>>
>>60517370
yes the bonus points formula is there, but It still takes a long time for me to get my seeding size larger for more upload. I know it gets higher over time, I just need to wait longer. PTP bonus points accrue much faster
>>
>>60517394
PTP is way more generous yes

HDB is honestly a pain to use compared to the newer trackers, what do you use it for ?
>>
>>60517419
I honestly just use it when I have upload available to spend there on a film. I download everything from PTP, but I want to start migrating to lesser used sites in case PTP ever gets shutdown. And having a high bp rate on hdb wil make it more comfy if that ever happens.
>>
>>60517455
Yeah it seems like sites keep going down left and right

if you want some tru buffer you should grab the recommended torrents as they get updated

Have you ever bought shit to fill a bounty on trackers?

Back on what.cd, I bought a soundtrack for a film I watched a decade ago directly from the label and got ~30 GB for filling with a perfect FLAC.

Currently considering buying a couple of shitty children's movies worth maybe 3 bucks each for 2TB of upload apiece on PTP. Though then again, I probably don't need that buffer as I could just rely on bonus points.

Should I:
try to deal with DDL
or get on a private tracker (the fucking thugs probably don't go on private trackers to look for victim)
or pay for some sort of service to make public torrents safe again, VPN or whatever kind of service would be cheapest

>>
>>60519253
Depending on how fast your connection is I'd go VPN or seedbox, and work you way into 1 or 2 top generals. If you're not able to find a lot of the shit you want there, pick up the relevant niche trackers. PTs are about availability much more than safety.

I'd just like to interject for one moment. What you're calling Linux, is in actuality, GNU/Linux, or as I have of late taken to calling it, GNU + Linux. Linux is not an OS on its own, but actually another free component of a fully working GNU setup made proper by the GNU core libraries, shell tools and essential setup components completing a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Quite a few computer users use a subspecies of the GNU setup routinely, without knowing it. Through a strange series of situations, the edition of GNU that is widely utilized now is often called "Linux", and many of the users are not aware that it is practically the GNU setup, created by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and they are using it, but it is but a part of the setup they use. Linux is the kernel: the part of the setup that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an OS, but cannot work on its own; it can only function in the environment of a complete OS. Linux is normally utilized in combination with the GNU OS: the whole setup is practically GNU with Linux added on, or GNU/Linux. Every one of the "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I don't know whether that's true or not. But seriously, this bashing on tracker staff needs to stop. It takes a huge amount of time, effort and energy to set up and run a tracker. Working on one is constant fucking drain, its literally having a second job usually at least 20 hours a week, months and years on end.

The job is thankless, and endless, and all you get is shit piled on you at every turn. It wears you down, and pretty much noone else wants to step up to help relieve the pressure, but the site is something you love so you keep up.

Are staff sometimes rude? Yes. Do staff sometimes take their frustrations out on people who don't deserve it? Yes. But staffing a tracker is a combination of a janitor and the lowest retail clerk in the most frustrating store ever and tech support for a group of incompetent monkeys all running different systems. And they're doing it for love, and producing something that you all are more than happy to take advantage of, and this constant bashing on staff needs to STOP.

Unless you're staff somewhere, you can just shut up.

There is no reason to disable DHT in your client. The client will automatically disable it for private torrents because they have the flag set, which the tracker sets on all torrents when they're uploaded even if the uploader forgot to set it.

hey lads, thoughts on viability of 6TB/8TB drives for a NAS?

based on the latest backblaze report, the seagate 6 & 8 TB models look like they are working pretty damn well -- fail rates really in the same ballpark as smaller HGST drives.

any reason to be skeptical? or should i pick up a few?

I just signed up for TL lads, how do I up my ratio? Doesn't seem to be freeleech for anything. Also kind of new to private trackers

Hmm I'm not entirely sure, there are other ways to do it though.

Sorry I don't remember specifics but about 3 years ago I had a script that would run, check if x was running, and if it wasn't it would launch it.

It was to keep my Gmod server up so I had it check every 5 minutes

You still need screen or tmux because rtorrent uses ncurses. See https://gist.github.com/djmattyg007/7714887 but the rtorrent package should already come with a working unit file

Thanks for this, this is perfect! I just checked and the default unit file uses screen. I can just replace the contents of it with the github one, and I should be good to go right?
>>
>>60528486
Yeah, assuming you have tmux installed, changing ExecStart and ExecStop should be enough.

I'm on TL with a 60/6 home connection. I auto download popular TV shows as they're added and usually reach about .8 ratio within a couple hours, and 1+ within a week. You only need to maintain .4, it's really not that hard. Power user is probably impossible without a seedbox but there aren't really any benefits to it.

depends on your downloading habits I guess

if you're patient and don't need new stuff every day, you can manage with whatever

I've managed ok with a 20/2 connection, but the only bonus point-less tracker I could use was what.cd (largely 'cause music isn't very heavy on file size)

if there are bonus points, only patience is needed
