Heyyo, can anyone tell me what "Windows binaries" really means?
I want to download and install a program and I found the "binaries", also descibed there as self-extracting archive, and when I run it some wizard runs and then I have a folder on my PC. But after the supposed program in not callable from the terminal. How to actually install the program?

Can someone tell me if it sounds like executing this binary wizard should be it, or if I should have to do something else.
It might be related to MSYS2 and all those tools.

Thank you very much.

>>
>>60721346
there is a source code - the code that programmer writes
and then that is turned in to a binary, a compiled version of the source code, in windows its usually .exe file
when you open it in editor its just nonsense cuz its compiled for execution, its in "binary" its in ones and zeros now...

Using a gigabyte AX370 gaming 5
Not a big deal, as the SOC is what consumes the most by far at idle, but it would be nice to have

might be lack of power, but you cant just replace PCB on the HDD with soume roughly the same
you need same model and series and even then it might not work

double check the power going in from the psu, and listen to spin up, if nothing... move on... or do some serious googling

>>60721432
by being in linux ;)
for some reason it works fine here

when booting to windows I am full clocks all the time
though, I have power consumption meter on my desk
and its 68W - 70W idle no matter what, even when full clock in windows
which is rather strange, of course it shoots up on load
but one would expect higher power by at least 15W just because every single core is clock to max...

heres pic from arch, with stress test on one core
its 1700, clocked to 3.5ghz...
>>
>>60721479
Very same way you use it with DE?
or you have trouble even launching it?
get some launcher like rofi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FYEch1iljE

otherwise you have a workspace where you keep your browser and switch to the workplace when needed, at least thats my way in i3
>>
>>60721522
The cores barely consume any power at idle
Its the uncore/SOC which uses the most (about 20W)
>>
>>60721573
the thing is that I had power consumption meter for some time
and for example keeping memory of AMD cards on full clock while in multiple monitor setup consumes a lot of extra power
one would expect something similar with the cpu cores
but maybe there are some changes, and the power delivery is differently tied to actionable load rather than current frequency

which I guess they cant do with memory clocks.
but I am quite sure that in the past if you would take older cpus and set the clocks to be staticly at max, the power consumption would be easily observed as higher than in mode where it downclocks down on idle
>>
Well I asked it in the other thread, so I'll ask it here.
I flashed my Moto X back to Android 6.0, but it can't connect to wifi. I can't even turn on wifi mode. I tried flashing to 5.1 and it's doing the same thing.
>>
>>60721605
It does make a difference in power consumption of the cores
Its just not very noticeable when they already consume only 5-7W at idle, while the SOC takes up 20W
>>
>spare router set up as a wifi bridge
>works fine for weeks
>power goes out in the neighborhood
>comes back on
>unable to connect to spare's SSID
>main router's SSID still connects fine
Anyone know what could be causing this? I tried restarting both routers.
>>
>>60721663
Also I suspect it might be something about the way the spare is set up. I'm pretty sure I manually entered the main IP by looking at whatever it was at the time when I was setting it up, and it probably changed after the forced reset when the power went out, since it's dynamic. I still don't know what exactly I should be looking for, or how to set up the bridge to automatically adjust to the dynamic IP, if that's the problem in the first place.

ok my temps were super high. it might be because the new thermal paste hasn't burned in yet, but i think it was mostly because my mobo set the voltage to somewhere over 1.26 volts which is way too much. i'm currently down to 1.965 volts stable and temps are much closer to what i was seeing with my i5 under load

Either I am stupid and did something or Windows 10 is fucky.
I have a desktop with windows 10. I have tied my user account on it with my windows live email address.
This issue is regarding my laptop. It is also running windows 10 but has NOT been tied to my email.
Issue: I shut down my computer, as the sole administrator user account. The account that came with the laptop, just renamed. When I have booted up my computer and prompted to sign in, somehow it has synced with my desktop. Rather than the pin password, it is now my email password. This account now has NO admin permissions; I went to delete some files and it says "you need permission to perform this action".

I tried signing out to see if I could select the admin account, but it is not there. There is only this useless one.

How do I fix this? I have tried giving this account folder specific permissions so I could delete some junk files but it still won't work.

You could use Portal and Pushbullet.
You can upload the images to somewhere online like Imgur and access on phone.

I have not used itunes in over a year so I am basing this off memory...
Plug in phone, open itunes, select your phone, on the left side where you selected there should be an arrow for a drop-down showing categories. One should be pictures or photos.
If that doesn't work, you can download a file explorer app, then go into the apps category of your device on itunes, select the app, and drag+drop files (or an upload button?)

When you get the extension, you will want the ethernet cable running from a LAN port on the primary to a LAN on the secondary. Set one to wireless channel 1 and the other to 11. If the primary router's local IP is 192.168.0.1, then make its DHCP range 192.168.0.3 - 192.168.0.120, and set the second router to 192.168.0.2

Also make sure the second router is in client/access point mode, or manually check that DHCP and NAT are disabled. You can repeat the process easily for more routers BTW, just make sure their IPs are out of the DHCP range as well.

xampp is just a pre configured package that runs apache, mariadb, php and perl.
mariadb is a mysql fork with some extra features, you don't need another mysql server.

up to a certain point.
mariadb features cannot be used on mysql.

if you're just getting started with SQL there's no difference until you start using advanced features or start digging deep into it's configuration for performance optimization.

pure gamers want 120+ hz monitors
rest want IPS panel

thats as for panel, then theres adjustable stand

if you got budget and not a heavy gamer then focus on Dell Ultrasharp

Am I correct in assuming that:

raid 10 is a popular one
its raid 1 and raid 0 hence raid 10

big benefit is also no long rebuilds as theres no parity computation for every bit of data...

depends how it is in your country, here in europe we have this governmant agency that you have to deal with, on your own if you want... they will give ID and you then buy domains you want and pay the agency

or you pay some webhosting provider to do that for you, and to even register it on your own ID, so you are the official owner and not the company... you pay bit extra but you are not bothered much

who the fuck cares when it costs like 10€ annually

Got my Ryzen 1700 finally and have been quite frustrating with it lately. Was hoping to get at least 3700mhz stable with the stock cooler but It won't get stable at 1.275.

Actually I can't get to make the actual voltage under load get around 1.275, If I try to put 1.3 volts, actual voltage under load actually stays at 1.31volts which is too high, temperatures ramp up above 77c under full load with x264 which is too high for my comfort.

For some idiotic reason I can't baffle, my Gigabyte B350 gaming 3 which appeared to be a good board, better than Asus Prime, doesn't have a freaking Load Line calibration settings. It only has a offset Voltage for SOC and Vcore. Even so, I still have the feeling temperatures shouldn't be that high from what I read around the internet. But I get the feeling most people claiming to be stable and having good temps are not really doing proper stability tests either.

When I mess with voltage settings on BIOS, as I boot up, for some time, VDID voltage readin on HWINFO stays stuck a 1.550 (not vcore) which is scary as fuck. Amd Ryzen Master reads normal but HWINFO vdid info seems not completely off under load.

I already updated bios to F6. Didn't help. Not to mention my C15 3000mhz corsair vengeance won't run even at 2400mhz with cas 15.

How fucked am I?

I was going to postpone the purchase of a proper tower cooler (I don't like AOI) for budget but I guess if I hope to run any higher frequencies than stock it will be unavoidable. At this point I get the feeling I was extremely unlucky with Silicon lottery and I'd hardly get any higher than 3.8ghz at safe voltages at all.

Anyway, would this be enough for 3.8ghz:

Only RAID 0 increases write performance.

I like Raid 5. People say it is the less safe and bad for writting but is the one with the less loss in drive storage while still presenting some redudancy and a good boost in performance. I know is the less safe but Raid is not supposed to be a backup. I do make backups of the things in my RAID array. I actually had one Drive with SMART warning poping up and safely switched it.
The best thing is that I get 390mb/s or read speed with 4 seagate barracuda 2tb drives. I don't perceive (much) loss in write. I already switched ALL Drives on the array, one by one during the last 5 years. Started with 4 1.5tb drives, Now I'm with four 2tb drives.

By default memory is 2133 with default bios settings.
XMP gives 15,15,15,36 for 3000mhz and even lower latency for 2666 and 2400. When I try to get 15,15,15,36 The system won't post. I actually had to manually clear the CMOS.
15,16,16,38 actually work with 2666, but not with 3000mhz. But those are terrible timmings. I suppose nothing can be done regarding that apart from waiting for a new bios (yes I configured voltage to 1.35)

Like I said, I crash with 1.275 (actually 1.24) and 3.7ghz with x264 encoding with 100% cpu USAGE after about 1~7 minutes. No crashes playing 30 minutes of Doom, tough.

I tried everything with both bios fidling and AMD master software for adjusting the voltage of the CPU. Bios only give offset options. I tried +0.2 but voltage went all the way to 1.38, not acceptable, With +0.1 I got 1.31 but sitll too high for 2.7, temperatures would ramp up too fast. I also got that issue of VDID voltages readig as 1.550v for half a minute as the computer boots up.

With AMD master I set 1.275 in real time and it worked, but with VDROOP actual voltage was 1.24ish~ and soon crashed. Configuring for 1.3 and I don't get almost no vdroop and voltages stays around 1.31 which makes temperature ramp up all the way to 77+ whicch is also unnacptable, So I have a void around 1.24~1.3 volts which should be the sweetspot but due to lack of LLC I can't configure it precisely to feed the cpu.

How terrible are things looking up?

It's me again. Let me explain my problem again. I have a big compilation of questions and answers that I want to index and, based on the user's question, show the answer for that question, or at least the most similar. I thought this as a machine learning problem, but some other anon told me I should go the "text classifcation" way.
I'm looking for some insights, this a big scale school project. Anyone has an idea as to how i should take this project?
I'm trying to use FuzzWuzzy, that uses Levenshtein Distance to find matches, but since most of the answers are at least one paragraph long, it's not very accurate. I also know I should not base everything in only one library, but I need to at least know how I should go about it.
Any cool modules or libraries I should check out? I'd prefer using Python.
My data is in PDF format, I parse it with PDF miner, then use regex and split to get the answers. For example, if an user writes "What is the meaning of existance", it should give the answer "If there is a purpose to existence then everything must exist for that purpose.
This means that all things that exist are the necessary structures that allow the meaning of existence" or some shit like that.
The problem with text classification is that it would search for word similarity and stuff, but what I'm looking is for something that matches the intent or general idea of the answer.
>>

I'm looking to turn my SBC into a central audio streaming hub, allowing me to both stream to it for it to play on its speakers as to stream from it to other devices, potentially being a middle man.

So far I have mpd running for local music, and I can stream using pulseaudio to it from Linux devices, but video playing halts on that local device, although the sound streams fine.

I can stream the local music using mpd, but it generates minute-long delays. Fixes have been attempted but failed.
I need to be able to stream all the system sounds from the desktop/laptop/phones, not just single files.

If there's anyone who knows a solution/software to add/improve even a single connection, that'd be wonderful.
I've been messing with this for quite a while, to no avail.
I can't be the first one trying to achieve this

In Windows power plans, is the 'Turn off hard disk after X min' harmful for your HDD? I've read conflicting information favoring both sides, but they're seem mostly from non-powerusers in support forums.

shitty ISP router doesn't have QoS, unfortunately is needed for TV to function

if its not the gateway TV doesn't work and I'm not sure its really worth it to disable it's wifi and use an AP for the main network
>>
>>60728151
okay here's it in a nutshell
does your disk get accessed a lot? If so keep the disk from shutting off.
Do you only use it occasionally, if it spins down will you just be accessing it again in the next few seconds?

Disk spin ups can hurt the drive more than it being kept spinning but only if you're doing it frequently enough. If you're letting the drive spin down and stay spundown then it'll help
>>
>>60728151
I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter. It might wear out the motor a bit faster, like in 10 years instead of 15.

Everytime I try to burn an iso to a dvd-r on my mac, i get the error "The disc can't be burned; it might be incompatible with this disc drive. Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a lower speed", both of which I have tried to no avail. Anyone know what's up?
>>
>>60728151
I have also tried to get information about this but it is difficult.

Turning on and off is very stressful for a drive, both because of the mechanical process involved but mostly because of the metal expansions of the temperature variance.

However, for obvious reasons, keeping the disc spinning for several hours without never actually accessing it, is quite wasteful too. There is just as long as a drive can live turning on indefintely.

The big point is where does the curve cross? How many Dozens of turn on/off cycles justify how many hours of the drive on but idle?

I struggle with those doubt for a long time and ended up, together with the annoyance of of the noise they produce I came with a solution for minimizing the need of acces for my large storage drives allowing them to rest.

Windows system: 240gb SSD
Download/Secondary Application drives: A 5400 notebook Drive
Large storage, mostly videos and installers and not so frequently accessed fotos: 4 2tb array.

I also configure two power plans: One where the discs only turn off after 1 hour and a half, and the other after 35 minutes. This way when I'm not playing and just web browsing and doing basic stuff, the main array turns off and keeps of for a couple of hours. But I use that mostly for letting my PC sleep at night while the download drive (5400 rpm) almost never turns off.

I also added a thermostat for the HD array to turn up the front FAN when they reach 40c,

if the router has two antennas you could replace one with a directional or sector antenna thats pointed at your stuff, and the other with low-gain omni-directional for everything else. should trip him up a bit. just need to get one that looks like a normal antenna though

or line the floor with tinfoil

Yes
>>
>>60728450
Yes I know the difference of price is small but the V2 barely fits my case, is quite heavy making transport more delicate, and I'd also need to import from US the AM4 backplate which would make it 50 bucks more expensive.

No I don't want an AIO.

I will limit myself through voltage, I don't want go higher than 1.375. No matter what frequency I get. Considering how I'm not even stable at 3.75 1.275 volts I suspect I will be lucky to get up to 3.9 ghz.

yes
>>
>>60728574
That'll probably be fine then. Don't expect results that much better than with the stock cooler, Ryzen isn't particularly thermal limited, it's more limited by voltage/stability.

I can't even get 3.7ghz with the stock cooler. I mean, not under 80c.

Could this have any negative effect on my copy of Windows or computer?

How to fix a scratch on an IPS monitor?
>>
>>60729783
Not really.
It's a "learn by doing" activity. Literally the more you do it the more of it will become muscle memory. It will get to a point where you don't think about the syntax or abilities of the language at all, you just focus on the logic and the writing itself becomes a means to an end.

Write some basic programs and mess around with stupid shit like hello world programs which have a spin on them (i.e. ones that take arguments, ones that perform a calculation on the characters etc) and it'll start to stick.
