This thread is for the discussion of NyaaPantsu (nyaa.pantsu.cat), a free (FOSS) torrent indexer.
The aim of this project is to write a fully featured nyaa.se replacement in golang that anyone will be able to deploy locally or remotely.

FAQ
>https://pastebin.com/Gq9MrJN5 (embed)

>Why is Pantsu down/error 502?
Most likely because the team is deploying changes. Wait for a bit and refresh the page. It should be mostly stable now.

I think PantsuDev talked about adding more user-oriented features like seasonal schedules and listing of the shows, aiming to do a better shana project.
>>
>>60582793
Horriblesubs has a schedule because they have a bot that automatically rips directly from cruchy, who has their own schedule for their streaming anime.
Both nyaa sites have uploads that depend on users and there's no schedule for those. So you can't really expect a schedule for it.
>>
>>60583281
You can either do something like >>60582904
or (more complicated) give a warning when seasonal shows are nearing 7 full days from the last uploaded episode.

>>

>>
>>60583494
Nah that's retarded, better do your own schedule by observation and approximation. The releases becomes more stable a few weeks in but even prosubs get irregularities, just have to stick with japanese airing time adding a few hours and have intel on the fansubs website.

for long names might be a good idea to put a length limit for text displayed in a cell, what do /nrg/ think?
>>
>>60588057
Agree on the magnet icon dislike, looks especially jarring on tomorrow.
Theme defaults back when searching or changing order.
Why is the list narrower than before?
Search box size and font size seem a little small to me.
Search button becomes invisible on tomorrow.
>>
>>60588345

>>60588389
I argued with another anon earlier today about this. Seems opinions are mixed; I like the idea of limiting the length, and using hover tooltips to show the full name; others are vehemently against it, and want the full name to always be displayed.
>>
>>60588421
or removing the text-overflow:ellipsis on hover

I think it depends on how curation is. If it's cut and dry naming schemes it's probably no biggie but nobody wants the whole
>XxXxX.DvDRIP.LulZ.2017
>>
>>60588421
It wouldn't be a problem if the padding between rows wasn't so condensed. Then it would be less noticeable when something is two or three lines long. It only looks bad when everything is condensed to one line and you have inconsistent row heights.

The pagination is awkward to use for the same reason. The buttons aren't consistent widths. E.g. The "1" button is thinner than the "10" button. Which makes them crammed together and look janky.
>>
>>60588421
I think it should be limited. It just looks so bad to have all those different sized blocks of text taking up the whole screen.
>>
>>60588421
I'd be fine with that, though maybe only put ellipses if the name would exceed two lines, not one.
>>
>>60588471
I agree. Others seem to think that having the ellipses and tooltips is what looks bad. Maybe there's a subjective component to this. Hmm, maybe this can be an option somewhere?

Disregarding the logo, both upload and rss icons look out of place in this combination. Upload icon because the color doesn't fit the palette and rss because of the boxed in design or whatever it's called while other icons cut out shapes. At least the current are all uniform.

Now you don't really want to download TV raws in this year and age, web rips have far better video quality because h264. Even 2-pass CR is decent if we're not talking about action shows.

You should ask 2ch what they mean when they say both pantsu and si lack "general comics".

Tell them to give examples, like do they just meanraw manga or do they mean light novels as well since Nyaa never bothered to make a Manga/Comic only category, only Literature Category so it is hard to know exactly what they find lacking.

And tell them that pantsu and si don't have control over raw literature uploaders or "general comic" uploaders.

It is up to the Japanese/2ch to tell their favorite uploaders to upload stuff to nyaa alternatives like pantsu.
>>
>>60589089

>>
>>60590125
This is stupid. The site is designed to be opened to everyone. This will never happen, no matter what torrent client they're using.
>>
>>60589619
That's just marketing superlatives that don't add information. LN and porn titles are essentially summaries. And considering that the plot is not very complicated they can be easily summarized within 20 words. Plus they're using moonrunes, so it's all the more compact for them, it just gets bloated when you translate it.
>>
>>60590157
utorrent devs
>added spyware to their clients
>intentionally added a bitcoin miner to their clients

utorrent is a security risk to the users and their peers
>>
>>60590149
Pantsu already lost, so why not?
>>
>>60590125
No reason to but they should use something that isn't shit.
Legit no reason to use utorrent or vuze or whatever other crap ones are out there.
>>
>>60590125
This is meaningless. On private trackers it's meaningful, but on public trackers you're insecure by design because anyone can access it.
>>
>>60590204
They work.
>>
>>60590125
>>60590144
There's no reason for that on a public tracker and will quickly kill the site when there's already such close competition

We can do it on Oppaitime because we're a private tracker and can actually control which peers enter the swarm. If you try to do it with nyaa, utorrent users will still get into the swarm via dht so you aren't protecting your other users from jack shit. The only thing you'll accomplish is getting utorrent display a tracker error (but not stop the download) which will encourage people to move to another site without accomplishing anything.

You could have the tracker send an informative warning ("your client is bad, consider switching") when the tracker detects a utorrent user. That would maybe be nice.
>>
>>60590213
So does every FOSS client and the FOSS ones don't have ads or bitcoin miners in them AND they aren't years out of date and probably full of security holes.

Please avoid using the term open or open source as a substitute for free software. Those terms refer to a different position based on different values. Free software is a political movement; open source is a development model. Image goes out of the little chart, quite ugly... Also the torrent button does that weird thing with overly long translations. Maybe add a limit to the adjustment, so the long text simply stops being shown?

I agree. I switched from utorrent 2.2.1 and hardly got any upload on my private tracker torrents. I tried Deluge a while ago and it's much better at connecting to peers.

>>
>>60591415

>>

>>60588496
What possesses a JAV director to do shit like that? Why are the titles a synopsis of the whole thing? I'm puzzled
>>
>>60591462
I wasn't aware a torrent client needs to do anything more than download and upload plus figure out how magnets work. Doesn't sound like there's much room for features?
>>
>>60589195
Could also be rip as in ripping off, the domain is specifically made for dead people though
>>
>>60591456
I was talking about utorrent. Old utorrent is obsolete and slow, new utorrent is adware infested.
>>
>utorrent
That shit is bloated adware. Last time I used it, it had video ads playing on the right side of the UI.
>>
>>60591471
You can't label stuff. It doesn't have an RSS reader so no auto-download built in.
I mean, I guess it does have a folder it checks so you could use something like flexget...
Still there are a lot of less important features it doesn't have.

Doesn't /need/ them but It's not the kind of client I want.

Stuff like that happens all of the time with any client. Especially with single seeder torrents. People can't connect, there are threads on just about every private tracker where people have to download the torrent and seed it to the other person. They have hundreds of pages of posts.

Yes, but it shouldn't happen to one IP where you can connect with one client and not with another. They don't take different hops. Connecting with one client and not another is a problem with the client.

Even if you tell me that.. I was in the tech support of a private tracker once and I also used to run my own torrent site for a couple years, but I don't expect underages like you to understand.
Many people reported the same issue with your beloved qUttershit meme for the past few years and only random underages from /g/ like you keep saying it's not shit, because they don't know better, they probably come from some retarded tracker like BBT where qUttershit is the only torrent client they were allowed to use and they feel 1337 experts now, the irony.

You should learn the difference between a comment and an argument.

>Noooooooo! Ad hominem! You have to prooooooove that it's two!

>>60591832
what tracker did you run
>>
>>60592147
Rather than a tracker, it was more similar to torrage and torrentz, archive and search engine, if you mean the site I used to run.
About the private tracker where I was mod instead, it was a small one, it was more like a forum rather than tracker (reputation-based system, not ratio), it doesn't exist anymore (it got DMCA'd), I left because of autistic infighting and I don't want to associate myself with them ever again anyway.
