This thread is for the discussion of NyaaPantsu (pantsu.cat), a free (FOSS) torrent indexer, and other nyaa alternatives.
The aim of this project is to write a fully featured nyaa.se replacement in golang that anyone will be able to deploy locally or remotely.

>Why is Pantsu down/error 502?
Most likely because the team is deploying changes. Wait for a bit and refresh the page. It should be mostly stable now.

I think nyaa.si is better since it's handled by the old nyaa.se guys. Closer to the original.

I think the guys who made pantsu got really upset about nyaa.si devs for some bizarre reason. They refuse to list in their general and get unbelievably pissy if you ask about it. I don't know what the point of having a "Nyaa Replacement General" is if you don't list any replacements except for your pet project though.

I used to think that pantsu was the best but they're into form over function now.

Would it be possible to ignore the scraped date of scraped torrents and have pantsu add the date based on when the scraped torrent gets added into the pantsu DB instead? That would make more sense.
>>
Could you please add pseudo-anonymous upload again?

Also, the site isn't reachable from Windows XP at all, because of the encryption method or something. You might want to reconsider that. At the least that locks out a portion of Chinese users.
>>
>>60869081
No it won't. A first big scrap and there'd be a huge flood of new torrents that actually aren't new.
Scraped torrents should have their original date.

Perfectly reachable from Firefox. Anyway, you should install SSL/TLS 1.2 Update from https://trac.mpc-hc.org/ticket/6058 to upgrade XP's SChannel capabilities a bit if you're still using XP.
>>
>>60869595
>A first big scrap and there'd be a huge flood of new torrents that actually aren't new.
Yes but to the pantsu tracker, it'll be new right? So when people sort the db on pantsu, it won't have weird dates because they're all according to the dates uploaded to pantsu itself, not the original tracker. There's really no reason to add the original trackers dates since you're not sorting using the original tracker but pantsu.
>>
>>60869768
They're not weird dates, they're dates of original release. That's some useful info about a release while the info about when it was scraped by pantsu is completely useless.
>>
>>60869739
>>60869574
Oh never mind, my Firefox wasn't even up-to-date.
>>
>go away for a week
>come back
>mafuyuu still says "nyanpasu" when you click on her
What gives?
>>
>>60869878
The thing is you don't need the date of when they first uploaded to the original tracker since you're not using the original tracker in the first place. It's more relevant to have the date related to when the torrent was uploaded to pantsu, whether it was scraped or not.
Think of it this way. Guy uploads a torrent to tracker A. Few days later, he uploads it to tracker B. It's considered a new entry on tracker B, so having the date on based on when it was uploaded to tracker A makes no sense since he uploaded it to B only later. It works the same way for the tracker.
Not to mention, having the dates look all fucked up on the index makes it look more like the scraper is bugged instead.
It only makes sense to sort torrents by date based on when it was uploaded to pantsu, whether it was scraped or not. When I sort torrents on pantsu, I want to know the date it was uploaded to pantsu, not to the original tracker whereever it was.
>>
>>60869918

>since you're not using the original tracker in the first place
And that's the exact reason why I do need the original date because I don't want to go to the original tracker to find out just this or have a torrent timestamped as fresh which can actually be a several years old one.
Besides, just imagine pantsu have done a deep full scrape and now you have to scroll through 100+ pages of shit before you'd get to torrents posted just a day before. That's pure autism, gtfo with your insane ideas.
>>
>>60869949
Eh, I prefer the date it's uploaded to original tracker since it's closer to the date that file is released to public.
The date it's added to a no-name tracker doesn't mean shit to a normal user.
It's not like pantsu exclusively use pantsu tracker anyway.

>Not to mention, having the dates look all fucked up on the index makes it look more like the scraper is bugged instead.
They should've make it sorted by the original date instead.
Something like this
https://nyaa.pantsu.cat/search?order=false&sort=2
Then make the sort by scraped date a hidden feature or something, since I guess it'll be neat feature for debugging.

That's a very bad decision if you're seriously concerned aboud users' privacy. All of proxy's traffic (let alone access logs) are captured and stored for 3 years, and this data can be easily sold to any foreign party interested in it by the hoster, or just traded for some service from the foreign legal authorities by the local ones if they'd need it. And the server itself could be seized and analyzed without much of juridical efforts or just taken down easily without any of them. Nowadays it's not worth to host *anything* in Russia let alone some shady stuff. Also, sukebei.nyaa.se was banned in Russia due to some indecent stuff on it, so hosting this kind of proxy in Russia is the quickest way to attract unnecessary attention and get banned again.

I honestly don't see how this improves on over9000 year old TT apart from somewhat replicating the appearance and user experience of the old NT, which in my mind is a huge negative since NT was fugly as hell. No surprise considering the USA was involved, Kanzler-Akte etc. But in Russia you just don't know who may be involved in situations like this and whether it's an issue of power or an issue of money. Moreover, Russia is sucking copyrighters' dicks left and right despite all its anti-western propaganda bullshit - it's not a safe haven for pirates anymore. Think of Russia as having a near-Chinese level of Internet censorship and despotism but without the Chinese attitude to copyright.

CORS prohibits tracker scraping, would it be possible to add the appropriate headers for doing requests to https://tracker.doko.moe:6969 ?
>>
>>60882804
Scraping in javascript isn't that good of an idea - every user loading the page will launch a shitton of XHR against the tracker. The stats SHOULD be cached serverside.
>>
>>60882830
One request issued per page load. It's already receiving 9k scrape requests/min, this won't make a noticeable difference. You can get multiple torrents in one go.

You know we are monitoring this, right
>>
>>60882943

>>
>>60882894
It will make a difference if pantsu has even a third of the traffic they claim. Besides, the tracker performance is not as relevant as the user experience - XHRing the stats will take some time.
>>
>>60883045
But any torrent downloaded from pantsu will use the doko.moe tracker anyway. You only need to do one request for all the torrents on the page. Scrape requests need much less CPU than announces, and announces are done once every 10 minutes for each torrent for each peer.
>>
>>60883109
Scraping requests use much more database time (looking for all the torrents stats). I'm not concerned about the tracker performance on the actual torrenting, but doing client-side requests for the stats (EVERY PAGE LOAD! FOR THOUSANDS OF USERS!) is fucking retarded. You don't need live stats, just serve them from the server!

Why do you need so many?
>>
>>60886728
I'm going to setup GeoDNS soon so you will connect to the closest server available, making it faster for you and also multiple servers = less load per server.
>>
>>60886843
>multiple servers = less load per server.
Aren't they just proxies?
>>
>>60886879
They cache static content, and even then they have a limited amount of load so just 1 reverse proxy wouldn't be able to handle all the traffic pantsu gets.
>>
>>60886617
I'm curious to see how much all the reverse proxy cost. Can't wait for transparency report. Godspeed Miao and the whole pantsu team.
>>
>>60886900
Couldn't you just have them forward the connections directly, including HTTPS and all? You could use untrusted VPSes with extremely poor CPUs then. Static content could be handled on a separate domain.
Also, do you know anything about >>60886556
?
>>
>>60886556
>Do you have their consent?
What? They have APIs.
>What'll be integrated?
What do you think? Anime information.
>>
>>60886987
You need an account for the API.

Yes, but in what manner?
>>
>>60887018
So what's your point? Most APIs require some sort of account to keep track of your usage and stuff.
>>
>>60886945
I'm only taking caring of hosting i haven't been aware of most of the software related stuff also even if i did that it still puts quite a bit of load on the servers, i think letting it cache the static content and that way speeding up content delivery to other users like for example where most are from, japan.
>>60886930
It's not really that expensive, they aren't extremely high quality servers but low range vps servers used as reverse proxy's. I'll post the expenses report at about 1st July
>>
>>60887101
>low range vps servers used as reverse proxy's.
heh, good move
>>
>>60887061
They might not enjoy that particular usage of their API, getting associated with "piracy" isn't too great from a legal perspective. Also it's pretty harshly rate limited and doesn't support the specific type of query you want (file size -> release ID, have to go release ID -> file size IIRC)
>>60887101
>even if i did that it still puts quite a bit of load on the servers
Why? Forwarding port 443 and 80 should be extremely low load, especially if iptables and not SSH is used.
>letting it cache the static content
This could be done on a separate domain which possibly won't even need a reverse proxy since nothing illegal is done. Or pomf clones with permission.
>>
>ctrl + f "zeronet"
>0 results
hmmm
>>
>>60887310
Not suitable.
>>
>>60887188
Oh thats what you mean, but that would mean i wouldn't be able to cache the static content on the closest servers, so it wouldn't really work how it supposed to work and theres no point, im using nginx for the reverse proxy.
>>
>>60887358
You could handle static content on a separate port. There are faster servers than nginx written in assembly for static content.
It would remove the trust you place in the VPSes and enable you to use even cheaper ones.
You could even let random people run reverse proxies on their residential connections on the ephemeral ports, all the info they get is that someone connected to nyaapantsu, not what they downloaded or if they downloaded anything.
>>
>>60887463
Letting random people run reverse proxy's wouldn't work out because they would be able to log user ip's.
>>
>>60887696
But are these IPs sensitive information?
Connecting to nyaa isn't a crime in itself, and they can get the IPs from the tracker or DHT if they want to anyway. But sure, there are some issues with it.

Do you have any information on the AniDB integration or file size searching?
>>
>>60887741
It could be used in some country's as proof of doing illegal stuff, and besides thats the reason we removed cloudflare, so no one else has our user's iP's, and no i don't you should ask PantsuDev for that information.

>>

dude, 10 years is a long time. Things change, people change, personal goals that were important a decade ago might not be in line with today's life goals. Money can buy anything besides. >>
>>60889525
Then he should've transferred the domain first.
>>
>>60889543
Technical stuff.
But substance remains, he bailed out, probably he didn't want to deal with anime anymore. What could be the motives for a comeback? It was already clear that ad money didn't cover the infrastructure expense and he had to pour big money to let us have the great service we experienced.
>>
>>60889608
There should be no reason to extend the domain then.

>>
>>60889608

>>
>>60889608
"Sperg out" to cause people to create backups, then bring back and have the usage spread ou between multiple trackers to lower costs is my best guess.
>>

>There should be no reason to extend the domain then.
This, except for >>60889672 and >>60889674 ,
that were my closest guess at first.
But because of all the drama it started, I don't think anyone is gonna put much trust in that (in terms of uploaders and traffic). And I can tell you, money can buy anything. He might have it extended just because he had a deal with some advertisers or is going to sell traffic. Do not expect same quality contents if it ever spawns back.
>>
>>60889658
Though he haven't extended tracker domain ownership. Without it old but still seeded torrents have no benefit from the supposed return of nyaa.se, which in turn doesn't have any sense whatsoever.

Yeah, but the ECJ basically ruled that you're still infringing copyright by hosting torrent files and magnet links. In some of your replies to those takedown requests I noticed you said that you're not doing anything wrong because you're not hosting the actual content, but just the torrent files.

Looked a bit into this.

HttpFox shows NS_ERROR_ABORT and no response from server.

Network tab under web console shows a 0ms 0KB insecure connection. This may not mean much but I suppose it indicates not even TLS negotiation succeeded.

I tried openssl on the CLI, and funnily enough a connection to nyaa works perfectly but status.pantsu.cat, still behind cloudflare and with a COMODO cert, fails, even though that site loads just fine in my browsers.

I even captured some of my firefox traffic and there are differences between a request to nyaa and one to status, but I can't make sense of it. I can see, though, that a successful connection to status shows mostly "application data" and client/server hello packets, but my failed connection to nyaa shows an "encrypted alert" from me to nyaa followed by an exchange of FIN ACKs. I think there's something fishy going on with TLS.

Here's a dump: https://p.teknik.io/wLucj. First connection is to nyaa, then 4 seconds in to status.

Date, look at the sign.

Oh, and by the way, yes, I did try disabling all my addons, no dice.

There's already plenty of well established and functional mod sites. But a category wouldn't hurt.
>>
>>60886617
Explain this to me.
>>
>>60902854
>>60902854
Can confirm. I also did a packet capture and saw myself sending an "encrypted alert (21)" to the server before closing the connection. I'll try to look more into it later.
>>
>>60903123
Oh also I think it started for me after they stopped using cloudflare. Not sure though.
>>
>>60903315
I'm pretty sure that is the case. I haven't seen pantsu with a let's encrypt cert on firefox.

I don't understand, what's wrong with Magnets? I thought the goal was always to move away from .torrents to magnets. (not that there's anything wrong with having both)

As an aside; I've been torrenting for probably 8 years now and I have never once ever felt the need nor inclination to use RSS feeds. Is it really that much effort to go to [website] once a week, click .torrent or magnet link, and have your torrent client open it up? I just don't see the need for that "automation". So unless you all have been using RSS for something other than automatic downloads once an [episode] is released I just don't get it.
>>
>>60902981
Come on, anon.
It's only been like, what, 2 weeks now?
>>
>>60903528
The problem is that most rss fetcher can't handle magnet link.
Also, rss is useful if you follow multiple show.
>>
>>60895191
Couldn't you have an option for both? If you request an RSS feed it gives torrent link by default, but if there's ?magnet in the URL then you give magnet links
>>
>>60902981
It's a weird ES issue.
>>60903528
>>60903913
That could work.
Wouldn't be difficult at all.

then start working on it right now you homo
>>
>>60903941
How is the AniDB integration going? Do you have their consent?
>>

I'm currently working on making tornzab compatibility. So I'll do it after most likely.
>>60904309
Still in early stages and nope need to talk to them about it.
If worst comes to worse we could just use the kitsu api or something.
>>
>>60904324
Okay. What about "search by file size"? You would need to add that anyway, and it seems easy in theory to add.
>>
>>60904362
It's in the code just need a front end for it.
So it's mostly done.
>>
>>60904377
Can't you just add it as a search parameter to add onto the search url? Are all the torrents indexed by file size?

Agreed that "Akina is cute" is kind of a retarded choice. It would be fine to just pick a short clip with her making a moaning noise, but if you can't figure out "you came already" or something else catchphrasey, please don't just pick sound clips at random without understanding what they mean.

Will you sign every update of the cert?

We have public mod logs now as well.
>>60904408
Yeah that's what we've done I believe but that'd be a bit of a pain for users.
Kipukun is going to add something to make it easier for users.
>>60906153
Maybe. We'll have to look into making our certs transparent as well maybe via certificate auditing or something?

In europe they just decided that Pirate Bay is copyright infringement.
While it's a "well, duh!" situation, it still bends existing laws.
This migth have dire consequences for many torrent sites or even streaming sites, especially since there's no general net neutrality in The EU and the content mafia is probably stronger there than in the US, and blocking sites isn't banned.
We might always laugh and say "well, we're the Hydra", but I'm afraid this was never more than a delusion, they are winning, and they are winning for decades now. When did they ever have a major defeat?
>>
>>60900952
What, is this site not supposed to work on older browsers?
>>
>>60907468
Hell, I know a few people who use older browsers for one reason or another.
I think they shouldn't be screwed over by nyaa of all places for no reason
well, if they use it
fix your shitty site
i can ping the site but every time i try to fucking load the webpage nothing happens and it just stays on the newtab page. I've had to use nyaa.si because of this shitty issue

Also please tell kipukun about this

>>60902854
I'll take a look, it might be a problem with some of the reverse proxy's.
>>60903108
Explain what?
>>60907454
Its not a "well. duh!" situation, thepiratebay does not store any copyrighted content, its more of a "where the actual fuck is this censorship coming from? china or north korea?" kind of situation, thepiratebay only offers magnet links and descriptions of those magnet links, you can pretty much consider it a phone book, just because there are numbers that point to drug dealers doesn't mean the phonebook company is illegal itself, if they wanted to fix the problem they would go to the drug dealer and end him, not go after the "phone book" and get his number removed, he would still keep on doing his business.
>>
>>60907454
>When did they ever have a major defeat?
Today, when after decades of fight, I still ain't paying for shit.

Shit nigga I can even legally rip music from Youtube now.

This one reads "It feels good right?"
The one you picked, "Akina is cute.", makes no sense, as she's talking to/making a comment about Akina.
>>
>>60908059
>thepiratebay only offers magnet links and descriptions of those magnet links, you can pretty much consider it a phone book, just because there are numbers that point to drug dealers doesn't mean the phonebook company is illegal itself
I think what that guy means is the new EU law now makes it so magnets and torrents or the phonebook is now illegal too if they're linked to copyright material.
>>
>>60909778
Exactly thats why i said that, its quite retarded to lo make a phonebook illegal for containing drug dealers phone numbers. (although piracy and drug dealers shouldn't really even be compared)
>>
>>60909778
Oh and, the law is not final yet, there is still a lot to come.
>>
>>60909850
>>60909860
It is retarded, but that's what they seem to be trying to pass, and if it comes to pass, saying it's retarded isn't going to hold up anymore.
>>
>>60909885
- How does the defendant plead?
- Non-guilty lmao oniichan.
- Case dismissed!

Tracker will be temporarily offline because leaseweb decided that they should null-route my server for some reason. this is the reason i want my DC up and running as soon as possible.
>>
>>60910027
O-okay.
>>
>>60909860
Eh, that's not how case law works.
Basically, whenever anti-piracy organisations in a EU country want a website blocked, they can refer to the ECJ ruling and the judge will give a ruling in accordance with the ECJ ruling and one of the aspects of that ruling is: torrents and magnet links can be seen as copyright infringement.
