so is it wise to buy a mobo with all usb 3.0 sockets or do i need 2.0 too?
Nope, it's backwards compatible. Why the fuck didn't you post this in the stupid questions thread? Neck yourself.

sorry, didnt know there was such a thing.
Don't need USB 3.0 for mice and keyboards, no need to spend extra for it

Unless youre installing Windows 7
It will not read usb 3.0 slots during install so you MUST have a ps2 mouse/keyb for that. I got fucked over so I had to install win 10 instead since my mobo had no usb 2.0 slots

all motherboards have usb 2.0 headers so you can buy chinkshit usb sockets and plug them in.

USB 3 has been out for like 8 years now and you don't know it's backwards compatible. WTF
op here, im asking cause a friend of mine said his 2.0 device didnt work on 3.0.

If you want to install win7 via pendrive / zip disquiette, then unless you have modified installer, it doesn't work.
One trick is to use win10 installer and just switch .ESD files.

You know that you can change the iso for Windows and load usb 3.0 drivers manually if you have another computer.
i havent had much luck trying to boot from usb 3 ports

It isn't truly backwards compatible. I have a few devices, namely keyboards, that just do not work on USB3.0 and 3.1 ports. No idea why.

either the USB connector is not fully compliant, or your USB3 controller (which is usually separate from the 2.0 controller) has no driver installed - in which case, probably no USB device would work on those ports
