Wizards assemble !

Advanced users of GNU/Linux (and I mean advanced), remember to try Source Mage GNU/Linux. True source-based distribution, and (in contrast with Gentoo and Arch) is:
Free from obfuscated and pre-configured code.
Fully committed to GPL, uses only free software (as in freedom) in their main package.
With even the documentation licensed as FDL.
Without 3rd party patches, sensible defaults or masked packages.
Doesn't need obfuscated python libraries, only bash.
Uses clean dependencies as they came from upstream developers, which by the same provides instant updates.
Can heal broken installs.
Can also use flags.

Do you like Arch Linux's AUR? Do you like Gentoo's portgage (or ports-like) package manager? With SMGL's "sorcery" you get all that. Making new spells (packages) not found in the grimoire (repository) is easy http://sourcemage.org/Spell/Book

Bash hackers welcome! Come and join http://sourcemage.org/

who the hell knows?
one thing for sure, it uses debian as base and the only work they do is on a handful of packages that in debian depend on systemd, the rest is untouched. So despite their small team they have a chance to pull it off.
If youre between void and devuan and "sudden dissapearance" is your concern I'd bet on void being the first one off the dick.

Besides, one distro disspears, other one takes it place. Crunchbag became BunsenLabs.

>>
>>60829195
It got from nowhere to stable and is a base of multiple new distros. I think you can trust it. And since it's basically debian, if it somehow dies you can just switch back to debian.

Also copy-pasting text from other applications into the text boxes still works too.

The main problem with this retard is that he can't figure out what some stuff on linux are supposed to do, think he knows better than everyone else so in the end you end up with an init system managing everything including sudo, network, login and everything that shouldn't be on an init process. This fucking init system use QR code.

> i think the actual problem is systemds wide acceptance as standard
Having standards is a good thing. Wayland for example does the job it is asked to, and people want it to be a thing. Most distributions will adopt it and will accept it.
>>
>>60828834
I got to say that after reading a little bit about it, I find it sad it doesn't bring much attraction by the mass and that the development is this slow.
The package manager seems really interesting. I should take the time to install and try it on a spare computer I got.
>>
>>60831438
I don't want to be forced to use wayland and don't want that programs depend on it, which again forces me to use wayland. I want a flexible system.

systemd can have as many flaws it wants and poettering can be stupid or a dick, nobody cares as long as WE have the choice to use systemd or not
the fact that all major distros adopted it, pretty much removes that choice, and worse; programmers start accepting systemd as standard too and programs with systemd dependencies appear, the nails for the systemd/gnu/linux coffin

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/LInux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

so today while i was off at work my parents texted me saying they had a bunch of problems with the internet. so i tried to access my rutorrent online but couldn't connect and then i tried to ssh in and also could not connect. im dont really know if rtorrent was causing the problems and ive left it alone plenty of times before without any trouble, but im still a little worried that it may be a bit to aggressive so i want to do something about it. also it seems like a pretty good idea anyways

right now I allow connection through a tor hs only for both the ssh server and rutorrent because of the nat-punching abilities and because i already have tor connected 99% of the time anyway, so i figure some kind of shut-off could be based on that

tl;dr: how hard would it be to write a script that tells rtorrent to pause all traffic if tor doesn't say that it is connected, and then start seeding and stuff again once the connection is fine? i have no real programming experience

NO IM NOT TORRENTING OVER TOR AND THIS IS NOT A QUESTION ABOUT TORRENTING OVER TOR ONLY SSH TRAFFIC AND THE WEB UI IS GOING OVER TOR

-no ntfs
-no crappy windows permissions
-no fragmentation for data you copy back after format, much-much less fragmentation for files you create later
-ability to disable journaling, much effective space-wise than modern, non journaled windows FS (exFAT)
-faster filesystem access with less overhead (no need to use FUSE+ntfs3g)
-the ext4 driver in constantly getting better, so expect performance improvements for newer kernels

>>
>>60837473
No fragmentation.
A gentle, quiet, but thorough feeling of warmth and inner peace.
Better performance, probably.
Reduced source of potential problems or incompatibilities.
>>
>>60837473
ntfs is not a unix filesystem and it doesn't support unix filesystem permissions.
ntfs uses a ntfs-3g driver which is passed through FUSE subsystem to work because it's not native.
ext4 defragmentates as it goes and as long as it has free space available it will not split data into chunks but try to allocate it from start to end continuously.

ntfs sucks, ext4 does not, simple as that.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

the open source ones.
Reliability issues are not worth the additional 5-10% performance you get from closed ones.

I have done update and upgrade before trying. It's not fully installed or removed because i had to abort the precedent installation because it got stuck like always, anyway how should i sort that out?

So that partly-installed package is just openjdk-7-jdk itself? I see. My gut impulse is to remove the package and install it again, but I'm quite sure apt will try to fix that limbo package before doing any other operation, so that won't accomplish anything.

I recently had a situation where a partially-installed package couldn't be installed, and it prevented other operations, like removing said package, from running. Lacking sufficient dpkg-fu, I had to manually edit files to change the package's status.

I had to do this, though, because I stupidly tried to install a 4 GB package with only about 400 MB of free space. That is the reason why my package couldn't be installed, and I definitely recommend that you investigate the reason why yours can't and then fix that,rather than circumventing normal package manager operation.

For starters, have you tried using aptitude with one or more verbose flags, instead of apt? Or checking log files like /var/log/dpkg.log?

How can I transform

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Path of Exile
Exec=env WINEPREFIX="/home/hitch/WINE_GAMES/PoE" /usr/bin/wine C:\\\\Path\\ of\\ Exile\\\\PathOfExile.exe
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
Path=/home/hitch/WINE_GAMES/PoE/dosdevices/c:/Path of Exile/
Icon=7F60_ClientIcon.0

into a .sh file?

Is it equivalent to
#!/bin/sh
cd ~/WINE_GAMES/PoE/drive_c/Path\ of\ Exile
WINEPREFIX=~/WINE_GAMES/PoE wine PathOfExile_x64.exe --noasync &
? asking just because it seems to create a "My Documents" folder on my home folder instead of using the one "inside wine"

>"Download this AppImage go-- guys, you just make it executable and it just works!"
>download the said appimage, make it executable, try to run it
>it doesn't work

So much for this "works everywhere without having to manually install dependencies" shit.

Besides that you're not even calling the same executable, looks reasonable. Wine putting shit like My Documents into your home dir is sadly normal unless you configure it differently in your bottle with winecfg

I feel you. Tried to use the AppImage for Gimp 2.9.5 because it's supposedly a groundbreaking release.
Borked and crashed.

Sad because some of the tools they introduced look fucking mint.

I tried the subsurface one so far. Had to emerge two packages to make it work. One was an older version of the library (1.x while gentoo already had 2.x) other was a selinux library (I don't use selinux in a desktop profile).

I going to try gimp and spotify web player, later already asks for some gconf shite. I guess these memeimages were designed for binary distros not /g/entoo.

Use wine start instead of cd'ing into a dir
https://wiki.winehq.org/Wine_User%27s_Guide#Using_wine_start
Unlink the documents folder in your winecfg

I am installing Fedora 25 from a usb stick, when I go to allocate partitions their space, it suggests at least 200mb for /boot but it seems Anaconda won't let me give /boot anything more than 1024kib. what gives?
