My dumb ass managed to break my phone today. First time ever breaking a mobile device. Was my tried and true LG V10. I have a much lower spec LG phone for backup, but was wondering how long I should use it. With Samsung Note 8 launch being talked about for August or September, should I just wait? Do you guys think the note 8 is some worth waiting for? Or should I just get the V20?

Pic related. My reaction when I saw my V10 turn off for the final time, never to greet me with it's boot up splash screens ever again.

Question. How important are screen protectors? I've had this thing all of four days now and one of my doofus coworkers was on my ass today telling me I NEED to have one.

I read some will alter the touch-screen's performance, so is it worth having one and what kind?
>>
>>60540705
I'd say pretty important. Screen protectors have saved a few of my phones when I dropped them, lay them on their screens, push my phones into my pocket against a pocket knife, or just other general daily things I no longer have to worry about.

As far as I've experienced. Only one device in my entire lifetime was really noticeably different with a screen protector so generally I don't think they really change much in terms of performance.
>>
>>60540705
I would. I got a glass screen protector for my V10 and the difference between the actual screen and the protector is night and day. You really don't realize just how much stuff your hand grinds into the screen. Plus they're like $5. Really no reason not to. If you hate it, take it off and you're out some pocket change.

The most common complaint I think is the screen not being so bright. Seems to fully deliver on every other front, as far as being an Android phone with a physical keyboard and Blackberry features. Heya,

Question here : I'd like to buy a smartphone in which I could install a botnet free android distro (I don't know shit about it), supporting U900/2100 L800/1800/2600, with a good camera and allowing to store apps data in SD card.

I bought a Meizu M3S back in the days I didn't know shit and now I'm fucked cause it took me month to install the international version of it and now that crap doesn't even allow to copy apps data on SD card, and of course my hard drive is small.

Any ideas, plz? Am I asking for something that exist? Do you have any links on how to install a botnet free distro on a smartphone btw?

Thanks in advance.

Can most unencrypted Android devices be easily compromised by just flashing TWRP, which gives you full access to the file system? I know many devices require bootloader unlock to do any tinkering with them but e.g. TWRP can just be flashed on an old GS4 with Odin, right? There's no other security measure? I'm asking because I'm looking for an old used flagship phone, all I need is WhatsCancer and navigation but encrypting those old non-64bit/AES-enabled devices is not viable since performance tanks massively but I also can't risk getting my dickpics easily exposed.

Sony Mobile Communications has commented at this years Investors Day their plans for FY2017 and beyond (https://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/calendar/presen/irday/irday2017/MC_E.pdf). The most important points for the inmediate future are:

>Discontinuation of a mid-price range; no more "Premium Standard" phones (X, X Compact), focus on "Flagship" ones.
>Two new "Flagships" devices for this year, probably to be announced around IFA.
>One of those devices at the same price range as XZs (XZ Compact?), the other slightly cheaper but still more expensive than the X.

Coming from a Moto e 2nd gen, and the build quality is like night and day, my only complaint is it's a bit too light, but I ordered a case, and a glass screen protector so it should give it a bit more girth, and heft.

Also despite having huge gorilla hands I have to get used to the much larger screen, good thing it has the one handed use feature.

Hi /spg/, I've never had a smartphone and I'm thinking about getting one. I don't like big screens (I'm going to keep in my jeans' pocket all the time), I don't care about audio quality, I don't think I'm going to play games on it, I want a decent camera and a reasonable battery life, I don't care about brands, I'm Ok with buying Chinese stuff online, but I'd like good assembly/material quality. The edge features are a gimmick and it's harder to find screen protectors and cases that fit for it. I've also heard just holding the phone can cause accidental touches. Have phones reached the point where an upgrade from a Galaxy S4(1080p/microSD/replaceable battery/CPU ~= to moto g4) to a modern flagship(s8, lg, whatever) will result in a significantly improved user experience?

My primary use for my phone is music(dac/usb player pro) on the go, web browsing, clover, and torrenting. I don't actually have a cell phone plan because I don't need to call or text so that doesn't matter.

>>
>>60548960
Honestly really good. I had a rn3p with 4000ma before and I don't feel like it is much worse. I still get about two days without charging. Stock room has really good battery life, especially considering this phone has a sd820 and 2k screen. Also qc3.0 charges the phone super fast, so it's even less of an issue.
>>
>>60547310
Because phablets have taken over.

We had ~4" phones and 10" tablets.
Then phones grew while tablets shrunk a bit, and we got 5" phones and 7" tablets.
The 7" tablets were generally more popular than their bigger brethren
Well, phones kept on growing. 5.5", then 6", and so on.
Now here we are, 7" tablets don't exist anymore. They're just phablets sold as phones.
There are still some larger tablets around, but most of the market has been swallowed by phablets since the smaller tablet sizes were more popular from the beginning.

That said, I just got a Galaxy Tab S3 today. Liking it quite a bit so far, though the glass back is fucking aids. Fuck whoever thought that was a good design decision.
>>
Are people unironically using screen protectors ITT?
>>
>>60549194
Never used one personally.
Also never broke any screens.
>>
>>60549194
I am amazed how many people get sold on this. One of the roles in my job is administrator of all phones that are used for company business. 9 times out of 10 these users are using a self purchased screen protector.
>>
>>60549179
i like the galaxy tab s3 but it's price is ridiculous especially considering the old chip in it
>>
>>60549218
But why? If you're not going to re-sell, what's the FUCKING point? You're literally making your usage experience worse and get nothing out of it.
>>
>>60549218
>Have case + TGSP on phone
>Accidentally scrape ceramic tweezers on glass while working, causing a noticeable groove
>Later drop phone on thinly carpeted floor from about two feet up
>Despite the cushioning from the case and floor, the glass cracks all the way across along where the scratch was

$5 for a screen protector sounds pretty good to me.
>>
>>60549287
Because they are dumbasses who do literally no testing or research of their devices before purchase.... Most of these people are entirely out of touch with the current "trends" in technology and know not the difference between and iPhone and a V20.
>>
>>60549307
Yeah, that would have totally helped.
>>
I never used a screen protector on any of my gorilla glass phones and even though I often keep them in the same pocket as my keychain, I never had a single scratch on them.
>>
>>60549318
It did. Just peeled off the broken screen protector and put on a new one. Phone's screen remains pristine.

Considering I had that tempered glass for nearly a year before it broke, $5 is a good deal.
>>
>>60549371
A good deal for something that broke without any benefit.
Don't give me that "But muh screen would have cracked otherwise", we all know that's fucking stupid.
>>
>>60549233
>but it's price is ridiculous
Yep. Yes it is. Samsung's prices are generally just fucking stupid.

But it's also the only nice Android tablet and just recently released to a market that moves much slower than the phone market does, so I doubt we'll be seeing a more powerful SoC in an Android tablet for a while unless Nvidia has something new in the works already.
The Snapdragon 820 is plenty fast despite being last generation, though. Might not push as high numbers in benchmarks as the latest and greatest flagship phones, but my Tab S3 isn't suffering from performance issues either.

Looking for a new phone. Been using an iPhone since release. Had an iPhone 6, it broke.

Things I care about:
battery life; not a deal-breaker.
reverse camera frame rate minimum 60fps
better screen than iphone 6

All I use my phone for is browsing the internet, tracking calories, videos and camera. No games.

I have no idea how much I need to spend to get a better experience than my iPhone, but I suspect based on the limited amount of things I do with it the Xiami note 4 might be sufficient.

I am looking to spend ~300.

I need a device that's not actually going to be used as a phone and I'm hitting a wall here, I figured someone here would have an idea.

I need something that has decent specs to run miscellaneous games and some gameboy emulators, isn't too ridiculously expensive and has expandable storage so I can offline spotify/netflix to it. Ideally decent rom support with audio patches would be neato but not really necessary.

I mainly use a little cheapo android phone but it can't handle netflix and it struggles with spotify and youtube.

Before someone asks why I'm not just using my phone, I find that my battery life just doesn't handle it and I'm on public transport for about six hours a day away from a power source so having a little entertainment device would be nice and keep my work and procrastination separate.

Your palm and fingertips will do unwanted inputs when you use it singlehandedly. Curved screens are the worst gimmick today as they serve no purpose at all except making the side bezels go away.

You get tiny bezels at the price of
Harder to use and handle
More fragile to shock damage
Higher repair cost
Harder to repair
Screen distortion near the sides
Screen reflections at the edges.

Not worth it.
>>
>>60558152
Does this apply to the s8 as well? I was thinking s8 or g6
>>

Apple, followed by Google. Both receive timely updates and have longer support then most other manufactures. A OnePlus should last you a good long while due to community custom ROM support.
>>
Picked up a ZTE Max XL because Virgin mobile gave me a $100 coupon code for a new phone since they're killing the wal-mart plan they had and gave existing customers coupons for new phones (they can keep their old phone though, I just wanted a new phone to dick around with).

It's not too bad, it's better than I thought it would be for a budget phone. Camera isn't the worst thing ever. The version I bought doesn't seem to have much bloatware but the amount of stuff on it eats up 8GB out of the 16GB internal on stock.

My main issue that there's no root available it seems, tried several solutions, none worked. Think I'll keep my old phone for now but I'll switch once a root comes out for this.

Just got my LG G4 from Hong Kong. 157 euros, new. Camera is amazing. According to the serial number this one was made in 2017. Please no bootloop!
>>
>>60540705

I have never used a case or screen protector for any of my phones and I have literally never had any issues.

Just don't be retarded. Easy as that.

>>
Should I get an LG K20? My ZTE ZMax Pro's creen is all cracked/shattered and fucked and I'm poor as shit
>>
>>60567133

Hope you like being denied root, ZTE literally cucks the fuck out of its devices and users like that. The ZTE ZMax Pro still has no root method and All Things Root are the only ones/only place that have been going in circles around it for months on end, not even XDA is backing root support for the ZTE ZMax Pro, I know because I have one
>>
>>60566036

other than the terrible regional pricing (600gbp is the equivalent of 777usd while the price here is 600usd) yeah.

Where are you at? Report in.
>>
>/spg/ is ok with phones like the op3t that are 4 security updates behind

do you have to buy a nexus or pixel just to get critical updates when they're released? do custom roms like lineageOS implement updates faster than phone manufacturers?
>>
>>60567521

The only Samsung product I have is a refurbished Galaxy Tab E 9.6 I ordered and picked up through Walmart for $130 total. I'm still anticipating Nougat for it, despite that Tab A gets/has more love and support going for it, it's even getting its Nougat OTA update and has Lineage and root support, unlike Tab E, which has few custom ROMs for it, not even an official LineageOS ROM for it. It fucking sucks ass so fucking hard
>>
>>60567622
Yes and yes.
>>
>>60567622

Why are you so gosh darn concerned over very few and little security updates? Cripes, dude

FWIW I rooted my N817 with KingoRoot for Android _AND_ replaced it with SuperSU. There's a tutorial involving ADB and KingoRoot for PC but I didn't want that shit on my PC. Actually I may have run "adb reboot disemmcwp" before trying KingoRoot for Android but I'm not sure if that would have made a difference.

you wont get a camera close to the iphone one with $300. best camera phones are the pixel g6 and s8

Best App launcher for Android? Would you say it's necessary with the P2?

I've had the P2 for about 2 weeks now and I'm loving it. The thing genuinely lasts 2 to almost 3 days of moderate use - so for me that means SNES emulation, shitposting, internet browsing and general everyday app use. So far I've had no problems with it whatsoever.

Looking for a cheap chink phone.
Priority: the camera must be good enough for taking pictures of text.
Preferably not too big.
Please advice

finding them around 200€, anything cheaper?
100-150 would be a nice price range. Or are there no good cameras on phones in that range?

What are some phones that work on Verizon for under $250?

I had a Moto G4 Plus and it started randomly shutting down and randomly made the battery go to 0% suddenly.

>>
Should I buy a pixel now or wait for the Pixel 2?
>>
>>60571798
imo the current pixel is kinda overpriced, what will the 2 be like presumably?
>>
>>60571951
The Pixel was pretty well received even though it was really rushed. It's reasonable to expect that the design will be improved and given things like water resistance and vastly reduced bezels.
>>
>>60572160
for me the downsides are few, mainly the lack of micro sd slot, but the price is hard to justify

the current pixels are hardly going to get blown away by the next gen as i see it, since there is little room for improvements
>>
>>60572492
The biggest complaints were about the overall design of the phone and the fact that they're always out of stock. Everything else was pretty solid.

Does DNS66 really block most in-app ads?
The developer said himself that it was mostly for browser ads.
>>
I have all my app on my sd card to save room on internal and i got a new phone, is there a way to transfer the app data from the sd card or make it so the new phone recognizes it?
Transferred from a g4 to a g6. I cant use the lg backup app otherwise i wouldnt have this problem
>>
y cant android a2dp sink

Is the moto g4 really plagued with overheating issues or is that just a meme?
>>
So, S8 or G6?
