I honestly can't recommend the thermaltake core 9, or others in that series more. The image shows the gaudy if I put LEDs everywhere version but it comes with no LEDs on it outside of the hard drive and power indicator. The only thing I don't like about it is the window but I can get over that. Outside of that it's the best case I've ever worked with.

You're literally never going to want to upgrade or change it, because the design is basically perfect. It's even the perfect size, maximising airflow and component capacity while minimising dimensions, so you'll never get tired of your bulky turd and decide to get something smaller, nor will you ever run out of slots and want something bigger. It's not flashy and does not rely on any design gimmicks. It's a premium case so it's pretty unlikely you'll need to replace it due to a malfunction any time soon.
In short, it's a case that you'll probably keep for decades. $250 is a fair price for that. It's on the higher end, but it's still not overpriced like some memes out there.

Of course, if you're doing a limited-budget build (e.g. under $1000 or something) you probably can't spare that much, nor would you purchase multiple of this case if you keep several builds around. It's really something you'd get for your main PC, and then keep forever.

I have this case. The plexiglass on that scratches so easily. The exposed perforation on top of the case lets a lot of dust fall in vertically. It's roomy and cable management is easy, but I regret buying it.

Also the plastic sliding HDD holders suck. They can break easily and they sometimes you have to tap on the case to stop the HDD vibrations from resonating through the entire case making a buzzing noise.

A 17'' laptop is more than big enough. Keep in mind you will be sitting much closer to the screen than when using a desktop, so at something like 24'' you'd need to actually move your head around to see the edges.

I mean it's a good case, it's definitely on the "huge" end so there's plenty of space to manoeuvre and my completely overkill liquid cooler radiator fits extremely comfortably, but I'm not using half the expansion slots, it takes up so much space, and it looks extremely tacky after the novelty wore off.

My sound card does have a floodlight-tier red led for some reason so that makes my build themed I guess. It was completely unintentional but at least it allows me to go full autism.

What is the cheapest case with bottom mounted PSU, at least two top fan grills, grill beneath PSU and one more at the bottom, USB and phone jack on the top part of front panel (not facing up), easy access to cooler's backplate and some space behind mobo for cable management?
Another fan grill (or two) on the side would be nice.

I don't have that case, but here's what I've got right now.

I used to have another CD drive, but I ripped it out for use in an ad-hoc RasPi setup at one point. The bottom two slots are in fact SATA hotswap bays.

I also use an all-in-one water cooler, and all my fans are set to a curve in my mobo's BIOS. But people do build custom water loops, you know. I also only have three drives, and then only because for some reason I thought a 1TB HDD would be enough and then got another one when space started running out - if you have a RAID setup, extra drive bays are also nice.

If you have at least one friend, who you can go to on a weekend and gaym some with, then this case is perfect, you can fit 4 infants in it and it has some weight to it, mine is around 30kg right now, so you get at least some lifting.
