This thread is for the discussion of NyaaPantsu (nyaa.pantsu.cat), a free (FOSS) torrent indexer.
The aim of this project is to write a fully featured nyaa.se replacement in golang that anyone will be able to deploy locally or remotely.

FAQ
>https://pastebin.com/Gq9MrJN5

>Why is Pantsu down/error 502?
Most likely because the team is deploying changes. Wait for a bit and refresh the page. It should be mostly stable now.

Am I a pussy or is Pantsu antagonizing companies that send DMCA requests a bad thing?

I don't know. Ignoring them vs. willingly telling them to go fuck themselves in a public manner seems a good way to be a target for potential action.
>>
>>
>>60676119
I think it's for legacy purpose. It started as a general for everyone to contribute, but just a few programmers decided to open a project, and it all narrowed down to just Pantsu. Other projects ended up being not supported by the community, due to the sketchy behaviour of their crew and supporters.
>>
>>60676198
I guess the assumption is that they would act anyway.
Where/when did the "telling off" happen anyway, seem to have missed it.

Hm, really couldn't find that on the site through browsing, I wouldn't really call that "in a public manner".
But yeah, TPB did the same, but again, it's questionable if that contributed to the persecution/prosecution (though it certainly didn't have a positive effect on legal proceedings).

Since HS is promoting that other site, I'd assume (((they))) would go after them first, though.
>>
>>60676281
According to the database pantsu has 10284 more uploads than the cartel site.
>>
>>60676281

I meant the singaporean amputee doll community known as 4chan. It's understandable that uploaders would prefer a project tied closer to the old website. But we all experienced how bad their decisions were and how bad is the cartel. Over time, Pantsu has more potential in growth because all of the people behind it.

Kind of indirect ones. Half-assed, but better than nothing at all. And I should've added that BakaBT doesn't allow to freely upload random shit, every torrent undergoes quality assessment and must be approved by admins before it becomes visible to all.

>>60677092
Not an argument.
>>
Shitposting aside, what is the deal with HS?
I think I heard that HS was trying to kill NyaaPanstu scraper with fake entries and that's why they were paused for a while.
>>
>>60677146
The story goes:
HS warned the pantsudevs that their scrapper is bad, they didn't fix it, HS fed it with fake entries, pantsufags disabled it.
>>
>>60677127
>I was talking not about shit shows but about shit releases
That's even easier.
Popularity generally means quality, especially after time erase the advantage of speed.
>>
Was there actually anything wrong with it, or were they just buttblasted?
>>
>>60677065
They were banned for abusing the scraper, essentially flooding pantsu with garbage data, mocking us for not having better sanitation methods in the scraper.
>>
>>60677161
No!
HS did onpurpose because they hate pantsu and cartel is evil and want money>>60677171
>>
>>60677145
That's the simple proof that HS isn't banned.
>>
>>60677146
Pantsufags boasted HS can't do anything about pantsu scraping their site. They showed they can (after telling about that vulnerability beforehand and waiting for several days for a fix). Pantsufags screeched and banned them. The vuln is still not fixed.
>>
>>60677205

>>
>>60677127

>>
>>60677236
>>60677205
They haven't fixed it because they thought HS won't do stupid crap like feeding the scraper 1000+ entries of garbage data.
>>
>>60677193
HS is banned, retard. Their torrents still allowed to be uploaded though - a great improvement comparing to nyaa.se deleting any doki torrent even if uploaded by 3d party. It's definitely a thing to be proud of (at least delusional pantsufags doublethink so).

>>
>>60677270
>>60677322
Sour grapes.
>>
>>60677293
Retarded analogy, HS could still feed it garbage data even if the scraper has sanitizing feature.
>>
From reading the replies, it seems as though HS thought the scraper should be better validating what was scraped as the scraper was written to assume all the data captured was good, and so HS fed it wrong data just because they were bootybothered.

Purely guessed from the replies posted here though.
>>

The cartel is a mafia-like organization between fansubs to control where they put their shows (besides their own site). Daiz is the guy who normally speak for it.

The word came after they started to organize to stop supporting some sites altogether (Tokyo Toshokan) in favor of something else chosen by them. This backfired greatly with the nyaacalypse.

Now they are doing it again, spamming their tracker and boycotting their ""competitor"".

I don't think most subs make any money from ads, so I can only think of autism as a reason for their actions.

Here, I spoonfed you.

The problem happens when anons on /g/ project. We just assume that when a reasonable person starts up a website and assumes the mantle of developer, that he intends to actually, you know, develop the site into something functional that everyone will want to use and visit. We're projecting our expectations onto others because we aren't able to see the reality, that the actual dev for pantsu.cat is just some college kid whose idea of "developing" consists of copying some past site and then tweaking it to be in line with his particular tastes, which are, by the way, fucking awful and extremely immature.

Community here. After a full month of "development," I'm about ready to give up on using the site exclusively and relegate it instead to secondary site that I only occasionally visit when I can't find anything elsewhere.

The dev is really trying my patience lately. I really don't want to have to use nyaa.si as my main go-to site for anime torrents, but necessity compels me to find the site with the most functionality, the most unique uploads, the least quirkiness, and the most stability. And I'm sorry, but being able to add my own custom waifu to the website theme is not a function I am interested in. I don't think most other people care about it either. I explained in the last thread why it's useful to be able to see the comment number from the index, just as the latest example of my interaction with the dev, but all I got in reply was "lol, this isn't facebook." He doesn't understand the purpose of this pretty essential piece of information that is otherwise standard on other torrent trackers with commenting, which just tells me that he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.

Or maybe he plain doesn't see the point in having a comment counter. Seriously, other than that hilarious autism shitstorm on a torrent for Gabriel Dropout, have torrent comments ever been useful for anything? If you want him to implement such a feature, you should come up with better reasons for it other than "but every other site has it".

>Wouldn't have that sent garage to everyone?
Yes, that's correct. That's what happened. They came here and admitted they didn't filter by IP address when messing with their feed. However, most people do not auto-dl everything on the RSS feed. So they were unaffected. If there were torrent links associated with the fake RSS entries then anyone that does auto-dl everything would have had their bittorrent client attempt to download the garbage entries.

To be honest, anyone that isn't crazy would not trust them at this point. Their reason for spamming Pantsu was that they thought it would be funny. Their reason for taking down MangaTraders was that they thought it would be funny. I am concerned that one day they will exploit their users by distributing auto-downloaded malware because they think it will be funny. If there is ever a public exploit in MPC-HC or mpv then I would be very surprised if they do not take advantage of the situation.
>>
>>60679791
Not him, but people will usually say if the subs are shit, the video quality is bad, etc. And for VNs, they might direct you to English patches or fixes in general. A comment counter, however, isn't a necessity. Just the comments are.
>>
>>60679785

there are two branches in the repo, master and dev; dev is where all new commits go and when we reach a stable HEAD on dev, it gets pushed to master, and the server pulls master and uses it for the site

Like I said, the comment stats are just the latest example of being frustrated with the dev's priorities. If you were actually interested in using the website, instead of just concerning yourself with sucking the dev's dick in public, you, like me, would be able to list about a dozen other such examples where the dev basically demonstrated that he is totally incompetent.
>>
>>60679304
HS is currently banned, and if people agree will be replaced by a more competent release group soon that im trying to create, i still have lots of things to think about properly of course.
I have always been quite neutral in terms of release groups but honestly, if it was totally up to me i wouldn't have any of their releases on our site after their malicious act. I do understand that in a way it can hurt the users, thats why im deciding to replace them.

>>
>>60679852
Personally I don't really give a fuck if the dev is competent or not, as long as the site's basic functions work at least as well as Nyaa's ones did, I'm fine with it. The main reason why I'm sticking to pantsu is because I dislike the people who run nyaa.si and the kind of shit they've done and still do, if this scraper bullshit proves anything.
>>60679876
Not a necessity != a bad thing.
>>
>>60679857
See, this is why I say that you fags don't have your priorities straight. People hated nyaa.se's mod team because they banned Doki and other small groups that released a small proportion of current anime fansubs. Horriblesubs produces 95% of the subbed anime files. They may be managed by trolls, but if you are going to ban their releases, then all you're doing is a disservice to users of the website looking for fucking anime videos. You have become the very cartel that you hate. Fuck this shit. I'm going elsewhere. Maybe nyaa.rip will develop a decent site eventually.

No, I'm not. I know they can't be reasoned with. The same way you can't reason with anyone else that is actively malicious for fun. For them, not being malicious is less fun, so obviously they wont go that route, which means there is no reasoning.

As for them not liking being scraped, nobody cares. I'm sure Crunchyroll doesn't like HorribleSubs scraping them either. They're literally founded on not giving a shit what other people think. I'm not really sure what you're disputing here. An RSS feed is just XML. Here's what a torrent entry looks like in one

[Torrent Title]

Nothing complicated. HorribleSubs can put whatever they want for all of that. As long as the magnet link looks like a magnet link, your client will load it. But like I said, nobody auto-downloads everything on the feed and they deleted the entries afterward. So unless you were on the Everything feed while the entries were there and you auto-downloaded everything, you wouldn't notice. I still wouldn't like getting fed garbage data, and I sure as shit wouldn't trust them to not get you to auto-download something they think will be funny in the future.

It's not really a vulnerability though, even if you filter duplicates, nothing is stopping HSfrom just putting crap in their RSS, it's impossible to detect. But I guess you cartel shills don't want to hear that. Herkz gave you a document full of "arguments" against pantsu that you spam all over these threads now.

When you run a website for the benefit of your users, all decisions should be informed by the fundamental question: Is what I'm doing in my users' best interest?

In the case of banning Horriblesubs, the motivation appears to have been for PantsuDev to save face and make nyaa.pantsu.cat look like it's more professionally put together than it actually is.

>>60681106
So basically

Pantsu devs said "you can't do shit, we'll scrape it" and HS retaliated back?

That is exactly how it works, yes.
If you discover a vuln then you call the owner of the site or w/e and tell them. If they don't react the next step is to exploit it to make them take action.

Not really, the motivation behind banning their own HS scrapebot was "because it was flooding the shit out of the site".
>>
>>60681155

HorribleSubs isn't banned. The account that the scraper auto-uploaded to is banned. But HS didn't use that account. They could still make their own account.

Pure coincidence? No. From the very beginning PantsuDev was secret agent of cartel. His goal was to distract you, to create illusion of competition, to create false belief that there is opposition to cartel. And now he is actively sabotaging pantsu development to establish total control and domination of nyaa.si.
I bet he is the one who constantly leaks patsu IP in these threads. He is the one who made HS scrapper to spam pantsu to get HS releases banned.

We were destined to fail from the very beginning.
>>
Just scrape HS releases from tokyotosho and anidex then cross-checking them, what's even the problem?

Who cares if they banned HS RSS?
Do you really want to stubbornly trust HS when you can get it from elsewhere just as safe?

They can put whatever they want in their RSS feed. They could put a magnet link to CP in there, title it "One Piece 821 [720p].mkv" and it'd get auto-downloaded by thousands of people. Are you too dumb to understand the issue at hand or are you just trolling? I'm hoping for latter. It's not about malformed entries, it's about entries which appear to be legit but are not.
