Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to improve specs or build quality or to lower price, etc

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

Ryzen notes
>R5 1500X and 1600 (with an aftermarket cooler for OC) are the best value CPUs on the market at the moment, with the possible exception of the Pentium G4560
>Make sure that the RAM you buy is compatible with Ryzen and the mobo. Success reported with the RAM listing in the PCBG pcpartpicker Ryzen builds

Kaby Lake notes
>i5s are defunct with the release of Ryzen
>100 series chipsets (Z170, B150, ect) don't work out of the box with Kaby Lake
>Z series chipsets have an "Enhanced Turbo", which allows all cores to run at the highest single core boost clockspeed (works for Skylake CPUs as well)
>Pentium G4560 is the best price / perf four thread CPU on a modern platform
>All Kaby Lake CPUs work natively with 2400MHz DDR4 memory

General commentary
>Win7 and 8.1 cannot be easily installed on the latest AMD or Intel chipsets
>Do not underestimate the impact of fast (>2400, e.g, 3000MHz) RAM in conjunction with a Z270 or B350/X370 series chipset, which often provides as much of a performance boost as a CPU overclock
>The only worthwhile 1080p gfx cards are the GTX 1050, RX 570, 4GB RX 580, 6GB GTX 1060 (GTX 1070 is acceptable but severe overkill)
>G4560 iGPU is fine for LoL, DOTA2, Rocket League, etc

Not a great build. You didn't state purpose, but a 1050Ti is weak and your i7 7700K is unnecessary. Not sure what prices are like kangabux but for a 60Hz 2560x1080 monitor, you should get something like this

1440p monitors are expensive. You can save yourself some money to put toward the monitor by dropping to the R5 1600 or 1500X and the GTX 1070. You could also wait a few months for Vega, but I doubt you'll save yourself much more than $50 or so.

Grab an SSD (240-256GB is a good size).

Check this build. You can keep the case, PSU, etc that you already picked out. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/pcbg/saved/Fjyf7P

>>60638476
You could drop the liquid cooler and save a few bucks. You can drop down to the R5 1600 or 1500X without much detriment to framerates. At 1440p, you're mostly going to be GPU limited
>>
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/BqT43F

Rate me budget build. How can it be better for cheaper?
>>
>>60640868
You'll have major problems with that build.. for instance, the 7600K won't work in the H110 unless you have a Skylake CPU to install in the socket and flash the mobo BIOS first. Also unlocked / overclockable "K" CPUs are generally paired with a Z series chipset. H or B chipsets are paired with locked CPUs like the G4560 or i5 7500.

i5s aren't a smart purchase after the release of AMD's R5 series. If you really want the 1050Ti, you can fully utilize it with the cheap (Intel) Pentium G4560. If you want to step up a notch in CPU, the best buy is the R5 1500X, which is still cheaper than the 7600K.

You can exchange the 1050Ti for the gfx cards in any of the first three builds in this list.
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/pcbg/saved/

Also the monitor is a little small. I'd suggest 23"-25". If you're looking to save a little cash, you can always grab one used. 1080p monitors are all over the used market for cheap
>>
>>60631016
Don't forget the standoffs.

Hey /pcbg/. I'm building a new rig, and was hoping to sell my old one was a "Full Mid-Range Gaming PC".
I was hoping that I could atleast get around 700 to lower the costs of my new build.

My Motherboard isn't actually that hot, Speccy is being a dick.
>>
>>60642051
Personally, I wouldn't bother selling the rig. Just grab an SSD and an new gfx card and you're set.

Honestly, you could keep your current build for a little longer. Just turn down settings slightly. You won't be able to tell a difference, and you'll get a huge framerate boost.

Well, there's no reason to get an older CPU. I guess you want to because of w7 but it's not worth buying a brand new component that's outdated. Just get the 7700k and swallow the MS's cock, also, Noctua heatsinks come with very good paste already.

Disk drives are seriously antiquated technology.

I'd suggest the 7700k and a Z270-A from Asus, but it's your money, anon.

Is 1500x THAT much better than a 1400? Later one is around 35€ cheaper in my country and I'm not sure it's worth that extra. Though I still hope that the 1500x's price will drop sooner or later.
>>
>>60643293

That's nothing. G4560 CPU, no gfx card, 240GB SSD. You can build it in a small case easily, like miniITX.

>>60643319

I made a post yesterday about my fans not slowing down after playing something intensive, even when I return to idle temps:

>I made my first build yesterday and I've got almost everything working. The main issue I have right now are my fan/s; when I open a game the fan/s will increase their power, however after closing the game the fan/s will remain on full blast until I turn the PC off. I'm saying "fan/s" because I'm not exactly sure which fans are going on full blast. I have 2 Corsair stock fans that came with my Carbide 400C, with an additional Noctua fan on the roof, my Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1070 card fans and my Noctua NH-U14S CPU cooler. I don't think it's the CPU cooler making all that noise since Noctua fans are supposed to be quiet. It's probably the graphics card fans.
From what I understand I need to create a custom fan curve? What software would you guys recommend?

I tried Afterburner but all it did was actually increase the RPM on the fans on idle. I configured the fans in my BIOS with the optimize feature, however that didn't help either. My fans did change their RPM on idle but they don't slow down after an intensive application. Should I try Speed Fan?

Mining operations, dumb buyers. But quad 300W gfx cards can easily hit near the limit.

Unfortunately I can't answer that. I would doubt that 110W draw will stay in passive mode

>>60644607

>>60644776
Grand strategy can sometimes require more CPU power. You might want a 1500X + 1050Ti depending upon your budget. The extra CPU power will make your illustrating snappier as well
>>
>>60645320
>I would doubt that 110W draw will stay in passive mode
Not at all, or not just for so long? It stands that it should stay on zero RPM in low-medium load. Wouldn't 110W on a 750W PSU be considered low load?

>The only difficulties i've read about so far are the USB drivers not being recognized during installation itself (but working fine afterwards)

It's not even that. Those problems have nothing to do with Ryzen - Microsoft stripped all the drivers out of their win7 install images just to fuck with anyone trying to install it instead of win10.
>>
>>60645877
>>60645877
Source? How are they supposed to retroactively strip drivers out of a locally stored image
>>
>>60645947
They're not stripping anything out of local images they stripped them from the images they offer on their download page.

If you install win7 using the images on microsoft's website you won't get your NIC driver, AND they disable the automatic driver updates function so you have to download shit onto a USB from another computer and do it manually.

t. Just had to reinstall win7

Good thing i have my win7 images from years ago burned on a dvd i guess

Also btw you can circumvent the disabled updates (i think they're disabled on default for all ryzen machines, even on the aforementioned "old" images not from the kikerosoft download site) and re-enable them again, there's a script on github for that

You can't really beat a second hand GTX 970 on price/power/performance @ 1080p though. Just picked one up for £97. A GTX960(4GB) is like 30% slower for only 15-20% less cost, 980 is double the price for as little as 10% more. Cards around the 290/290X level at great price/performance but power hungry.

If you were still holding onto a 775.. my guess at your ideal build for 1080p would be a G4560 and a second hand GTX 970 or 290/290X. You should get 80fps+ on ultra in most recent games with that.

Recycle your PSU and hard drive (presuming that they're not complete trash or dead) and you could get that shit together for like $300-350. Memory can be the biggest money sink of cheap builds, so get 8GB(2 x 4GB) and see how you do.

Your choice of motherboard is a little imbalanced for the rest of your components. I'd have a look at the H110 or B250 chipset (roughly half the price).

Other than that and maybe having a large cheap storage drive as secondary, that's not a bad build.
>>
>>60652357

or B150 (seems to be pretty much the same thing as B250. H110 is cheaper but with a slightly slower bus speed. B150/B250 has the same bus speed as H270 and matches your CPU, but not quite as cheap.

I'd personally go for something like https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B150M-PRO-VDH.html

Those 4 DIMM slots will probably come in handy if you want to slip in two more 4GB modules later on.

>>
>>60653076

The GTX570 is a very old graphics card (nearly 7 years old). My guess is that the CPU is an i7-3770 (5 years old), which is decent, being a 4/8 with strong IPC for its age, but you'd probably end up replacing that graphics card before long.

How is $529 $300 cheaper than your build though? Unless that copy of windows 7 is literally $300.

If you're cool with buying second hand stuff you may as well get a GTX 970 off eBay over a GTX 1050 for the same price.

A GTX970 is almost double the performance of a 1050;

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GeForce_GTX_1050_Ti_KalmX/30.html
>>
>>60653076

New or second hand you're rolling the dice with any hardware really. I've had graphics cards, motherboards and processors that have been rock solid for over a decade, and some that died in months. The only real difference is warranty.
>>
I'm planning on upgrading my FX 8350/GTX 680 come this August/September. For the most part I have my mind set on getting a GTX 1080/Ti (unless big Vega is able to compete at a lower price) but I'm stuck on which CPU to go for. I'm stuck between the 1700 and 7700K:
1700: Good for multipurpose/applications I want to use it for, not just gaming (Streaming, other content creation)
7700k: I want to maxmize FPS at 1080p/1440p but I'm worried about the potential for a faulty 90c chip. Also intel is scummy
I could use my current PC as a streaming PC but I don't want to spend more money on a new case, cooler, and recording hardware

Going to try and pick up a 1440p/165hz monitor so I guess that puts less emphasis on the CPU for pure gaming performance. Anyone here have any experience streaming on the 1700 or 7700k?

Hello /pcbg/, I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I need to buy some storage right now and unfortunately it has to be bought locally from limited selections with a limited budget, though I will be able to upgrade very soon. I'm dualbooting Linux and Windows, with Windows used for mostly gaems, some light graphics work and sound sequencing in FL and OpenMPT, and Linux used for general web browsing, though I might begin to use trackers when I get used to Linux. Which would be the better course for me?

>One 250GB 850 EVO/275GB Crucial MX300 partitioned into half or 70:30 + 1TB HDD. In the next few weeks I could get another SSD and wipe the Linux partition on the 850 EVO.
>Two 120GB OCZ Trion 150 + 1TB HDD.
>One 250GB 850 EVO/275 GB MX300 for Windows + 120GB Trion 150 for Linux. Would need to buy a 1TB HDD in the next few weeks.
>Bonus option: one 500 GB 850 EVO/MX300 partitioned. Would need a 1TB HHD and a smaller SSD later for Linux, leaving Windows in charge of the huge drive (which might be overkill).
Sorry for being overly specific, the circumstances currently don't allow me much wiggle. Oh, and is there actually a significant problem with SSDs being partitioned into different file systems (NTFS/ext4) or did I get memed? Partly the reason I wanted different drives for each system was because of that, along with allowing each system as much space as possible.
>>
>>60657788
If you know that you could be happy with a 120GB SSD for Linux, just go with the third option: small SSD for Linux, bigger for Win (games), buy the HDD soon.

Hi there

My computer died completely (power spike due to lightning strike)
My cousin has handed me over his other computer which he doesn't use anywhere because it's a breeding place for virusses as he says.
(It has all kinds of malware, keyloggers and fuck knows what else on it)

Now, I appreciate the favor he did me by handing me over this computer (it's pretty decent, GTX660 and FX8320, 8GB of ram) but I would like to know how I will go about getting this to be a safe and good functioning machine again, as if it were fresh from the factory.

I read about flashing and updating the bios which would take care of potential threats that moved to the bios, a fresh install of Windows (he used a pirated and activated with some shady crack, version of W7. I will use my bought legit Windows 10 version on this machine)

How would I go best to cleanse this machine?
I will be buying an SSD with spare money I have left over to replace the 2 HDD's, but I'm not sure whether or not I should replace any other parts like Motherboard and when not, when do I flash / update the bios?
This is the only PC I have, it would be pretty useless doing it right now with all the virusses on right? Perhaps better when I installed Windows 10? Or would that infect the Windows 10 right away so that I have to install W10, then update / flash bios, and then reinstall W10?

Help would be much appreciated, looking forward to replies

Only downside so far has been that it only has 2 chassis fan headers, and it's an odd 95% ATX board. The board is short on the side opposite the IO, so it doesn't use all standoffs, it only has 6 mounting points. This hasn't caused any issues, it's just a bit odd that way.

If the cooler was installed a long time ago, you might need to refresh the thermal paste. Clean out the radiator, make sure the fan is spinning properly. If you OC'd the CPU, reduce voltage/OC. You're probably pushing it too hard. If none of the above, you probably have a cooler that's too weak

Any tips or suggestions?

Threadripper sounds like it would be perfect for you (though we don't know cost yet).
>>
I can buy the ryzen 1600 cheaper for ~269aud (down from 299aud). Or the 1600x for 305aud(down from 345aud)

Which one would be worth? Essentially I could get the 1600x at the price for a 1600

And is a b350 recommend or the x370
>>
Looking to build a PC for around $800 can someone recommend a build?
>>
>>60662011

If you won't/cannot into overclocking thw 1600x makes sense, otherwise 1600 all day. Same applies to ryzen 7 - the only chip worth buying unless you absolutely HAVE to get over 4ghz is the 1700.
>>
>>60662072
For gaming, mainly current gen games at 1080p 60fps
>>
>>60661257
Any would be fine. I'd probably get the one with the best customer support in your country

>>60662011
Either, just keep in mind you'll need a cooler either way. I'd get the 1600

Pretty much as good as it gets, but bump up the PSU wattage a little
You could also drop to 8GB of RAM with no problem. Just make sure you choose a mobo with two free RAM expansion slots
>>
>>60664107
I'm new to building PCs, what do you mean by bump up the PSU wattage?

And is 8GB of RAM good for most games?
>>
>>60664139
8GB is good for all games. 16GB if you want other stuff open in the background or multiple instances of games.

550W is better because you can use a 300W gfx card if you want to + an OC'd CPU

Poorfag here, is there any reson (besides power consumption and SATA II) to not go with a single dual westmere Xeonbuild over a new i3/pentium build?
It seems that moar cores is a good thing now, so the lower single thread performance of the Xeon shouldnt be an issue right?

Lightish gaming, the newest game i own is Fallout 4 and the most CPU intensive is probably BeamNG. Im planning on a 750 TI or similar cheap used card for graphics.
>>
>>60667948
Where do you live? I have a 290x which I am willing to sell for 50 bucks cause I just upgraded.

Anyway, majority of the games currently still use single thread. In the future, more and more games will be CPU intensive but currently only a few games do and they are pretty "next-gen" like Wildlands.

don't trust any dumb fuck that says something like this. what a faggot. he also unironically bought an nvme drive.

Honestly, the sum of its parts is greater than the price, but buying used is always a gamble.

Eh, barely. Stuff like liquid cooling is expensive and not worth it.

>>60667974
>Anyway, majority of the games currently still use single thread
Definitely not true, although single core performance is still really important.
>>
>>60668037
Majority of the game have high usage on single thread while all the other threads sit at around 15-20%. The only game I know that has heavy CPU multiple thread usage is Wildlands, PUBG and ARMA.

Honestly, i rarely game and anything i have currently installed is being played on a laptop with an i5-5200u and intel graphics. An X5650/X5660 doesnt have that bad of a single thread score compared to the laptop i5 according to passmark (about 200 lower). However, benchmarks arent always the whole story so i thought i would ask here.
I'm probably going to choose which way i go later, I do have a few amazon gift-bux anyways.

Rate my chance to fit Scythe fuma 1000 cpu cooler here.
If I would have to guess,0%
There is already no space between ram and graphic[it can be any height tho]

Rx580 pulse is on the way[problems with restock due to miner demand]

I would love to upgrade my ram but it supports only 1sided,and it was pretty impossible to find any. So I will just wait and upgrade to ryzen+ or intel[depending on price]

So I really want to overclock but it is already too hot with stock cooler.
>>
>>60669708
Sapphire is the ASUS in terms of "reputation" for AMD. People will pay extra for a card branded Sapphire. For what its worth, my 290x tri-x was a fucking beast.
>>

I will just add that sapphire has really good prices for europe
Sapphite 8gb 580rx pulse is the cheapest you can get in middle europe [250$] 21% from that is tax.

Is it easy to overclock DDR4 RAM?
>>
>>60670016
Yes very easy but you need motherboard that supports that.
Generally you can add +300 to any DDR4 ram without stability issues, exceptation are rams already overclocked to around 4000 out of the box.

BUT BUT,to reach high numbers is not always best thing, timing are more important
CL6 2000 ram will beat cl14 3000ram any day.

>>
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rkyKVY

Here in the US. Finally have some extra money from tax refund to build myself a new computer after being stuck with a gaming laptop from 2010. Oh how naïve I was.
Not really interested in most of the AAA games, save for Overwatch. I'm content with 1080p at 60 fps for now. I'd like to be able to do more than just gaming on it, hence why I'm going with the ryzen instead of the pentium.
I thought I'd be able to use my windows key for this computer, but it turns out to be OEM, so I can't.
Wanted to try and keep it around $700, but now it looks like it'll have to be $800.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
>>
>>60670307
If you must use windows, get a 7 key off ebay and try to upgrade it. I think the upgrade is still available for "assistive technology" https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows

Otherwise, just get a 10 OEM key off Kinguin. Also

700 dollars for a gpu is never wroth it, Nvidia gpu's don't last more than 3 years at this point (my 780 literally fried itself the other day non-oc'd with barely 2 years of solid use) max you should spend in 400 on a part with a half life like an Nvidia gpu
>>

because it was a projector you fucking retard. No projectors have freesync, which is what causes tearing.

combine that with how fast gpus are becoming obsolete compared to cpus right now it makes sense to get the mid range gpu every few years instead if thats the upgrade path you want

2133 RAM is fine. RAM will probably the be the last bottleneck you hit anyway.

I'm going to be getting into recording and stuff for my tube channel but processing the video takes forever. I figure I'll get at least 2400 DDR4. I've already got two 480GB SSDs that I'm looking at, so the only other thing I could think of is getting a processor a bit better at the whole processing dealio.

I know a lot of the reviews are showing the 1800x smoking the 7700k in multicore processing but 7700k still has it's advantage in the single core arena. I'm a bit torn at this point and yeah, I'm on a budget for the upgrade. Looking to keep it under $700

All brands are within 5% difference out of the box for the same card. OC'd it is literally up to the silicon gods how well your card does. When you pick a brand you are picking for the cooler (how loud the fans are, aesthetics etc) or branding (customer service, warranty).

Not exactly. Exceeding the monitor/projector's refresh rate causes tearing, which isn't helped by freesync at all. If you have freesync enabled (vsync must be off for freesync to be on) on a 60Hz monitor and your framerate exceeds 60FPS, you still get screen tearing.

I'm planning on updating my PC for better performance while playing.

I currently have a GTX 660 and AMD FX-4300. Let's say I have 200-300€ to upgrade. Which is more critical to upgrade for better performance while gaming? Also I don't want to get a new motherboard so that limits the CPU options to the same socket.
>>
>>60673709
The two best CPUs from the FX line are the 6350 and 8350. I'd buy used on your budget.

You could run anything from a GTX1050 / RX560 to GTX1060 6GB / RX570 with those CPUs. I have an FX 6350 + RX470.

Local pricing will obviously determine what you can buy on your budget, but I'd try for FX 8350 + RX 570 4GB.
>>
>>60673709
>Which is more critical to upgrade for better performance while gaming?
Basically you want your CPU and gfx card to be balanced. In your case, both need an upgrade. Generally the gfx card will become outdated sooner.
