Fuck I just had a flashback to how I discovered Miranda IM (I believe it was a Russian botnet version of messenger) where you could just load icq.dll, msn.dll etc and had plugins such as being able to see when someone reads your away message or seeing invisible people.

I noticed a girl stalking me (repeatedly reading my away message every day) which was the first time that I had enough confidence to talk to a girl

I still have a copy of Miranda handy with my AIM, MSN and Jabber accounts (it was the only way I ever used the former two). I wonder if the accounts are even alive still since I haven't used it in a couple of years. Miranda was shit, but it was still the best back then to put all of the messengers in one unified interface and avoid using their shitty proprietary clients.

best pic masturbation aid!

acdsee2 doesnt show transparency, and doesnt open png wasnt it? but i still used till a year ago when i discovered FastStone, it has the same one-hand browsing/zooming/paning functionality, and all other acsdee2 features, its a lil more configurable and supports more image formats

when browsing other kinds of images, XnView is better because it can correctly display CMYK images, and RBG jpeg with ICC colours, u know, from faggots who cant correctly export a fucking non-design jpeg on their aydobe products to be viewed semi-accurate across any hardware/software, icc is only useful if its going to be viewed on a computer with those cameras that calibrate your display

>>
>>60697285
iirc, trillian 0.7f is freeware and had msn, icq, aim, irc
pidgin was weird for some reason, but was fine for IRC
miranda-im was the king, but unless you auto authenticated after connect in irc, it would not reflect locally your nickname serverside, once changed, and some other weird behavior on irc that made it annoying trying to run commands, but just for irc chatting, it was fine.
it was nice having it all on a single ultra lightweight program, you could configure so much, disable sound and systray flash for everything except direct 1x1 messages on all msg protocols or you name quoted in some irc-channel
... or even have an auto reply, with a keyword watch.
its the best option for staying reachable while not interrupting with non-important stuff

theres even a whatsapp protocol (miranda-NG, not miranda-IM), standalone, doesnt need a smartphone to even install, scan QR code or anything, in fact, you're better off using a new mobile line for miranda only, you just need to plug the SIMcard on an old dumbphone to receive an SMS and input it in miranda, after that you're set.

communications are unencrypted, so you would screw everyone else on whatsapp groups, but its awesome

XnView 2 (not XnViewMP)
same style and lightweightness as Acdsee2, irfan, faststone

its just marginally less lightweight (20MB ram base load), because it supports crop, resample, some filters and plugins, but doesnt make a difference unless its an old 256MB RAM computer from 2001, but its just as snappy in browsing, actually more so, becuase you config it to keep Previous image loaded, so you dont see a delay if you backtrack when trying to browse several pics per second, something acdsee2 and irfan lack, iirc faststone can do this

But hey, I've been using it >for free for some 12 years straight at that point and when I saw it on sale I told myself I'd just buy it and then switch to a different, free client. Except I ended up never switching because old habits die hard and there was always something irritating me in the free ones.

For all the shit that mIRC (deservedly) got in the past, it is one piece of software that for over TWENTY FUCKING YEARS I've been using it now remained the same, didn't add idiotic bloat or change the interface in a retarded way. Except some cosmetics, it looks literally the same as on my fucking Windows 95 box back in 1997.

You gotta give it some credit for that. The only other piece of software that comes close to that is Total Commander.

Every other p2p software respects my freedom.
Thankfully there are free clients like Museek+ and Nicotine+.
>>
>>60706284
Im curious [genuinely, not trying to be a dick] what freedom of yours isnt respected and do the alternatives have the same variety of users?
>>
>>60706317
>what freedom of yours isnt respected
These https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.en.html

>and do the alternatives have the same variety of users?
These free clients that I listed use the same protocol so they can communicate with each other and even with the non-free soulseek. I guess that they have less users as probably only people running GNU/Linux will care about them.
If you mean alternatives in terms of protocols then things like bittorrent have even more users.
>>
So if i search for something on, say, museek+, i would get search results from people who are on soulseek too, right? That would be great.
>>
>>60706370

I have not tried museek but it works great with nicotine+.
