright, and I haven't had any issues. It's not really a recommendation; you'll probably get a pretty decent experience with most of them.
However, some registrars sell different domains for different prices, so shop around a bit.

I've been having these weird glitches for a while, can't tell if the problem is my monitor or my graphics card.

I can't even exactly say when it happens.
Half or most of the screen goes white/colored until I look away or scroll the video off screen.

Happens sometimes when playing games and there are lighthing effects on screen (fire, sunset, explosions).

I literally couldn't play Prey until I disabled screen space reflections because everything was just blinding white when I looked outside.

Also happens sometimes when I'm watching videos.

I have an r9 290x.

Didn't use to bother me that much when watching videos, but when I'm playing a game it's annoying as fuck.

See pic.

Thanks.

Anyway: I shattered the screen on my Nexus 4 yesterday. Digitizer is kill so I can't use the screen. I have a custom ROM installed on it. The little fucker won't stay off when I hold the power button and hard kill it. It just boots right back up. What is keeping it rebooting? I need it to stay off, is this a setting in the ROM or is there some sort of corruption in Dalvik cache or elsewhere? I only ask because my alarm is set to go off every morning and I can't dismiss it. Been beeping at me all morning. Thank God I set up the volume buttons to snooze, but I can't keep tending this thing indefinitely, especially since I'm in the office.

Also: whose genius idea over at Teamwin was it to switch over to digitizer interface instead of button interface?

Thanks a lot.
My router doesn't have to be updated / reset / changed then though?
There's 4 or 5 other computers in our houshold connected to there and they're all on cracked W7 versions (of which 2 contain a lot of virusses probably)
Anyway I can get maximum safety?
Or is it better to install my own router, that'd be no problem if I'd be more safe.
>>
>>60868932
>operating systems have everything to do with security.

well yeah in a sense of what programs you execute. which is entirely up to you
a virus can't simply find its way to your computer by accident
>>
>>60868990
on windows it very likely can. the recent hospital issues are prime example for windows being the issue and no user error involved.
>>
>>60868981
keep your windows updated and disallow any connection towards your pc but besides that i see no way to increase the security besides complete separation to the network
though if installing your own router is not a problem then maybe do that that way you´d get that extra bit of safety
>>
>>60868981
you should be more concerned with how you share programs from USB sticks (computer to computer) than routing.
a virus usually infect your hard-drive and messes up with your executive files and scripts.
in theory it can bypass a network but it cannot affect the windows installations of other computers

in other words. it can send data or spy other computers in the network but its very unlikely that it will mess up other computers in the network because its not physically there
>>
>>60869009
all viruses exploit windows in one way or another. but your browser is usually your first line of defense because you get new files from the internet (usually)
>>
>>60869013
Okay thank you, if I don't share any folders or printers with them I'll be safe?
>>60869019
I do not share any programs or folders with the other computers, don't use flash drive to transfer or share any data with them.

Ok so if I don't share anything with them I'll be safe?
>>
>>60869039
>Ok so if I don't share anything with them I'll be safe?

you are safe if you visit only certified websites with SSL certificates like 4chan or google and don't torrent any hacktools or cracks.
if your computer shows infected behavior its best to download a firewall than an anti-virus because it blocks any actions that you didn't permit as an admin
>>
>>60869065
Alright, yeah I will not visit any shady websites or download files without knowing what they exactly are / from untrusted sources.
I was more worried about being connected to the same router as the other infected / cracked computers with my good and healthy one and being part of the same home network.
>>
>>60869090
i can't answer this 100%
you need to understand that viruses have scripted actions. it is most likely that the person who made the virus didn't go through the lengths of adapting it to networks and bypassing routers. its only supposed to mess with your windows exe's and make you pay for fake anti-virus with desktop ads

I've read UPS reduces the chances of hardware damage though I don't know in what circumstances that applies, I imagine it protects from lightnings at least.
>>
>>60869399
Trust me, it's not an issue like that. I have had plenty of experience with family members using the internet and it slowing down. That drops the speed 0.3mb/s and 700 ping.

Right now with nobody on the network and nothing running with and no malware I get good speed and ping according to tests. Try anything online and things either take minutes to load or go instantly. Online games are interesting since other players move normally and can still hit me with seemingly normal ping but I can load them full of shots and nothing happens, if I move I will rubber band back to where I just was. Multiple games.

>>60869471
>If they made cpus bigger, would we be able to increase performance?
Up to a point - a 22-core CPU is obviously bigger than a quadcore of same architecture and you could likely scale it even further. But you want everything to be synchronized, and you're limited by how quickly electricity moves in the medium - while that's a significant portion of lightspeed, you have to remember that we're talking about systems that changes their state billions of times per second. There are also issues with manufacturing: a bigger die is more likely to have defects and you can fit fewer dice on each wafer, so the manufacturing costs go up exponentially. And then there's the heat: with more cores you have higher power draw, which means you have to disperse more heat.

Really, it's just easier and cheaper to have multiple CPUs and then use them in a single system(or a cluster) than try to make one CPU that's as big as you can.

>Like if they were twice as thick could we add more cores (and increase computing power)
Not very easily. If you mean to stack cores vertically as well as horizontally, you again run into thermal issues.

>And if so, do you think we will once we kill Moore's law?
Moore's law is already dead.
>>
>>60869784
Ethernet, always ethernet.

>>60869792
Good man. Your internet could be having problems. Try running the test a couple more times, from another browser/computer if possible. Also see if you can transfer files around the network easily. If you have another router/modem around, see if those work better.

Noting none of this is the tehcnical term for any of it, basically, you program how you want a given logic unit to work, allowing you to make it work as any logic gate you want. How each logic unit should respond to a given output is kept in a table which then provides the appropiate output you told it to give given an input. Program enough of these together, and you can basically make any chip you want (with a huge penalty on absolute clock speed due to the need to look up what to do with each input).

PS: FGPA are actually more complex than this and can involve quite a few other components, but the most important part is this ability to tell a logic unit what you want it to do when given an input and then getting multiple of these together to act like if they were actually the gates you told the logic units to act like.

i don´t have any isos/usable usb sticks at hand but sure why not.

There are multiple ways to achive that ie the first one i posted which without doing it myself is the most accurate i can write up from my memory
the other way which i used for my current w7 stick is rather straightforward
and does pretty much the above completely automated at least it does for me.

Get Yumi-multiboot
then run it and set it to how it is in the pic
and add your win10 iso
then when it asks you if you want to add something else, you go and do the same just with your win7 iso
because of whatever reason instead of copying it seperately it will then go on and overwrite a part of the win 10 installation data with the win 7 installation data
then if everything went well you schould be able to boot into it and select a point that most likely will be called windows 10
that will then open the setup of windows 10 but
both the licensing and the os selection and the installation will be that of win 7

though it´s quite possible that i mistook one or two steps since it´s already some time since i did it

Windows and your motherboard will handle everything.

Check how powerful is your PSU and the rest of your build.
Post a screenshot of speccy and read if your PSU is 430, 500w or 600w.

For this part you have to open yor case btw.
Also check if you have a 4 or 6 pin cable.

If you dont you will have to buy a PCIe only card (GTX 1050Ti for example).

Are there any solutions to pop-ups while browsing some NSFW sites?

uBlock Origin + Tampermonkey with anti-adblock killer script works perfect for most things.

The thing that it doesn't work with is with some pages that run scripts. I tried uMatrix and Scriptsafe, but blocking certain domains from using scripts makes it so I can't load some video players and such.

uBlock had worked so well for me until this last year...

The frontend takes the source code, verifies it, decomposes it into some intermediate form, usually a parse tree structure, which the backend then converts into machine code for the target.
