If you want pleb-tier, buy any highly-rated consumer router + switch.
If you want decent-tier, buy a router that supports dd-wrt or a similar firmware. Switch will be the same as pleb-tier.
If you want pro-tier, build a pfsense box and buy a used enterprise-grade switch off ebay.

If you want god-tier, wire your house for fiber and build an infiniband network.
