Is dual monitor worth it or just a meymey?
>>
>>60776521
much depend of your compute usage if you feel you need another one
>>
>>60776521
I just use a widescreen monitor and find it fine. Its not as big as 2 monitors but just big enough for me!
>>
Its only useful when you need to monitor a bunch of shit at once (usually 6 monitor setups). Outside of that its counter productive, even for applications that can use it like DACs it doesnt help at all. Office studies show it makes you procastinate more. If you really need the space you can consider virtual desktops. If asnything size matters more but not much.

>>60776521
I think it is but dual is honestly the limit. I usually have GIS or Vidja fullscreened in one and the other one is for browsing, posting, rhymin and stealin.
>>
I pretty much keep browser/work/fullscreen games on one monitor, and the side vertical monitor has stuff such as discord, steam friend list, music player and HWMonitor on. I'd say it's convenient for socializing at least.
>>
>>60776521
>dual monitor
No

>tv + monitor
Yes

This is how I watch my chinese cartoons.
>>
>>60776786
i can second this, but i have to add dont mount the tv above your head /monitor. It looks shit and it terrible for functionality and having people over. put it on a different wall too perhaps
>>
>>60776799
I've the tv mounted on the wall beyond the desk at 12, almost 180cm away from me, 120cm from the floor.
The monitor is on my right on the desk at 2, I turn it off when watching something.
>>
>>60776521
I personally find them unvaluable
I am a mechanical engineer and I spend most of my time building 3d models of previously 2d designed parts, and having the drawing on one monitor and the model on the other is at least two time amore productive than having virtual desktops
I personally dislike ultra wide monitors too
So I guess it depends on your use case and preferences
>>
>>60776521
not a meme

You didn't know you needed one till you had it
>>
>>60776521
two of the same monitors side by side in landscape: not a meme
two different aspect ratio monitors: meme
one vertical one horizontal: meme
ultrawide: meme
4k: still a meme
dual ultrawide: not funny that's how my uncle died
>>
>>60776839
thats a fine set up, its when you get shit like this (all i had to do was go to the top battlestation of reddit for an example)
>>
Used to have about dual monitors but doesnt use a lot
If you feel busy with one is okay have it but i am only browsing internet so is a waste of electricity
Dont fell for the anime on one screen and tasks on another maymay
>>
It is extremely useful when you want to read a manual, cheat sheet, excel file, etc. While working the actual application itself on another monitor.

Also, 2 pornos at once.
>>
>>60776951
>It is extremely useful when you want to read a manual, cheat sheet, excel file, etc. While working the actual application itself on another monitor.
alt tab or a larger screen
>>
>>60776917
Looks like shit. Good luck cleaning that.. kek.
Frigging plebbit.
>>
>>60777443
notice too the odd music setup especially the placement of the sound foam
>>
>>60776521
>"meymey"
kill yourself
>>
>>60776521
If you use a computer for work, you'll love it and never go back. Also, consider 3 screens if you're a gamer.
>>
>>60776521
I prefer having two monitors, one in landscape and another in portrait mode similar to your pic.
That way you can look at more text at once if say browsing 4chan or reading datasheets while the landscape mode is for general use.
Ever since getting a 4K panel however I have been using the portrait mode on my 1080 panel less and less, the 4K panel in landscape mode can fit just as much text as my portrait 1080 panel.
These days I mostly use the portrait panel when using a VM on my lanscape monitor with GPU passthrough so I can control and maintain sight of both OSes at once.
>>
>>60776521
It's nice to always have 4chan on one screen and work/play/whatever on the other.
>>
I use dual monitors both at home and at work and would struggle to go back to a single monitor.

At work I'm a mechanical engineer. One monitor is often a 3D model or drawing I'm working on, while the other has email, file explorers, ect on it.

At home I often have a tv show or movie on one monitor and a browser on the other. I also do astrophotography and will regularly use both when processing images as I use 3-4 program regularly (one to convert video to individual frames, another to align/stack, and one to do wavelet processing, plus file explorers).

I've had 3 before and the 3rd was mostly unused, but having 2 is a huge benefit I think. Though I have friends with 2 who rarely use both si it really depends on the person.
>>
I have a horrible memory. Like I have issues remembering single digit numbers sometimes because I am a brainlet. Having two monitors makes it easy for me to reference stuff without having to alt-tab every 5 seconds.

I think it really is up to personal preference. I've gone from dual monitor, to single monitor, to three monitors, and then back to dual over the past 5 years. I will admit I can get most shit done with just one, but I have the extra monitor and it's not hurting my wallet so I like having the extra one to help out my crappy brain.
>>
>>60776521
I like my setup. Have an old 27in 1080 screen and a 21:9 29in 1080 so I can read my mongolian boards and work in comfort.
>>
>>60777002
It's almost like I want to read from one and type into another at the same time!
>>
>>60776521
I don't like it. With 2 screens you'll have your head turned either to one side or the other...
Better get one of those ultra-wide screens, if you really need the space.
I'm using a normal 27" screen and the Dell software let's me position multiple applications in a defined pattern at once if I really need it, and that happens like once in 2 months.
>>
>>60776521
depends on your usage, but of the most part yes. however dont fall for the "i need 3 144niggahurtz gaymen screens" meme.
get a decent main screen, the secondary screen(s) can be cheap af shit you got form >>>/g/cgs/

16:9 is shit, so I use two in pivot. Web browser on one, two columns of terminals on the other, and a laptop screen somewhere out of my field of view, to which the two monitors are connected through a docking station.
Multi screen wallpapers are a meme. You almost never see them, if you really use your screens.
If your workplace gives you two displays, why not. Otherwise I don't see the point. I am most comfortable working on a 12~14" laptop with a dozen (or more) virtual desktops, with easy keybinds to switch to them (I use 11 with Win-`,1..9,0). Makes the work much better, as you are focused on only one thing at the time. A little less efficient if you need to constantly switch between two workspaces.

Another thing, moving mouse between very wide screen setup is pain in the ass, even more if the setup is not rectangular (like in your pic). The best setup is the one where all the screen space is in your field of view and you don't have to rotate your head from one side of the desk to the other. So either get a huge 16:10 (or more squarish) screen with high resolution, or few smaller and arrange them in the most squarish setup you can.
I also advise avoiding 16:9 FullHD, as 1080px screen width (in pivot) is not too much – some pages even fail to display correctly in such setup.
>>
I use on 27" horizontal and a 24" vertical. Productivity wise it's not a huge boost since I'm usually working on whatever's on the main monitor, but it's nice not having to Alt tab to get to useful documentation or references.

Also I can have vidya and 4chan open at the same time
>>
if you need another one then you know you need it
>>
I prefer one proper 4k@32" screen to multiple shit ones and you should as well.
>>
As others have said, it depends on your needs. I have dual monitors at the office and single monitor at home. At the office it literally makes me more efficient and that isn't a meme. I take notes in excel and I need to see the document I am noting on another screen. If I had to minimize the document in order to type, my chances for inputting incorrect data increases since I'm relying on memory and not reading as I type.
>>
>>60776521
Depends what you're doing really.
It's nice having a text editor on one screen and a browser/console on another

Also gaming on one screen, and a browser on another.
>>
>>60781784
I can have about 100 24inch monitors for price of your single 32 4k
>>
>>60783490
$500 for one of the cheapest brand spanking new 4K 27" IPS monitors.
500/100=$5
Where on earth do you find 100 24" panels for $5 a pop?
>>
>>60783536
You can used, where do you find 4k monitor that is 32 inch for 500$? Not even used are that cheap.
You also changed 32 inch to 27 in your argument, what is next 23 or 19 inch?

I can buy 1000calculator screens 50cents each if sizes does not matter now.

for 500$ you can still buy 3 ultrawide monitors from LG . What is still better for most productivity and fun use cases.
>>
Really helps with programming (documentation + IDE at the same time) and when you use fullscreen applications all the time, like Remote Desktop

I have 2 monitors + 3rd on laptop at work, but since it's so small I just throw crap like mediaplayers or Skype there (or the occasional web conference)
>>
>>60783677
I use a LG27UD68 which I bought for around 495 USD equivalent (659 AUD).
>>
>>60776521
Depends what you are doing but dual monitors is pretty nice. Saves you hassle of switching between windows all the time.
>>
>>60783677
For 32" I would agree would be impossible to find one for 500 currently, that is if you want similar pixel density to a 24" 1080 panel. Which defeats the purpose for me, rather have a higher pixel density even if it meant you'd run across some issues with scaling on current operating systems.
>>
>Office studies show it makes you procastinate more.
well at least maybe i can explain why i get nothing done at home

How is your neck pain compared to horizontal?

you get used to it after a while, just don't stack them too high

I got 2 at home, one for gaming, one for my browser. Great as I never have to alt-tab out of the game. I got 3 at work. One for a browser, the other 2 for work related programs. Great because I can see everything all laid out. The increased work space is great and I could never go back.

>>60784596
You could always go for a setup like this.
>>
>>60776521
Totally fucking worth it, I use one for 4chan and the main monitor for watching or playing shit. You know how you can have multiple desktops/workspaces on certain environments? It's like that but you can have all of them onscreen at once
>>
I barely use my 2nd monitor, it's always in my periphery so I rarely use both.
That being said I just ordered a 3rd monitor online, this one with a portrait option.
So hopefully the portrait meme is good.

What is a good size for someone wanting to get dual monitors? Also, has anyone used those "borderless" gaming monitors? Are they worth the extra money?

What is this, 2005?

If you're not running 3-9 monitors these days, you're a normie.

What do? 5 monitors could be pretty rad but there are a few issues.
